Leeds United U21s 4, Barnsley 3. Hat trick for 18 yr old Callum Mills.

It was 4 - 0 after 80 mins! They played really well though for 60 mins.

Three goals conceded to wee Barnsley
Oops.

23 Sep 2026 01:05:50
We are talking teenagers against grizzled older pros, so any win is good, even only agin wee Barnsley.
At the same time, Accrington Stanley beat Sunderland U21s, Crewe Alexandra beat Aston Villa U21s, Bradford beat Newcastle U21s, Leicester beat Fulham U21s, Luton beat Ipswich U21s and Plymouth Argyle beat Crystal Palace U21s. Also Liverpool U21s only beat Rochdale, and Notts Forest U21s beat Burton Albion after penalty shoot outs.
Leeds United were the only Prem U21s to win in regular time, so don't be too hard on them.

Read that Callum Mills is the youngest hat trick scorer in the cup!

So Leeds with their vastly superior revenue to the 3 promoted clubs have spent £90 million while Hull and Ipswich have spent double and Coventry £50 million more than Leeds.
We are in a very good place and our owners deserve a lot of credit but please do not kid yourselves or use PSR or whatever the latest financial restriction excuse is called to think our lowest spend in the EPL is because of these financial restrictions.it is prudent spending designed to maximise our US owners and investors return which I fully accept they are not in the football club ownership game for charitable reasons and of course they will want a piece of the pie to make it worthwhile but I personally think they are taking too much for themselves as Sunday showed we lack at least 2 more quality additions to be considered a top 6 challenging side which probably would cost at least £50 to £60 million.
Oh well mustn't complain and expect too much I suppose is the brainwashed, obedient and compliant consensus after all it's only our 2nd season in the EPL and we have to be realistic and not entitled and not aim too high as it's only our 2nd season.steady building is the way because it's only our 2nd season.have I mentioned it's only our 2nd season and we shouldn't expect too much??
Yes our owners have been very clever, haven't they indeed, but that's their perogative and I'm sure as long as the majority of the fan base seem to easily accept this as that's just the way it is our owners will give us another lowest spend in the EPL next season.
In my opinion they could easily give Farke a helping hand in January and at least try and bring in a couple of new additions we all recognise are needed on loan if need be and I know there will be the push back reason of it's not that easy to find these players that potentially have to be content with a subs bench blar blar blar.well try I say, look at Man City or Arsenal young B team players at least, look around South America and Africa like Brighton and Brentford seem to do year on year.
Reach for the stars I say and don't settle for just okay because a top 6 finish and European football brings even larger financial rewards so I hope our owners can see this season is a real opportunity to establish Leeds ahead of the likes of Spurs, Villa and Newcastle and on a par with Brentford and Brighton.now I don't think that's too much to ask!

Very interesting Brighty. So funny to see Spurs in the mire - mind you, at least they are top of this particular table:) ) )
2
22 Sep 2026 13:48:59
So according to the figures above Man City (£30 million x 15 points) spent £450 million in Summer window.
.woah.
2
22 Sep 2026 14:02:22
This is obviously not net spend?
3
22 Sep 2026 13:42:38
Very interesting posts by bright and Cheshire. Food for thought. I'd rather me mid table tbh. Not too tight or big spenders. Looks like we might be tight or over performing. Anyway of finding those figures for end of last season bright? Be interesting to see how promoted clubs faired last year ?
1
22 Sep 2026 13:50:29
Cheshire - all the info you are whining and speculating about is in the public domain. If you do some research you will quickly find out the logical answers to your conspiracy theories.
2
22 Sep 2026 16:18:43
It's actual laughable that his "answer” to all our problems is 2 signings at a cost of £60 million would get us in the top 6.
As if every club in the world wouldn't spend the extra "£60 million” if that guaranteed you top 6.
The club have said multiple times we are / were close and had to sell pascal to meet the demands.
I wish we would overspend and gamble on getting in the champions league and then gamble on making it past the group stages for the next 6 years, oh wait, hasn't that happened before?
2
22 Sep 2026 16:50:56
I think there's a somewhat middle ground from Cheshire's reasoned expectations and statements and the sentiments of Alf and Lad
And also
1) Not sure peeps should believe everything they are fed by current owners ( or most owners for that matter )
And
2) defo empathise with Cheshire to ponder how much the Leeds United owners and their gazillion number of individual stakeholders are receiving.thats long been on my mind !
2
22 Sep 2026 19:54:40
The answer Baz is clearly is not very much if anything, given that we spend more than 85% of our income on the players. Then there is the ground to run, all the back room staff, match day security, lawyers etc. I would hazard a guess, most if not all the stakeholders are well under water and will likely remain that way until the ownership changes.
2
22 Sep 2026 19:55:48
Surely making the club over time more successful generates more for the stakeholders to keep them happy.
We are not Man Utd that still generates millions upon millions on just their name, not from their achievements which are less than a shadow compared to their past.
The 49er's I'm certain want Leeds United to become more successful and not to be static.
The conspiracy theories are for the fantasists.
1
22 Sep 2026 20:52:35
Yes Ani the big payday for owners and other minority stakeholders will be when the club is sold for a whopping load more than 49ers purchased Leeds from Radz.
.once stadium expansion and regeneration projects have been completed and with Leeds United hopefully still firmly established in EPL.
1
22 Sep 2026 20:55:47
Realists OP. not all so called conspiracy theories in the world are baseless.far from it.
1
22 Sep 2026 21:00:49
Harsh and rude towards Cheshire.
1
23 Sep 2026 06:11:54
Harsh and rude comments aimed at the owners of our club with no evidence at all to support such brazen accusations.
It's got nothing to do with being a realist at all.
1
23 Sep 2026 07:41:58
Aus: I'm sure there is bud, but I gotta admit that the above was just something that social media threw out and I shared with the group to have some fun with! (Clearly that went sideways, as usual tho!) 😬🤔🤣.
21 Sep 2026 14:26:53
My take on yesterday. Not one of our best performances after Monday nights game, but Palace were far better and stronger than Newcastle. After giddy talk by some regarding a challenge for a European place, this was a reality check for us that at this point consolidation is the aim. Our effort yesterday couldn't be faulted but glaringly in a game like that, were crying out for some midfield creativity which was lacking, rectifying this must be a priority in January.
As it is, 5 unbeaten and 9 points on the board is a fine start that the majority of us would have taken. The next 5 games after the break will tell us a lot about what the rest of the season may hold for us.
8
21 Sep 2026 14:29:35
Fair analysis Feath.
3
21 Sep 2026 14:30:11
Lurve it Feath. giddy talk by some indeed.
3
21 Sep 2026 16:05:10
Have a look at our league position and form since City game and still tell me European football is a pipe dream. Not to mention Sunderland coming 7th last season!
2
21 Sep 2026 16:58:20
I don't fully understand how easy or difficult these financial fair play rules really are to follow and how close we are to them every year if that's true or not. But what I can understand is if you are playing in the PL is a higher % allowed than if playing in Europe.
Would I love to be playing on a Thursday night against teams from around Europe, probably yes. But would I want it at the expense of not having another year of being allowed more to spend on the squad next season. Probably not.
I'd like a decent finish this year and a real push next year for Europe with the stadium increase. 1 season too soon for me. (Based on my little understanding of the FFP / SCR) unless some1 tells me otherwise that it wouldn't effect our ability to improve the squad next season.
1
21 Sep 2026 17:06:50
I believe you have 15% less to spend when in Europe. However the extra revenue from a good European cup run more than makes up for the shortfall.
2
21 Sep 2026 17:26:01
Well said Feath as usual!
I think people have under estimated Palace they won 4.0 in Europe other night & won the Conference Cup last year!
A point is a point on & on!
Up The Whites Down The Pints 💛💙🤍!
2
21 Sep 2026 18:12:53
Corkey, do you know if the spend is based on current seasons income or last season's?
Could make it tricky for those that gamble on a successful season.
0
21 Sep 2026 19:41:15
Google Premier League SCR rules and it's all there to read. Basically, Premier League clubs are capped at spending 85% of their football-related revenue on squad costs (wages, transfer amortisation, and agent fees) . Clubs playing in European competitions are bound by UEFA's stricter 70% cap. The %ages apply to this season's expenditure, not last season.
Personally, whilst I'd to finish as high up the table as possible, I'd not want to qualify for Europe this season cos I don't think we're ready for it yet. Next year with another year's PL experience under our belts, and the stadium upgrades staring to come online, then we shall see.
2
21 Sep 2026 21:59:38
JR mate, you'd like to finish as high up as possible yet don't want to qualify for Europe?
0
21 Sep 2026 22:19:46
It's based on this season's expenditure and income, Canada. We're within the 85% and can go up to 115% without points deductions. If we go above 85 then it reduces our percentage in following seasons.
Currently Bournemouth and Chelsea are in the red danger zone.
1
21 Sep 2026 23:00:43
Yes Corkey, I'm being contradictory aren't I. This season European qualification goes down to 8th, though next year it could be 7th depending on circumstances, so ideally I might be happy to finish 9th. However, I always want us to win every game, and if it comes to the last match of the season, and winning will take us to 8th I'll still want to win.
Then I'd approach the next season with trepidation knowing we'd have to fit in at least 6 group stage games on top of our regular PL, FA Cup and League cup commitments, and I don't think we have a big enough squad for that yet. This is all hypothetical for now, so let's just see how we do.
2
22 Sep 2026 18:51:19
I get where you are coming from JR but when will the right time be to potentially play in Europe?
If it were to happen next season after a fabulous 6th place finish then I for one will be ecstatic and raring to go.
Will Leeds fans really be saying "oh sugar we've qualified for Europe too early and are squad is not good enough and we are doomed”. I doubt it.
Let's see where we end up.
2
23 Sep 2026 07:50:30
Purely my own thoughts, but while European nights are fantastic, being there next season doesn't sit well with the constraints we are operating in, and building a solid foundation to stabilise the club in the EPL.
For context, bringing on BA and DJ as subs was labelled as uninspiring, but we don't have much choice, as we can't afford to upgrade them yet, or have them sat on the bench with similar calibre replacements in other positions.
Until we have that strength in depth, Europe will act as something detrimental, rather than beneficial to our progression, imo.
21 Sep 2026 14:11:37
At least we have tomorrow night's game to look forward to in this enforced footballing "lull". Looking forward to watching the U21s vs Barnsley!
1
21 Sep 2026 14:34:00
Not really interested in u21s these days
The thing is we had the Howard Wilko / David Oleary babes of Kewell, Harte, Woody, Smithy etc come through and prosper in 1st team
But these days our young uns are just sold by our current regime.
21 Sep 2026 11:02:05
Slight change of topic, this international break which has already been pointed out is ridiculously long, to justify three weeks out of the league's season is hard to do.
Even this early in the season there could be all sorts of consequences and impacts that that could hit teams with a negative or positive outcome.
Momentum shifts from teams that are doing well or bad, with four international games there could be a whole host of new injuries with certain players possibly trying to make an impact to their international careers and potentially overstretching their normal abilities.
Am I imagining too much from this or is it just me missing Leeds play when the season has only just got started ?
4
21 Sep 2026 12:06:36
As i said below, I think its a complete joke. No one is interested in these pointless, minor tournaments, or the friendlies scattered around. Players withdrawing with minor injuries shows their priorities.
Like you say, the impact that this may have on us in particular concerns me more than yesterday's draw!
Clubs need to unite against them. They offer no value to anyone other than the Associations!
1
21 Sep 2026 12:06:42
Both OP re your closing paragraph
Perhaps you can set us an OP Leeds quiz (say 3 questions) to entertain the troops.
2
21 Sep 2026 12:31:03
Ridiculous break. And as you say opti. Can have a dramatic affect on any club. Good or bad. Form. Injuries. Etc.
1
21 Sep 2026 12:47:59
I'll give you a quiz Baz.
Name your 'top Leeds United targets X1' of all time.
In other words, players we could/should have signed (or you wish we had signed) .
There's a rule though - you have to be 'fairly' realistic, in other words, although we would all have liked to sign a Messi or Mbappe, at the time we simply couldn't have afforded them.
Second rule - must be in a time period you remember (which for most of us extends to the 1960s: ( ( (
Keep it real (as they say!)
Good luck everyone.
2
21 Sep 2026 13:00:47
Hi Cleggy
Thats a good question
I will start off with the goalie and get back to you on the outfield players
Pat Jennings ( to sign in say 1967 from Spurs)
A great goalie who helped Spuds win Cups
Better than our keepers Sprake and Harvey imo
So defo Pat Jennings.

21 Sep 2026 13:45:59
Blackburn's Jack Walker money talked re huge wages etc
But I would have lurved Alan Shearer from Saints in summer 1992 ( instead he went to Blackburn for £3.3 million)
Instead of Leeds spending £2million on David Rocastle and £1 million on Scott Sellars we potentially could have used that £3 million to sign Shearer
Leeds United were League Champions and in the European Cup.we needed a long term replacement for Lee Chapman.
3
21 Sep 2026 14:17:09
Would Shearer have come to Leeds? We will never know, but he would have been some signing. We should have signed McAllister back from Coventry as O'Leary's team were just missing a midfield lock picker, and I am sure he would have walked back to Leeds to play in that team. As it was, Liverpool got him and won four cups.
5
21 Sep 2026 14:19:15
I always thought that had Cloughie survived he might have signed Shilton and Trevor Francis for us instead of Forest - Francis did say he wanted to play for us.
As did Bobby Moore's wife Tina. Reckoned Bobby wanted to come to us.
4
21 Sep 2026 14:59:13
Good shouts Feath and Cleggy
How about this one
In 1981/82 ill fated seez.instead of Leeds gaffer Allan Clarke spending a record £930K on winger Peter Barnes.
I wish Leeds signed striker Tony Woodcock from Cologne in summer 81 whom we were close to signing.we desperately needed strikers and goals!
2
21 Sep 2026 15:19:09
Yeh Bright just wanted to highlight what you had previously posted.
I think with Palmer grabbing the headlines this morning with his exclusion shows the importance or great lack of it for this tournament, it's quite clear that some players do not want to jeopardize their premiership league inclusion with the threat of a potential long term injury.
The question is, do we really need a nations league tournament ? and isn't their enough football already with domestic and European club football plus all the World and European Cup qualifiers and actual tournaments ?
It makes me think what other meaningless International tournaments FIFA will come up with next to line their pockets with even more of the filthy mulah.
Enjoy your quizzes for the next three weeks Baz. It's right up your street pal with all that Leeds United nostalgia.

Defo prefer a Leeds quiz OP.international football and breaks aint going away ole chap.
3
21 Sep 2026 17:08:25
Trying to sign Maradona in 87 I think. Ambitious.
2
21 Sep 2026 23:22:19
Let's start with a few I wish we'd never signed
Tomas Brolin, Seth Johnson, Robbie Fowler, JKA. Those we should've signed include Bobby Moore circa 1966, Alan Shearer when he went to Blackburn, Erling Haarland when he was with Molde aged 16.
Then there are those we did have but lost in Ridsdale's fire sale (too numerous to list them all) . Life as a Leeds Unted supporter is full of "if only's".
3
22 Sep 2026 02:14:32
Robbie Fowler 1 goal every 2 games for Leeds. he was good JR.
2
22 Sep 2026 12:35:55
Fowler was OK in his first season with us, but not in his second, but despite his form dropping off, he still got preferred over Robbie Keane.
1
22 Sep 2026 18:54:17
Fowler's goals got Leeds into Europe the following season, his scoring record for us was good as Baz says. Seth Johnson was the most ridiculous and damaging signing of that period. The list of bad signings must include Frank Strandli, what was that all about? Then we had numerous players in the Warnock, Mc Dermott, Rosler, Hockerday era's.
And don't forget umpteen awful loan signings, the Brazilian WC winner, the hopeless LB from Man U to name but two. God, it makes me depressed thinking about turning up to watch them all !
21 Sep 2026 08:33:44
I don't think it's too much to expect to beat palace at home. It's not over achieving. It doesn't mean we will qualify for Europe. Dress it up how you like. Don't run before you can walk etc etc.
on form we should have won. We didn't. We were rubbish. That's not acceptable. At home. V palace.
3
21 Sep 2026 08:57:45
I'm sure Arsenal expected to beat Brighton, and Forest to Coventry, But this is Football. We had an off day, it happens. As irritating as it is to not beat palace, we didn't play great but we still took a point from the game. Maybe we shouldn't bother playing Arsenal after the break and just give them the 3 points.
5
21 Sep 2026 08:59:50
We didn't lose either Aus, we are on an unbeaten run which not even Arsenal can brag about.
No games in the Premiership are a given, home or away. You are welcome to think differently.
2
21 Sep 2026 09:20:28
There's no way Arsenal thought Brighton away was a gimme. In saying that they definitely didn't expect a proper thumping!
1
21 Sep 2026 09:37:23
Credit where its due; Palace were very good vs what they've displayed so far in the EPL, and looked better still because we were off it. They still couldn't beat us tho! Unbeaten, sitting pretty in 5th, looking strong defensively.
My biggest concern, personally, is the impact this utterly ridiculous, brinking on scandalous, international break has on us!
2
21 Sep 2026 09:47:42
I'd rather just give Arsenal 3 points mez. Preserve our goal difference. There are hard home and away games. But I'm pretty sure everyone had this chalked as 3 points. Everyone. We got 1.
0
21 Sep 2026 09:58:58
Auz, hope never expect. Save you being disappointed!
3
21 Sep 2026 11:12:54
It was a disappointing afternoon, that's for sure. Unfortunately quite a few didn't turn up at all. Thankfully the defence did in the main.
I know after the Newcastle game, there was a lot of expectation, but Palace are no mugs and are a hard working solid team. They've picked up 3 trophies in the last 12 months.
In my view, the way we were playing [not], I was fully expecting a defeat and on another day, e. g. last season, that was exactly the game we would have lost.
Perversely, I think had their goal stood, we might have picked up in the last 30 minutes and still got a draw, had that been the case, the comments this morning might have been a bit different, even though it would still be 2 points dropped.
One our "esteemed" posters said we had to get 4 points from our two home games, we did that.
I expect us to be a lot better v Arsenal.
1
21 Sep 2026 13:13:54
I did indeed Ani say we needed and I expected to get ( minimum ) 4 points from the Newcastle and Palace games.
So all in all satisfactory.
1
21 Sep 2026 14:31:58
I just post on what I saw. Not really yesterday or tomorrow.
20 Sep 2026 16:47:05
Never mind "it's a point", that was diabolical. If we are to be serious contenders we have to be consistent. If we turn in performances like that, at home, against such opposition, what chance have we got to play in Europe?
5
20 Sep 2026 17:05:44
Contenders for what?
Aim is avoid relegation with more comfort than last year. Mid table is a good season for us.
7
20 Sep 2026 17:18:21
Canadawhite I have more ambition than just survival, otherwise what's the point?
3
20 Sep 2026 17:23:51
I'm with Canada
At the moment I still think focus on avoiding on relegation
Out net spend is minimal
The promoted teams look like they could
Be competitive
The teams who are struggling like spurs, palace and Fulham no doubt will get much better we shouldn't get carried away with the Newcastle win or too despondent with today's poor show.
4
20 Sep 2026 18:01:52
I have a lot of ambition but I'm also realistic.
I want to win every game but know we won't, accept reality and you won't be disappointed as often!
5
20 Sep 2026 18:27:50
We're fifth in the table and I think that's a reason to be happy. He sent on Bahoya and the kid was straight in there.
I did only come here for the moans though ;) MOT!
3
20 Sep 2026 18:51:54
There are some VERY uninspiring supporters on here! For them just being in the Premier League is enough, sorry, I remember us being semi finalists in Europe.
4
20 Sep 2026 20:31:15
Good post CJS and I empathise somewhat with your point of view.
And better still than DOL team. we had Billy Bremner's Leeds United being the real Champions of Europe. ( and yes, I know lads, it twas a long time ago now )
3
20 Sep 2026 20:34:39
Wake up and smell the coffee CJS.
Doesn't matter what you remember, in those days the playing field was a lot more level than it is now, we are playing up hill into the wind and are doing well.
All we can do is barrow in more soil every year to try and level things up but it will take a long time.
4
20 Sep 2026 20:47:14
Still very much of the view that mid table would be an excellent position for us.
Today shows so much. There are positives. Muha looked excellent I thought and Trafford too, thought Trafford only had one shot of note to really deal with. Apart from that free kick and disallowed goal they didn't create much clear cut.
Very few chances for Dom. One he could have stuck away.
I don't like that we didn't play well and it is two points dropped. But I do like that we were able to get something despite not playing well. Better teams would have beaten us today but even playing poorly we made ourselves hard to beat. Unbeaten in five, never conceded more than one in the other games and we've played two of the form setters in Brentford and Brighton. That start honestly gets a very solid 7.5-8/10 for me.
5
21 Sep 2026 07:00:36
Two draws against Brentford and Brighton and an emphatic win against Newcastle which delighted us all doesn't make us contenders for European football and certainly not the Premiership title !
Canada is right we haven't earned anything yet to deserve such claims it's totally ridiculous.
There is a very loose claim judging by our confident start and no loses that if we do continue on this trajectory there might be a European spot which is obtainable but to be making such claims this early in the season is a little fanciful I feel.
Of course dream and wish for great things to happen to our club this season but if it doesn't, don't be surprised and then hold the club responsible for not achieving such wild expectations.
That's what the media are already building us up for that suggesting that we might achieve European football this season knowing they can smash us down if things go the other way. I'm definitely am not going to be so gullible to fall for that.
All fixtures in this league are tough, there are no kind ones. For me, I'll be waiting until the end of this year to see how this season can pan out for us. A few injuries to key players could turn our good start into a very difficult one, that's football, nothing is a given.
3
21 Sep 2026 08:12:53
Most fans sti have a massive amount of ambition, but many of us also have patience and realism. We are building and it will take time.
1
21 Sep 2026 11:18:28
The "average" predicted finishing position from those who made at least one prediction is somewhere between 13th and 14th, so most here have realistic expectations and ambition.

21 Sep 2026 12:48:37
Wharton ran the show yesterday, best player on field, involved in everything.
Dan James & Brendan still being used highlights how our squad is still in need of improvement.
Both were so poor yesterday,so many fans around me were up in arms with their displays.
Overall we were very lucky to take a point
Will Farke ever give up on Baracus ?
Doesn't seem so.

But Chris.Wharton ran the show for 70 mins whilst BA and DJ werent even on pitch
Perhaps focus on our midfield trio that were on
pitch.Amps, AO and again especially Stach who has been woeful this season.

Yes Baz, Stach was poor, but the caveat I attach to him is he' has credit in bank
Where as the aforementioned duo have between them umpteen chances at showing us how poor they are, both were brought on to try change things, both failed miserably again.
How long more is this going to continue is my concern ?
Ao was excellent Monday night
Amps is crucial to our side, you know that yoursepf
I cannot attach any hope to the other duo who are just continually poor.

Stach is also coming back from a particularly nasty injury, which meant he didn't kick a ball at all during the break, also finding walking difficult, and at his own admission, a bit of a psychological block due to the positioning of it. He does have credit in the bank, for sure, but will also get back to his peak soon!
