Clueless
Palace 3 vs Spurs 0 ( albeit with 10 men)

whilst still early days your tip of Vieira and Palace struggling looks increasingly unlikely ; they are not conceding many and the Eduard signing could be a good one for them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Baz - Firstly Spurs have been badly hit following the international break by injuries and the c.v. rebels now in isolation, therefore missing Lo Celso, Sanchez, Romero Son and Bergwijn, plus Skipp and Ryan Sessagnon. The first five were a significant miss, and consequently Spurs were pretty poor throughout. Secondly Nuno should have subbed Tanganga before he got his second yellow. Thirdly the penalty which opened the scoring was a very soft one - Davies’ hand was not in an unnatural position and the ball was struck hard from 4 around yards away - up to that point Spurs had been holding on fairly easily.

Palace have Liverpool away next, followed by Brighton then Leicester at home. Given Brighton’s decent form, none of those are particularly easy. Still a little early to judge how it’s going for them, given their lucky breaks today. Besides, if they had already signed Edouard, I would not have tipped them to struggle so badly, as he is a very clear upgrade on Benteke.

Agree apart from penalty. Was definitely away from his body.

Canada - yes it was away from his body, but the new guidance also stresses that it should be in an unnatural position - the radio commentators said his arm was moving naturally in coordination with the rest of his body, consistent with how he was moving before the ball was struck - ie he did not make a move to block the ball - and also didn’t have time to get out of the way.

{Ed001's Note - he had his arm stuck out to widen himself, it is a clear and obvious penalty, nothing soft about it.}

Ok Ed, I clearly shouldn’t trust the commentary on Talksport. Their punditry is obviously suspect, but previously their ‘factual’ commentary on decisions has usually been not too far off.

{Ed001's Note - once you have your hand out from the body, the natural position is not relevant. It is about whether it increases your natural silhouette, which his did. That is why so many put their arms behind their back now to avoid that.}

Looking at the FA’s own summary of the changes, it clearly states that now ‘A player’s hand/ arm position should be judged in relation to their body movement in that particular situation’.
