Mornin siblings and a jolly good one it is too. I think its time to acknowledge our fortune in finally having an owner fitting of our great club and having a coach who is about to deliver in two seasons what many have failed to do since the days of O'Leary. From the austerity of Pappa Smurf, who saw our club as a cash cow to the utter carnage of GFH and the catalytic struggle under Big Mass, we now have a club run professionally and properly from top to bottom. Our youth set up is blossoming and we have a squad of honest and talented players with the right ethics. Be proud and thankful bruvvers an sisters, we are coming home ;)

Here, here Vid

I was too young to appreciate how well out club was run during the glory days. I think I only became aware of how a club is run once the Peter Risdale era had come to an end. Even then, in the early days after, I didn't grasp just how awful that era had been behind the scenes. I was still basking in the glory of European semi finals.
If Peter had left his chequebook in his pocket a bit more I think we could have still had a brilliant team, some brilliant games, and the show would have gone on for longer
(did we really need, Seth Johnson, Robbie Keane, Robbie Fowler, Danny Mills, and even Rio Ferdinand if I am honest)
But from then on, I have become hugely aware of how the board shapes a club. Kramer, Bates, GFH. They were a living nightmare.
I think Cellino was the starting point for our upward trajectory. Mad as a box, but he set about getting the finances right. Then he sold to someone who had done the same. No FFP issues, but definitely flirting with it.
Average players
Brings in a brilliant manager
Players become less average
Fans become more connected
Sponsors become more plentiful
Results get better
Attract better players

I am loving the ride, thank you.

Well said Axe.

To be fair Axe, I wasn't aware of any Leeds fans shouting stop at Ridsdale at the time . We all now have the benefit of hindsight and know it was wrong, but had his gamble. paid off then Leeds may have never went down the path we did and may well have been a powerhouse in the premiership .
The old adage, need to speculate to accumulate has to play out also .

Chris Chris

Absolutely with you on the Risedale rollercoaster. I enjoyed that as much as this one and I never shouted stop.

However I was always perplexed by some of the later purchases. They didn't seem to move us forward.

When you have Gary Kelly and Alan Maybury at right back, why do you purchase Danny Mills.

When you have Dacourt and Batty in the middle of the park with Bakke and MacPhail waiting for their chance, why but Seth Johnson.

When you have Kewell, Viduka and Smith upfront, with Wilcox, Huckerby and Bridges in reserve, why buy Robbie Fowler or Robbie Keane

When you have Woodgate and Radebe at centre back with Matteo filling in, why buy Rio Ferdinand

I just never got it. Why did we buy benchwarners?
To be fair I think Rio was the only player that improved the team. Class player. But did he improve the centre back area of that team that much?

Going forward I would love us to:
Get promoted
Win the Championship
Secure all the players on new contracts (even Beradi)
All further transfers IN should be of Starting 1st XI quality
Any current 1st XI players used to improve the bench, not sold.

Axe
U buy mills as he was better than maybury
U buy Fowler and keane because they were better than bridges and forest Gump
U buy Rio as he was class
I'll give u seth Johnson thou, but in his defence he was touted as a promising player.

Bridges was better at that stage of Fowlers career, but unfortunately always injured.

Sorry Axe, Can't agree about Beardi, liabilty in the championship. What he would do in the Premier is really scary.

I agree the journey in early 2000’s was great, I had the pleasure of going to Rome and Milan, but it wasn’t for the fans to worry about Ridsdale and his ridiculous way of running a club, that is what he took money out of the club to do, we should expect he runs things correctly, but he didn’t because he is a retard, and did waste money on some bang average, and less than average players.
On the Rio debate, he was utter class when he arrived and when O’Leary took over and in his first game against Chelsea put Woodgate to partner him, it was the best centre half pairing in Europe, the others like Seth were parp.

AGM I really don’t think Berardi would play in premier league if we get promoted! I think he has value as back up in championship and probably good leader/ character in dressing room! I don’t think he will have contract renewed!
Either kept on in coaching capacity or return to Italian lower league!
