Baz, that's a bit knee-jerk, mate. What we actually have is a keeper we have been crying out for yonks, including you. We have a talent who will give the defence and team confidence. We have a top custodian between the sticks, and we should rejoice in that, not use it as a stick to bash people because we haven't signed a striker.

Given that our new arrivals are mainly defence, I'm wondering if this is part of a plan so that next year we focus on midfield and build on our defensive strength, and then the following year on attack. All the time, keeping within the spending rules (whatever they're called) . But I admit I know nothing.

We need to remain in the EPL for another 2 years to fulfil that plan, CJS. We now have a top 6 defence, but only a bottom 6 attack. Will we manage to win enough games to stay up? Who knows, but my nerves are on edge already, and we're only 2 games in.

Think there was a plan of sorts.

Trafford, Muharemovic, and Wilson were planned. Elvedi was 'planned' in the sense that if Bornauw left we needed a replacement lined up.

I think the other part of the plan was to be flexible and open to any late opportunities. Bard seems exactly that. Who gets a Ligue 1 starting left back in their prime for a £5m option? When you see that kind of deal made, it feels like a no brainer.



Hopefully we can do one or two more. Zirkzee doesn't have many suitors, so maybe we can lowball a loan there. I know it's the rivals over the Pennines, but I don't care. Some hits have come from there before.

Also looks like technically I was right that Woltemade was available on loan. Juventus are, however, paying 3.5m. loan fee and I accept we can't compete with them in this scenario.

BBC reporting that we're in for Melvin Bars who's a left back from Nice. A £1m loan with an option. I don't know a heck of a lot about him except that I used to sign him a lot on football manager whenever I was in the prem with Leeds because he was cheap and good on that game.

5/10 window, on the whole, we have more or less replaced departing players, with better quality, but only in defense and gk. Midfield and attack, only Wilson has been brought in. Our recruitment team is seriously not up to the standard required. All the other teams seem to be having no problem bringing players in, and at decent fees or loans. Very disappointing and depressing.
