I suspect Liverpool are gearing up for some sort of legal battle re var.
it is a dilemma.
Realistically the goal should have been given. It matters not that the rules say it can't once play restarts. What diff does that make?
If there has been a clear error that can be fixed within game time it should be fixed.
Whether it's a goal or penalty error.
I know back in the day no var and mistakes were made but var is supposed to be progress. No point having that sort of technology and not using it to its potential. The var guy should have signalled to the ref next break in play. No harm done awarding a goal 5 min later.

The whole point behind VAR was to eradicate mistakes, not make worse ones.
I agree Aus, that during game time, if it proven to be a duff decision, the game should be re-paused, or at least make the idiots deciding take longer over the decision. More camera angles, more thech, whatever it takes! Use the live TV coverage, let the broadcaster give information. Whatever it takes to give it 100% credibility, or just ditch the damned thing. It’s making a mockery of things.

The saying is that VAR is not the problem, it’s the people who are running it.
The thing is even if they employ ex pros to make the decisions, there still will be the odd error they will make but perhaps it would be better than what is now.?
Ultimately people will have to realize that it can not be be perfect with zero mistakes, the nature of the game will not allow that.
Even in slo mo with multiple angles you can not always determine for example in a foul, if there was intent or not.

Officiating without VAR I believe there are more mistakes, so it just depends on which of the better evils people prefer because it can never be without errors no matter what you do.

But where it can be rectified it should be. The next break in play. Award the goal and continue from where you are. Messes up position of play a bit cause no kick off after the goal but far better than not awarding the goal.

As Opti says VAR is not a magic wand to eradicate ALL mistakes but what it will do (even allowing for the odd human error) is greatly reduce the mistakes of the past where even a blind man could see the ref got it wrong. Without bashing the old cliche; it was the human that screwed up not the tech.

When VAR officials and the referee are in discussion it should be heard by all, like in Rugby league and union.

What Richie said is a great idea!
“So, are you telling me, that because it’s Leeds, the goal should be disallowed? Yes? Ok, I agree! ”…….

I think the on field decision was no goal so if there wasn't VAR it still wouldn't have been a goal. On that basis, I can't see any legal proceedings being successful.

VAR is all about control and corruption - the EPL have no desire to make it work properly.

What Alf said : very sadly for ( lack of ) EPL integrity.

They need George Integrity Whitebread.

Turns out VAR had thought the goal had been given rather than disallowed, so just agreed to the “on field” decision. Only when play restarted did they realise the assumption was completely wrong! Not even the fault of the tech! The communication has to be better so that there is no doubt!
