Thought I would pop by to share the joy; what a night! Oddly for me, beforehand, this was the game I was least worried about over the last month. I have seen Sunderland in the flesh several times this season; recently at Derby and they were very fortunate against what is a dire Derby team.
Would have been content with a draw, but OMG, talk about getting an old man out of his seat! Still can't find the cat!
Did anyone catch the stat before the game started? We are 13 points ahead of where we were in our league winning season. Our points in that season would have us sitting 5th presently.
First time Farke really showed his emotion pitch side as well.
Oh the paradox of swapping unbridled joy of the EFL for the likely disappointment of the EPL, though I think we would be ok if we make it.
1.) 18 Feb 2025 11:54:09
Good to hear from you Ani! Great result, excellent resilience and endeavour in the second half, and great game management from the gaffer. Excellent, exciting result!
2.) 18 Feb 2025 11:58:23
Interesting post Ani and good also to see you regularly in Leeds Live matchday chat.
Yep the Leeds Bielsa Champo title season, from memory Leeds were a tad shaky in Jan and Feb.
But it was a King Pablo inspired last 10 matches when Leeds won 9 of them that saw Leeds race away to Championes finish line on a high 93 points ( 10 points clear of 2nd)
3.) 18 Feb 2025 16:33:21
A finish like that season will do nicely.
15 Dec 2024 19:29:53
Can’t help thinking we would have made a better fist of the EPL than Southampton.
1.) 15 Dec 2024 19:49:07
100% but we will be all the better for it next year!
2.) 15 Dec 2024 19:54:42
5 0 half time shamrock rockers would have made a better game of it I believe Mr Martin will be packing his bags and phoning for a taxi absolutely bloody awful performance if you can call it a performance.
3.) 15 Dec 2024 20:01:34
Rovers.
4.) 15 Dec 2024 20:05:35
Think Martin fancies Christmas off at home Oldbri! I think his wish may come true in the next 1-12 hours… Taxi.
5.) 15 Dec 2024 20:44:05
A few thought Martin had made some shrewd defender signings
as opposed to my prediction that Saints would concede a tsunami of goals this season ( 90 plus )
Defo weakest team .20th sure thing.
6.) 15 Dec 2024 22:34:21
It’s very clear that the three teams that were promoted last season are very far from being Premiership standard and it’s likely that we will be waving to them as they come back to where they belong.
7.) 15 Dec 2024 22:58:46
And Martin has gone, can’t say I’ll shed any tears.
8.) 15 Dec 2024 23:55:28
Bookies have Southampton as good as down
But following one of OP's notorious declarations above. its a given at least one of Ipswich or Leicester will stay up ( maybe both! ) ?.
9.) 16 Dec 2024 05:12:34
Think Leicester will survive.
Possibly wolves or palace and oh so please Everton.
10.) 16 Dec 2024 06:04:03
You say Everton every year Aus ? It might yet happen in 25
.2125.
11.) 16 Dec 2024 07:04:45
I think that will depend on Wolves Aus, the rumours are that Harry Potter might be asked to wave his magic wand at the Molineaux stadium, if so it’s hopefully goodbye cheating Leicester ?
I’m having a punt on Moyes going to Wolves, their fans won’t like it but I believe he’ll keep them up.
Potter to go to Hammers would make more sense for him I’d imagine. ?
12.) 16 Dec 2024 07:36:23
Wouldn’t that spell weak teams being relegated who were previously from a weak Championship.
Your declarations are worst on this forum Baz ?.
13.) 16 Dec 2024 08:28:24
If Everton do go they will have by far the best stadium in the championship next season:) ) ) ) ) )
14.) 16 Dec 2024 08:45:35
OP your follow up post makes no sense : either Leicester and / or Ipswich if they stay up is great kudos on their part.
15.) 16 Dec 2024 17:33:29
If Leicester stay up it would be an additional travesty, given they cheated to get there in the first place. If they come down, they will face a similar [though I suspect greater] treatment to Sheff U.
19 Oct 2024 06:16:04
Overall, I’m no fan of staggered games all over the weekend; I hate how TV has imposed itself on our game, but…. given that is the way it is, is they’re no better weekend, than getting your match done, with a great win on a Friday night? Knowing your points are sorted, and being anxiety free for the whole weekend.
Long live awesome victories on a Friday night!
1.) 19 Oct 2024 07:40:00
Spot on Ani just texted a mate saying the same thing!
Thought we might struggle with so many away this week but really happy with the performance last night!
Rothwell MOM for me but whole team played well!
So much for Farke doesn’t know what he’s doing ?.
2.) 19 Oct 2024 11:04:14
Very gratifyingly DF got a helluva lot right yesterday. one of his best matches as LUFC coach forsure
all the more UBER pleasing he did so against dem Sheffield rabble and especially against cabbage patch Chris Wilder.
3.) 19 Oct 2024 14:27:50
Baz Again no coincidence he has to play a more attack minded midfield. What we've been crying out for.
21 Sep 2024 21:55:41
Wow, this is a miserable place to be at times!
We're unbeaten away from home, haven't conceded a goal away from home and just beaten the team that always does a number on us when it matters.
A win is a win, which only a few weeks ago was far more important than the performance (it always is! ) .
Farke is pleased . Dorigo is pleased, and so am I.
1.) 21 Sep 2024 23:00:03
Thank the lord Ani that you are saying something positive. It's so depressing sometimes reading the same old cudda, wudda, shudda. We won, we didn't concede, we move on. I get the issues, final third not scoring with all the possession, but we have the messiah in MJ, he will save us. It doesn't matter who we have as a striker, we are are what we are just accept a win for what it actually is, and that's the game, 3 points.
2.) 21 Sep 2024 23:26:57
Great post mot.
3.) 22 Sep 2024 10:07:07
A shining light in a wallowing pit of cack ridden doom and gloom! Thanks Ani! Reality strikes!
24 Aug 2024 22:04:34
Probably give rise to few eyebrows, but just read that Leeds have kept the most clean sheets in 2024 in the top 4 divisions and in that time, Mes has played, 48% of his matches have been clean sheets; a championship record.
1.) 24 Aug 2024 22:49:20
Thank god we defend well from front to back.
2.) 24 Aug 2024 23:07:35
Ani
As by some distance our most learned poster Dill has so ably detailed in numerous posts during past week including today:
Le Gash was wayy down tbe table in goalkeeping stats compared to the rest of Champo gks and that's with our defence .
Those " record clean sheets " sadly count the same as Leeds United " 90 point trophy " . nowt
No promotion.
3.) 25 Aug 2024 03:39:08
Statistically speaking he's bang average. Defence did a lot of the heavy lifting last season. Most notably, making sure he faced the least shots of the top 6 by some margin.
4.) 25 Aug 2024 04:58:57
Even yesterday he nearly messed an easy collect.
It’s beyond me how the management team can’t see how bad he is. It’s so obvious.
5.) 25 Aug 2024 06:25:16
Wasting your time Ani showing factual information like this to the doubters. Sorry guys but you are wrong about Mez in my opinion the coaches opinions, players opinions and certain other statistical info.
I’m also not going to waste anymore time either, this really is a very worn out debate.
Even if we win the this league and get promoted some of you will say we would have done better without him!
6.) 25 Aug 2024 07:36:42
Is statistical data not factual, OP? The defence did make sure he faced far less shots than his peers. It's a demonstrable fact. Less shots = more chance of clean sheets.
My teo cents fwiw. I'm not against Mes, just against the narrative he's a good keeper. He's smack bang in the middle of the league last season for most GK metrics. Some higher, some lower. I could write them all out to illustrate where he ranked in the league for each metric?
Have always said we can still get promoted with him, but at the same time we can also recruit better. Have to assume he's not going anywhere so it is rather a moot point atm, but he does keep being brought up by posters.
7.) 25 Aug 2024 08:39:07
I don’t need to wait Opti.
I can tell you now. If we win the league we could have done better without him.
8.) 25 Aug 2024 10:33:34
Ok just for the sake of entertaining ourselves a little further on this matter, can you explain to me especially you Dill and forget all your facts and stats on this one, why did Bielsa not offload Mez when we were promoted and why has Farke also not seeked to improve on Meslier?
Please no pathetic reasons that we can’t sell him because nobody wants him.!
My argument still remains the same, I still don’t think Meslier is the best GK we’ve had at this club but he is certainly no where near the rubbish that you blokes make him out to be. Plus he is still young enough to improve and it is possibly that, that the club is investing in his future?
9.) 25 Aug 2024 11:37:12
Said it a million times; stats, while facts, and very, very easily manipulated. Data overload is not the be all and end all. If you believe every stat put in front of you, without question, then it’s simply naive. Mes has saved every left footed shot from 5 to 15 yards away from the penalty spot (100%) , and no other keeper in the world has such a high success level. He is therefore the best in the world.
Data is there to be manipulated.
10.) 25 Aug 2024 12:20:43
How am I supposed to answer that, mate. Not privy to Bielsa's thoughts so would be pure supposition on my part.
From my point of view he was a decent young goalie with potential when we signed him. Having watched every game he's played, for me, he's made no notable improvements in the 5 seasons since. You have to expect (demand) progression in that amount of time and I don't think we have seen it.
Data is and should only be used as a measuring stick and in conjuction. You can learn a lot from it, but it's better when compounded with the eye test. His data isn't great and neither is he when you watch him.
I will say, there's meaningless data and then there's also meaningful data that applies directly to saves, shots faced, save percentages. If you disregard those then that's being rather myopic. They mean a lot. XG stuff for keepers can be discarded. Useless projections.
Also happy to stop talking about him tbh, mate. We've had same convos for weeks now and we know we have differing opinions on him and we're both stubborn enough not to change our minds ?.
11.) 25 Aug 2024 12:21:53
Mes is the " best " at nowt get. a grip
Opinions formed
. no one from either camp is swaying
. just gonner have to put up with his unreliability and gashness throughout season regrettably.
12.) 25 Aug 2024 12:39:21
Top class post Dill.
13.) 25 Aug 2024 13:32:34
I’m with you on that Dill, a rest it is.
Besides I can’t deal with Baz’s school yard name calling and sheep like opinions of Meslier any more.
Remember making up derogatory names for players was when I was about 9 years old.
14.) 25 Aug 2024 13:43:13
OP . Le Gash is quite cute sounding ? lol.
15.) 25 Aug 2024 14:43:45
Sounds like a French strip club.
16.) 25 Aug 2024 15:19:20
Nah. Sounds childish, hand infront of mouth, sniggering nonsense. Doesn’t even make any sense in terms of clever word or name manipulation.
17.) 25 Aug 2024 15:26:36
Dill lol ?.
15 Aug 2024 11:49:45
That’s where everyone wanted Amps playing.
14 May 2024 13:11:46
If the rumours are right Chris. we were on the brink of our own penalty for breaking FFP, so I suspect that's why we didn't do much in January, and why there will be a lot of selling this summer to finance any "rebuild, " regardless of the league we are in.
That's the bit I hate Chris. the constant resets; it's not like we get to build on from the previous "success;" Bielsa's second season being the only recent exception.
14 Jun 2023 17:34:39
Personally, I think we take with a pinch of salt all of these claims to stay or go; I am not sure any will make a statement on their intent [unless they are out of contract] until a manager is in place.
They're all on holiday and who are they telling their intent to, other than their agent, who would say anything to any one if it meant a transaction and another big slice of a fee. Nothing of note really happens at this end of window; there are always a lot of dominoes to fall this early on. Players intending to stay suddenly end up on their ear if a good recruit becomes an option and vice versa.
10 Jun 2023 06:45:17
It does make you wonder why all these “top” teams and managers, want our apparently, very ordinary, poorly performing players who are not good enough.
What do they know, see in them, that Leeds Utd didn’t get to see?
Setting aside that the majority of our first team are fully-fledged (current) internationals, some even the Captain of their respective National teams, it suggests that something else was wrong. Was it the coaching, the setup, the systems we have. Most, not all, of our loanees seem to have done well elsewhere. Let’s be honest, many of our current team for a while at least played well (enough) at some point.
I can imagine a lot will conclude it was the coaching, or the simple fact we has so many, but then why be so harsh on the players.
There’s a danger we are throwing the baby out with the bath water.
What the chance we ultimately end up far worse off after this next transfer window.
05 Jan 2025 22:19:48
Good luck Bright…I posted a similar message this morning, but for whatever reason the Eds didn’t post it. Thanks for engagement and thoughtful posts, and that goes to the vast majority of folks who frequent here.
04 Jan 2025 23:56:40
I don’t apportion the first goal to a Mes error; the real error occurred beforehand and Mes compounded it. He’s made that kind of run a dozen times in the last few seasons and he’s baled out the defence each and every time. (Remember Wolves in the EPL) I’m not defending the second one. I’m not sure what he did wrong for the third; had the defender missed his header, Mes would have punched it clear. The defending afterwards was p1$$ poor.
The play after our third went in was naive, much like after our penalty against Blackburn. It smacked of Bielsa ball in my view. The game was won and we just needed to retain possession. We played as if we were 3-1 down.
The core of the team will have a decent rest now and hopefully reflect on a hard lesson, including the Manger.
04 Jan 2025 18:52:53
It’ll be a 2 disc companion blu-ray box set. The other one will be called “missed sitters, ” with an introduction by Patrick Bamford.
04 Jan 2025 18:23:23
Baz at an actual match…you’re having a laugh.
04 Jan 2025 18:20:08
Not really Baz, Ange still has a 49.3% win rate at Spurs.
