I think our game v spuds should be seen as a free hit. We win then they are down. We lose still more points to play for. I'd throw the kitchen sink at them. I'd go 4-4-2 and pummel em from the off.

Totally agree, Aus! I'd even consider playing rush goalie for the last 15 of normal time, or "goalie when 'Ned'" as we used to call it!

01 May 2026 10:39:38
We win v Spuds (and Burnley) , and we are defo staying up, but they could still stay up too depending on how Wet Sham do in their remaining games.

As part of our Green Credentials, are we having a mass of Solar Panels incorporated into the new development?
Q - On a cold winter's night, who can be relied on to provide all the hot air?

I can think of a few peeps.

Baz, I am so tempted to state the obvious, but will resist!

Classic quote from the late great Eric Morecambe in today's Daily Telegraph
"I used to play football in my youth. Then my eyes went bad. That’s why I became a referee."

Man. Morecome and wise. Ma pa still kicking at 85 used to watch them all the time. I was allowed every now and then. But most of the time heard the theme tunes of
Virginian. Morecombe. Cilla. Bruce. Top of the pops. Match of the day and heaven forbid. Dixon of dock green.
From the stairs hoping and waiting to be called in to watch.

30 Apr 2026 17:09:31
Bruce, an absolute television entertainment legend, Aus.. Really liked the Generation Game.

30 Apr 2026 17:39:08
Yes, I used to tell the captains that, at the beginning of every game during the coin toss. It helped keep the mood a bit jovial, and also sent a warning that if players shouted at me, and did it repetitively, they would have to accept a present, in the form of a nice colored card. ..
Most times it worked. ..

But, in fairness to the Refs, they are being told (I know a couple of FIFA guys) to allow certain things to go, and if it's bad, VAR will catch it.

Looking at Arsenal's game yesterday, that was a clear penalty, but the VAR told the Ref that there was not enough contact to award it . Again, they are being told by those in charge what they should call and shouldn't, instead of letting them make the decision.

Really want to see how many get sent off, for a second offense, when they cover their mouths to talk to each other.

Sometimes it's a very lonely and thankless job.

Another match against manager-less opposition! What effect will it have on the players this time?

The players at Burnley reportedly liked Parker, so I hope the sacking has a negative impact on their performance tomorrow, especially as a fair few of them are supposedly leaving at the end of the season. A couple of early goals would do us the world of good.

30 Apr 2026 14:45:28
Bang em in. Ruin Spuds goal difference.

30 Apr 2026 16:29:59
Spurs a nice bit off us on that front, Aus, so at least we have that little cushion if it needs pumping.

Result tomorrow night will go a long way towards taking us out of it.

30 Apr 2026 17:16:32
It would not surprise me if Leeds were to lose in matches vs Spuds and Hammers away, and Brighton at home.

So, imo, this weekend.

Leeds simply must beat Burnley.
And Villa must beat Spuds.

Even then, Leeds still wouldn't be mathematically safe, but it would require Spuds to beat Leeds, Chelsea, and Everton, and stay up on goal difference.

30 Apr 2026 22:01:03
Spurs have a better goal difference than us right now, in effect.
To gain 6 pts on us and make goal difference relevant gives a minimum swing of 4 goals, making them better than us on the same points.
A win, first and foremost. A big one after that could make a difference.

01 May 2026 09:40:19
Their - 10, we - 7, so I can't understand your point, Canada.

01 May 2026 10:47:10
Chris, for goal difference to matter, we need to have the same number of points, correct?
We have 6 more points than them right now.
So, we lose 2 games, they win 2 games, we are on the same points.

In the best case scenario, we lose them both by 1 goal, we are then on -9. If they win both by just 1 goal, they are on -8, so have a better goal difference by the time we have the same points.
Make sense?

01 May 2026 13:39:39
We all know what an uplift any new manager will bring, even to a relegated one, as we all know only too well.
They are a good side, and we should not underestimate them; they will be looking to make their mark. Still say 2-1 to Leeds.

01 May 2026 14:07:04
Yes, but your assumption would mean we stop scoring, for them to catch up with us, hence 6 goals, something they are struggling to do, so my view is the points may be eaten up by them.

But surely we will score a few more, so once again pull away from them on GD, and ultimately it could be decided on that.

S.

01 May 2026 15:32:36
Obviously, you don't understand, Chris, that's OK, it's not going to be relevant anyway, as we will get the points we need!

01 May 2026 21:22:01
Well, of the 4-6 people in the group I showed it to, none of them did either, Canada, so I won't feel so bad.

01 May 2026 21:25:55
I actually never saw your other post till just now, had you explained that way 1stly, then I wouldn't have commented at all.

Anyways, all good here now.

30 Apr 2026 10:29:14
Parker leaves Burnley! Great timing. Whether we see an improvement in their performance Friday is doubtful; they are 20pts for a reason.

Agree3 Disagree0

30 Apr 2026 11:11:26
Very odd timing. Why not just go at the end of the season?

30 Apr 2026 11:18:53
Think it says they have someone already lined up, Dave?

Gerrard rumours.

30 Apr 2026 12:43:13
Craig Bellamy allegedly. Watch this space.

30 Apr 2026 13:10:55
Agreed, Dave, it seems a strange decision to me.

30 Apr 2026 14:46:18
Have to be bloody good to turn it around that quick.

29 Apr 2026 20:29:25
Whilst it's understandable that we are all nervous because we are not yet safe, there's one thing we need to remember.

Spurs and West Ham need to win their remaining matches and so far this season only the Hammers have strung back to back wins once.

Spurs have got Villa this weekend away from home and the Hammers have got Brentford followed by the Arsenal - all of those teams are going for Europe or the title.

That's one hell of an ask for both clubs - even if one of them manages it, it's highly unlikely that both of them will.

Relax guys, take a few deep breaths and all will be well. : )

Great post, Cleggy. Was going to post something very similar, whilst it's not surprising to doubt or be concerned with our own team's performance, it's what we naturally do, however, on the run in.
Put yourself in the Spuds fan base shoes.

They are third bottom of 20 in the form league; they will be lucky to get a single point from their remaining games, and that's against us.

Bournemouth away was a tough, tough fixture and we got a well earned point. I think we can definitely win away, and if we can't, they definitely cannot win the points needed to keep them up in my humble (personal) opinion.

29 Apr 2026 21:35:00
Right with you in having that perspective, Cleggy. It'll be reet! (Fingers still crossed tho!)

29 Apr 2026 22:49:15
Too true, Brighty. )

And you're correct, Class, that point against Bournemouth was hard fought, and shows that we've got real spirit. Have Spurs got the same? Not on the evidence of this year!

30 Apr 2026 10:38:57
My only fear is that Villa go into their match with one eye on their return Europa fixture. Hopefully it will not distract them too much.
They have a job to do!

30 Apr 2026 11:03:46
9 On the other hand, football doesn't always run to form, last week when Florists, Spuds and Sham all won whilst we only drew being a case in point. We've got 4 games left, 2 against relegation rivals, 1 against a team pushing for European qualification, and 1 against an already relegated team with nothing to lose and maybe a point to prove who've already beaten us once this season. If the same scenario were to play out this weekend, we'd be 16th, with Sham 1 point behind, and Spuds 3 points behind, both with home games against us still to come.

I'd rather be in our position than theirs, but it ain't over til it's over. I never like the words "must win game", but Friday night is definitely a "must not lose".

Better news that Spuds have now lost Simons and Solanke to injury, probably for the rest of the season.

30 Apr 2026 13:38:06
It's a funny old game, Jr.
