Hey Berm

Be interested to know of the names of (at least) some of the 35 Leeds United managers ( out of 45 Leeds United managers in history) in your opinion managed better at Leeds United / achieved better things as Leeds United manager than David O'Leary.

If you wish to.

Agree0 Disagree0

Baz ??.

Well it depends on mindset

See I don’t see achievements as just doing well… for example pep winning champions league and premiership this year for me is less of an achievement than Luton staying up… you have to look at what they achieved with the hand given.

Top managers for achievement with teams given

1. Wilko… only leeds manager to ever genuinely over achieve
2. Revie… did well but should of won more given talent at his disposal
3. Neil warnock… yes seriously. That year we should of been relegated. We had poor team, he sold everyone and had no money to replace, build a team around snodgrass only to have him sold before season started… that season was forgettable which considering we was worst team in leauge with no money was amazing
4. Grayson… got us promoted and built a premiership team only for bates to pull it to bits and not replace them
5. Venables… again had team falling to bits but cobbled them together and got some good results

Then look at worst managers… well managers need two things, money and time so that’s taken into account

Worst managers

3rd hockaday… useless but has no time or money which is why he is only third
2nd Belisa… four years and 100s of millions to make us a joke who get thrashed every week… he made us a joke and broke so many unwanted records that he must be up there
1…. Worst manager in our history. o Leary… managers need money and time… o Leary spent a fortune and had years plus he had the added bonus of great youth…. That leeds team under a decent manger would of become an era defining team. That was one of the beat teams in Europe… had he spent money well and not on Seth Johnson… we could of dominated football for ten years or more

So that’s my theory and no one will change my mind and when it’s debated in person (as I have done) no one can argue

Coming from the only leeds fan who saw Phillips for what he was… maybe I know something about football.

15 Mar 2024 20:56:22
Change the question slightly out of all the managers who should of done better?

Oleray and Belisa are top two.

15 Mar 2024 21:49:49
To your credit Berm you always front up with explanation replies.

I did particularly enjoy your DOL explanation

' That Leeds team was one of the best teams in Europe; had he spent money well and not on Seth Johnson, we could have dominated football for ten years or more "

Wow ?.

15 Mar 2024 23:07:25
True though he went a bit mental we needed a left back and maybe a cb as duberry wasn’t great so what does he spend money on… a million striker and Seth Johnson

Did we really need, Keane, smith, viduka, bridges, flower all up front when we only played one striker?

Look at warnock. could he of done more? Not really, should he of won more? Not really

look at o Leary… could he of done more… yes should he of won more 100%

Anyone can manage a great team and play decent football… it’s the managers who overachieve who impress me… o Leary massively underachieved and threw away what could of been a golden generation.

Thank you Berm. your posts do make me chuckle ?

From my memory Leeds generally played 4 4 2.2 up front ( not 1) under DOL

Viduka and Smith
Viduka and Fowler

Bridges was out injured permanently since early part of 2000/ 01 season . so a new striker was was needed .

We do agree about LB defensive deficiency. which needed addressing

Pure fantasy of you Berm to suggest that DOL " massively under achieved " .

Leeds United were up against powerhouse clubs in Real Madrid, Barca, Man. U, Arsenal, Valencia. and there were at least 3 other very strong EPL sides in Liverpool, Newcastle and Chelsea.

16 Mar 2024 01:48:04
. as for Neil " Colin " Warnock. he was mediocre at Leeds and imo worse still he simply did NOT. care that he and Leeds were mediocre

Colin that " managed ' a record breaking Leeds United 7 goal concession in a match. nightmares . cheers Colin

Colin who bought in absolute donkeys Steve Morrison ( your Millwall fave) and Luke Varney . dropping Leeds class goalscorer Ross McCormack most of the time. cheers Colin

As for your very dubious claim Grayson " built a Prem team "

no way Berm . Leeds finished 7th . Leeds weren't good enough for playoffs let alone anywhere near good enough for EPL especially the woeful defence that conceded a whopping humiliating 6 goals at home to Preston for starters.

I don’t think you can say that about Warnock. He did care, and it showed when he was sat in the stands after his appointment and went to the changing room at HT to sort the shambles out that was losing, who then turned the game around; just one example. He also talks very positively about his time with us, and acknowledges that if he was working for a better owner, could have achieved much more.
I’m more interested on which 4 of his own fingers George used to get 4 likes for a post most skip past? ?????.

16 Mar 2024 09:08:26
Baz you just made me 100% right

Warnock was mediocre and brought in steve Morrison. That’s my point… he sold the amazing snodgrass and lost other players like schmicel and gradel and had to because of money replace them with paddy kenny and hababuimibi

Look at that team …

Paddy
White
Green
Brown
Morrison
Varney
Habibibi
El haji duif who was 122 years old

And his brilliance made them mediocre. … that team on paper gets relegated… ask yourself this …. Does o Leary keep them up. … never in a million years… he could only dream of being good enough to make that team mediocre

Now look at o learys team

Martyn (for many our best ever keeper)
Woodgate (shearer said best defender he ever played with it against)
Rio (best player on the planet… certainly up there)
Heart (should of been replaced)
Mills (very strong player)
Dacourt (again one of the best in the leauge)
Bowyer (possible my fav ever leeds player certainly most underrated he was world class)
Kwelle (at the time one of the beat players in leauge)
Viduka (our best ever striker again best in the leauge or up there)

And he failed to get in champions leauge? Really you don’t see that as massive fauiler and under achieving?
He spent a fortune for the time and we was one of the biggest spending clubs in world football … he had some of the best players on the planet… most of them he inherited

And he still ruined us…. Find me one positive?

Sorry baz all logical thinkers and most leeds fans would back me on this and disagree with you… when your wrong… your wrong.

16 Mar 2024 11:38:59
Bright tht was first game . one game. his remaining 12 months was not bothered gash from him . not playing McCormack who ws class, record breaking 7 goal concession defeat at home. give over

Berm . those players you describe Wendies bought were bog standard mid table Champo players . which is exactly what Leeds were under Warnock

Warnock did have a class goalscorer in McCormack ( which you interestingly again fail to refer to Berm ?) who he never played.

After Warnock was rightly sacked . McCormack scored a whopping 28 goals for Leeds following season.

And as for your DOL and Leeds team fantasy extreme hyperbole nonsense. we don't agree . and that's more than fine

On to focus on Millwall game this Sunday .3 poinrs please.

16 Mar 2024 12:57:19
Good point about McCormack

100% wrong about warnock we lost becchio and snodgrass as season started and many fancied us to go down. We finished 13th and that was not the 13th best team in leauge by a mile.

Warnock is the second most successful manager in the league ever (after farke! ) guess this down to luck?

I don’t mind difference of opinion but your lack of perspective perplexed me.

As for my hyperbole nonsense (god you love that phrase more than warnock loves Michael brown)

What about my leeds team assessment was wrong about my assessment… that was a champions leauge team led by below average manger… what did o pearly do after? Nothing

Guess o learys failed career and warnock success must be down to luck or maybe my hyperbole nonsense?

I’m glad I make you chuckle that as that is my job!
