The last time someone professed to be a legend he had an dog, lived alone, talked to mannequins and was surrounded by zombies. ??.

{Ed001's Note - David Batty?}

Agree0 Disagree0

And he listened to the musical legend that is Bob Marley.

Ed 001, Batty often goes under the radar for what he achieved for his club Leeds and England.
Never a glamorous player, just very hard working tiger like attitude on the pitch.
Wilkinson off loaded him to Kenny’s Blackburn only to replace him with Carlton Palmer, never really understood that decision?!
Apparently he didn’t like football, just a means to make a good living according to some people who knew him. No surprise he shunned the football world when he retired.
What he achieved with Strachan, MacAlliater and Gary Speed was nothing short of outstanding in my opinion.
Those 4 players for me were the last Leeds Utd legends.

100 Opti. Say what u like about Leeds players but batty the legend above all. And I mean all.
Played his heart out for Leeds.
Would have been one track pony if it weren’t for money grabbers.
Have to admit. My fav player ever I seen.
Not most skilful. But a true legend.
Even though he didn’t like watching football.
To have that dedication to a sport u just do is exceptional.

OP So Gary Kelly wasn't a LUFC legend?

19 Jan 2024 16:01:31
Would you not consider Radebe as one, OP?

19 Jan 2024 16:12:50
What a midfield that was. ?.

19 Jan 2024 16:50:22
Gary Kelly only player post Revie era so that's almost half a century to register over 500 appearances for Leeds. One club man, donated his testimonial proceeds to charity. Good player too. Omitting him from "legend" status egregious error.

It’s only my opinion, not expecting anyone else to agree.

Aus ; Batty a Leeds Legend above ALL?
What absloute tosh. not even top 15.

ToshAus.

Batty was one of my favourite players, but sadly his campaign to stop playing and his endeavours to persuade others from playing when we hit financial issues somewhat tarnished my view of him. When the club asked to defer wages in an attempt to get their finances in order, most players accepted, but Batty didn’t and refused to play.

For me that midfield quartet was the best I’ve ever seen at our club, it worked so well and for me was the main reason we won the title 91/ 92
It was a great team we had and all those players merit high praise it’s just for me Batty, Speed, MacAllister and Strachan were the most impressive and deserve in my opinion Legendary status.
The pinnacle for me in football is only about winning title and cup trophies, legendary status for individual players only comes within this realm in my opinion.

20 Jan 2024 07:03:53
OP You saying that quartet superior to Bremner Giles Lorimer and Eddie Gray?

20 Jan 2024 07:39:03
George I believe OP was born after the Revie era.

20 Jan 2024 08:59:52
What I’m saying George is that it’s my opinion, not yours or someone else’s.
I know you like to think I’m an OAP George but I’m only 59, I have seen the mighty Revie team at Elland rd as a 7 year old boy but forgive me if I didn’t notice I was watching the greatest midfield in Leeds Utd history.
I went to many matches during that period when Wilko took over so it was more relevant to me personally and I was in awe in what I saw.

I must say OP this season you're actually posting very nicely, making sense and good points. You're an obvious threat to snatching the crown ? of POTS from Brighty. I predict a close race between you and Bazadamus.
