Wonder what Delap would cost?

Agree0 Disagree0

23 May 2026 06:17:24
Big nooooooo on Liam Delap.

1 goal in 27 Chelsea games.. and Chelsea want rid.

Think I would prefer ole timer Rory Delap to Liam.

23 May 2026 07:58:18
Decent Championship player at best, nowhere near good enough for the Premier League. Why Chelsea bought him is, for me, one of life's great mysteries.

23 May 2026 08:19:08
I seldom chime in on these discussions, but watching Delap the other night, after someone mentioned him as a target on here, I thought what a really poor player he was, with an attitude that stinks.

He's absolutely stealing a living.

23 May 2026 08:35:43
Agree with all of you, his name does crop up far too often, but I have no idea why.
His stats are truly dreadful this season, and you can throw in his discipline with that also.
Don't think Maresca was too impressed with him while he was there, also.

He might do better at another club, who knows? It would be a big risk though when you are likely to pay 30+ Mil for him. Best avoided in my opinion.

23 May 2026 19:06:41
I guess I'm pragmatic. A player like that, there's always a price I would pay to see if they fit at Leeds, or just need a change of scenery. But it wouldn't be anywhere near the release clause they paid Ipswich for him, which looked good value at the time.

Don't forget Man U, Newcastle, and a host of others desperately wanted him.

But I'd only pay up to 15M for him. And Chelsea won't do that. So on we go.

Shall we do some end of the season awards then (albeit the season isn't quite done yet) ?

This is for Leeds only - ignore other teams

The categories are:

Player of the season:
Goal of the season:
Young player:
New player (i.e. only signed this year) :
Most improved:
Most disappointing:
Most influential:
Most surprising:

Mine are:

Player of the season: Amps
Goal of the season: Justin overhead kick vs Wolves
Young player: errr.

New player (i.e. only signed this year) : GG
Most improved: Aaronson
Most disappointing: Longstaff
Most influential: DCL
Most surprising: Justin

And an honourable mention for Stach who could have got 3 or 4 of the above but was just pipped.

What's the deadline, Alf - calls for some serious thought. :)

22 May 2026 16:56:34
Hi Alf,
Player of the season: DCL.
Goal of the season: Stach v Villa.
Young player: Gray (for RUFC) .
New player (i.e. only signed this year) : GG.
Most improved: Aaronson.
Most disappointing: Tanaka.
Most influential: Ampadu.
Most surprising: Justin.

22 May 2026 17:16:46
Player of season: DCL. Without him, we were in doodoo.

Goal of season: DCL goal (where the whole team played a pass in the build up vs Sunderland) .

Young player: Charlie Cresswell (ok, then his brother) .

New player: DCL.

Most improved: Darlow.

Most disappointing: possibly Perri.

Most influential: DCL.

Most surprising: DCL. Did not expect 14 goals or a full season of no injury.

22 May 2026 18:56:55
Player of the season: DCL.
Goal of the season: Stach free kick v Villa. (Alternatively goal away at Devon) .
Young player: Alfie Cresswell.
New player (i.e. only signed this year) Bijol.
Most improved: Darlow/Farke.
Most disappointing: Perri.
Most influential: Ampadu.
Most surprising: James Justin.

22 May 2026 21:02:33
Player of the season: Amps. DCL, close second.
Goal of the season: Whole team goal v Sunderland.
Young player: Gray.
New player: Okafor is the most exciting, but also GG is a good shout.
Most improved: Struik.
Most disappointing: Tanaka.
Most influential: DCL.

Most surprising: Justin. [my most pleasing player!]

I would add another category, that being most unlucky: I would say Longstaff - he's scored and made some great goals when he's played, and imo, should be starting before BA, especially in the last couple of months.

23 May 2026 07:05:10
Player of the season is a tough one, cause most have had good and bad spells, so I will go Rodon.
Goal is a dead heat between Villa and Sunderland. Both quality goals.
Young. Who, what, where. We don't play young.
New would have to be Justin.

Improved is Darlow.
Disappointing. Perri, closely followed by Tanaka.
Influential would be the captain Amps.
Surprising is Justin again.
Agree with ani. Should be playing Longstaff more. And Gnonto and less of Tanaka, James and Arronsen.

23 May 2026 08:35:26
Player of the season: Amps.
Goal of the season: Team goal against Sunderland.
Young player: Willy. Did not play a lot, but came on to influence games.
New player: Gabby. Shakey start, but came good.
Improved player: Aaronson. Really good mid-season.
Disappointing: Tanaka. Not really got up to speed with the prem.

Influential player: Amps.
Surprising player: Justinho. Big thanks to Leicester for not seeing this player right under their noses.

But, I must say, I think it's been a good team effort. Even the bench has contributed to goals and assists. Every one of our players has put a shift in this year to keep us up.

23 May 2026 13:49:14
Player of the season: Amps.
Goal of the season: Team goal v Sunderland.
Young player: Alfie Cresswell.
New player: Bijol.
Improved player: Darlow.
Disappointing: Dan James.
Most influential: Amps.
Most surprising: James Justin.

23 May 2026 19:11:17
Player of the season: Ampadu. Would have been closer with GG and Stach, but both had a bit of injury about them at times.
Goal of the season: Tanaka vs. Chelsea.
Young Player: None of the first team are particularly young, but guess it must have been one of those two lads who made the bench in the end of the season.

New Player: Tied for Gabby and Stach (can't separate them) . Bijol, Justin, DCL, Okafor all just behind.
Improved: Aaronson.
Disappointing: Perri. Honourable mention: Perri.
Influence: Ampadu.
Surprising: DCL.

22 May 2026 15:01:07
Obvious disappointed for DCL on a personal level, sure he would have jumped through hoops to get on that plane to the US. From a Leeds fan perspective I'm glad as he'll get a good rest over the summer, come back fully refreshed and less likely to be injured.

Welcome back Kochy! I agree!

22 May 2026 17:01:48
Cheers, Brighty. Too many health issues these days to be more of a contributor these days.

22 May 2026 17:02:19
Agreed, Kochy.
We can say the same for Stach.

23 May 2026 08:02:44
Sorry to hear that, Koch. Always a pleasure to hear from you, mate. 👍

22 May 2026 12:26:17
Absolutely shockingly bad England squad announced. Gibbs White should definitely be in the squad.

Agree2 Disagree0

22 May 2026 12:51:49
Based on form and goals scored, it's a no brainer. But I've followed so many anticlimactic England World Cup campaigns where we have had the golden generation who flopped.

For me, time will tell if Tuchel got it right, targeting the best team over the most talented players.

That being said, I'm not sure I'll even watch England games. It's the hope that kills.

22 May 2026 13:34:30
For me, the biggest surprises were the inclusion of Henderson (way past his best) , Mainoo (too raw) , and Stones (fitness doubt) - I'd have had Gibbs White, Wharton, and Maguire instead. Agree with the omission of Palmer and Foden tho. Love DCL, but he'd not have been in my England squad.

22 May 2026 14:38:50
Good post, Jr, and it's good to have World Cup in between. Kills the boredom.
Best not watch favourites in any match, c lookass. Underdogs group stages way more entertaining.

22 May 2026 15:17:55
Don't forget that Mainoo plays for Yernited though, so has to be picked.

22 May 2026 21:11:22
The thing about including Palmer, MGW and Foden is, who would folks be arguing about missing out, because players like Anderson, Rogers, Bellingham, etc., one or more would have to be left out. Personally, I like Foden, despite Pep doing his best to ruin his career, so I do think he's a bit unlucky. He can definitely change a game.

I think Maguire is also a bit unlucky; he has been playing pretty well, and he is a menace in the attacking box.

He's never made a mistake that I can remember playing for England, whereas, despite how skilful Stones is, he has made some howlers playing for England [he takes more risks, granted].

Like Aft says, the manager is paid to make the picks, and he's the one who lives and dies by his decisions [the difference for him is being paid mega bucks v only earning huge amount of bucks!].

23 May 2026 01:01:19
Tuchel made a couple of very good points in his TV interview. Firstly, he can only take 26 players, and if he'd included any of the ones he was criticised for leaving out, he'd have had to leave out one of those he had chosen, and would then be criticised for omitting them, so whoever he chose he couldn't win.

Secondly, that he chose those players he thinks have the best chance of winning as a team, not the 26 best individuals.

Southampton spying goes right back to the Jesse Marsch era at Leeds United; an extract from the files reads. "We have attended Thorp Arch on 12 occasions and we haven't a f****** clue what he is trying to do."

But Brighty,

Surely, one of Brenty's notorious word salad press conferences

would have been more than enough for Saints not to bother going on a pointless spying jolly to Thorp Arch.

21 May 2026 19:06:07
Brilliant and sadly accurate, Brighty.
I thought I'd got rid of him but then he came to Canada. Aaaagh.

21 May 2026 20:43:47
Lol, Canada!
