Interesting approach to coaching from Brighton tonight, with player coach Gary Dicker (aged 35) starting at DM - setting a good example by picking up the first yellow, for pulling back Greenwood. According to Leeds Live, Brighton aren’t the only club to employ an player coach with u23s in this way, with Southampton being one of the others.

Didn’t know that Clue, and it’s interesting to see. I know that when I was coaching, me and my assistant would always play in training matches as an alternative of of helping young players. even up to U18.after that, we couldn’t keep up! 🤣🤣🤣.

Alf - definitely not suggesting we should take it up - just pointing it out - seems to much like talking the lads through the game, seems to take some of the in-game responsibility away from the squad, and risks stunting the development of leadership within the group. Also if the coach is having a shocker, would have thought that could affect potentially undermine the squad’s confidence in the coach.
