On reflection, and having looked at a ‘wall hart’ of the Euros fixtures for the first time, it was probably best to finish top of the group. We were going to have to face one of France, Germany or Portugal in the Round of 16 or the Quarters, and probably best to do that at Wembley in the coming fixture rather than do so in St Petersburg if we got through the R16 fixture in Copenhagen.
This route, the theoretically worst we can face in the QF in Rome would be the misfiring Spanish, followed by the Netherlands back at Wembley. Anyway, best just hope we get through on Tuesday.
