Sly sports will not repair any bridges with Leeds United supporters by giving Brenty a platform on the Monday night football show.

Apparently, Brenty states that every key metric under his tenure gad us finishing between 8th - 12th!

Carragher next question…. yeah but how long can you point towards metrics when the team were simply not recording any meaningful results?

Ouch!

If talking twoddle was an Olympic event Jesse would have gold.
Who is he trying to convince. It was your fault we were relegated. Metrics or not.

19 Feb 2024 21:12:14
Marsch had totally underestimated the Premiership, to say he was out of his depth would a vast understatement.
He’s the type of person who would blame everyone but himself.

19 Feb 2024 21:14:30
My metrics are saying that I'm grateful to sly spurts for giving him a platform so that he could make an even bigger fool of himself ?.

19 Feb 2024 21:33:29
I know I’m in the minority here, but I think 2 points from our last 10 games, and conceding 29 goals had a bit more to do with our relegation than Jesse.

19 Feb 2024 22:51:35
Ani. And the manager was?

19 Feb 2024 23:14:40
Marsch should have been out of the door straight after the Brentford game. Lady Luck kept us up. It was obvious he wasn't good enough.

19 Feb 2024 23:19:17
Ben, it was not Jesse, he left two months before our final 10 games. We were not in the relegation zone when he was sacked, had a game in hand on all around us and a -7 goal difference after 20 games. It’s all history now, but I firmly believe we would still in the EPL (probably still struggling, but nevertheless) had he not been sacked.

I accept most totally disagree with my opinion, but that’s all they are opinions. Facts are, in those 2 “relegation” seasons Jesse got more points and wins that the other 3 managers employed during them.

19 Feb 2024 23:19:39
Beating Liverpool that season ranks as one of the worst things to happen as it prolonged Marsch's woeful tenure. Lose that and we get a new manager before the WC and plenty of time to bed them in. Instead we fumbled about for mediocre managers as no decent ones wanted to leave clubs like Feyenoord or Vallecano to a doomed team.

20 Feb 2024 00:43:52
I always find it a strange argument to suggest we should have done worse than we actually did because that makes the manager worse than he actually was. It’s illogical! The facts are he did beat Liverpool, he did beat Chelsea. he did beat Brentford. He did keep us up.

The real issue is, that no one had ever been able to explain was that something went seriously wrong at half time against Palace; the team was never the same from that moment on. Nothing to do with Jesse since he had long gone. 2 points from 10 games and 29 goals conceded in that match and what followed. That was 7 points a season form, unfathomable.

I don’t subscribe to “Lady Luck” either, unless you accept that a team always lose because they’re unlucky or only win games by being lucky.

The thing is Dill, Slot and Ireola were not able to and / or did not want to leave Feyenoord ( at all ) or Vallecano ( until season complete)

If Leeds had sacked Brenty in November I am wondering which manager they could have attracted who was actually gettable.

Leeds were flirting just above bottom 3 all season but it was the Palace game and beyond that sunk Leeds ( Brenty wasnt even coach then ) as Ani correctly stated

Imo relegation is down to ( most of ) the players more than Brenty.

Just Rodrigoal and one or two other players excepted.

20 Feb 2024 01:10:56
Again, I’m probably in the minority, but Tyler Adams injury was a big blow. He wasn’t creative but he was very disruptive in the middle. Saying that, it made no difference to calamitous fall for the remainder of the season. I’m with Baz on this one; the players hold most of the blame for our relegation. Maybe the mass exodus is somewhat linked to that drop off in form. Were players already negotiating their exits as relegation became ever more likely…a self fulfilling prophecy?

In time, a retired player will share what went off that night.

20 Feb 2024 05:26:30
In my opinion it was the players who kept us up after Bielsa. It was then the players also who got us relegated. The problem with Marsch is that he was unable to get the best of them and by the time he was sacked it was already too late.
Beating Liverpool just papered over the glaringly clear cracks in his ineffective coaching.

20 Feb 2024 06:34:49
Ani, my Lady Luck comment refered to the situation we were in before kick off at Brentford. If Burnley equaled or bettered our result on the day we were down, it was out of our hands. Then we decided to keep him and the recruitment that followed left a lot to be desired.

20 Feb 2024 07:42:50
I understand LUFC, but that’s football. What about Burnley’s other 37 results that season? Had Bamford scored the sitter v Leicester; had Kane’s 4th been correctly disallowed, the Burnley performance that day would have been irrelevant. Football is all about “if, buts and maybe’s. ”.

Sacking JM, when we did, just caused disruption, confusion, and chaos. The panic that then followed with subsequent sackings was beyond a joke, and caused total breakdown in the squad. The blame, for me lies firmly with Radz and Orta, despite having defended them prior to that point. They did a great job getting us to the PL, and building the club from the bottom up, changing the mindset and culture, and stuffed it right up when it mattered most.

Wat Baz said,

20 Feb 2024 17:01:07
The biggest mistake; btw, I don't subscribe to the argument that Jesse should have been sacked before the WC, however since they didn't do that, it was crazy to then sack him right after the window closed after bringing all the players in. The board just panicked in my opinion, further evidenced by the ridiculous appointment of Sam.

To Baz's earlier point, who could / would have come had they sacked Jesse before the WC? Honest answers please, Farke was available then. how would folks have reacted to him being appointed then?
