Mateo Joseph what's everyone's opinion?
Is he good enough to score goals in EPL maybe not straight away but down the line. Or is he championship level at best as he's only scored 3 goals?
His all round game is good and in the youth leagues he looked a good finisher but as yet he hasn't hit the heights of his u21 days.
Personally I believe it's a system fit and there's a good chance he can become a top striker. Maybe a little like Solanke at Spurs?

Agree with you Cork, he has many attributes but not sure he is comfortable with the system which is predominantly wing based.
He hasn’t had many minutes to get in a rhythm to be fair and I think he would have benefited from a loan, but if Betis offer was true, and his Spanish caps, say there’s a player in there.

Unfortunately cork I’m not sure he is good enough. His work rate is good but that’s about it. I think we were all excited about him playing more this season but he hasn’t taken the opportunity. Let’s remember the champ defences are way worse than any he will face in prem. I’d possibly keep him for sub and cups but def not a starter. Have my doubts about piroe in prem but think he needs a chance at least.

I think Class maybe right, but why would they invest the time with him if they thought he wouldn’t fit in.
There’s definitely a player in him and is still very young I feel they will hold onto him and gradually mould him into that number nine we need.
Farke is a specialist with strikers and if anyone can coach him then he can.

Good player with potential but don’t think he is good enough for leeds. Think if he went Spain he’d progess beetter and maybe become a fully fledged international.

In short, I think he will come good, wherever he plays.

Again guys we are expecting a lot of a lad who is just 21 and is getting a first run in men's football.
Males can still be developing and growing into their early 20s.
Yes you get the odd one like a Rooney that's well developed or that outrageously talented that it makes no difference who or where they play.
I think Joseph has a bit of growing and developing to do. A yard of pace maybe.
He is doing it for Spain against lads the same age. So I think he probably do it in open age. He needs more time.

I agree with Ben somewhat, but he is currently not to standard, he does need time and would benefit from a loan spell, unfortunately we needed a striker now alongside Piroe and at this moment Matteo is not ready.

I think strikers tend to develop earlier than other positions. I like the kid but we can’t wait for him. We pay him to deliver. Simple.
07 Feb 2025 12:11:49
Hopefully he will be on the scoresheet against Millwall.

I think, like Ben alludes to, it’s more about growing as a man rather than as a striker, Aus.
Recall Gio being all arms and legs, and looking as tho he couldn’t control his feet, let alone the ball!

Yep. Remember that bright mate. Love Gio.
Just think Matts lacks killer instinct. As I said. Nothing against the guy. Hope he comes good. But would need to do that very quickly as piroe before him and if we get promoted you’d think 1 prob 2 new strikers in. So his time is now.

Speaking with an academy guy from Brighton Wednesday and there’s a lot of nervousness from the board around Gio at Brighton, he’s really struggling with the intensity of both the games and training schedules (very popular in the dressing room) but has his own training schedule at present, real concerns especially given the size of the transfer fee.
Apparently Ferguson’s injuries and Gio’s struggles were the reason young Evan Ferguson didn’t go out on loan sooner, Evan’s management team are very clear they want a permanent move, and consider him the best striker at the club, which is the popular consensus from the Brighton fan base.
Weird how some players and new managers don’t gel, like Rashford and Amorim.

I like Mateo and really hope he kicks on from the Cardiff goal. He’s not getting a lot of time when the way Solomon, james and Firpo are playing would create his kind of opportunities. He is also going to be learning a lot from the people he’s around. Play better in the second half of the season and I would imagine, if we are promoted a loan in the championship or Spain should happen.

Gio is still developing. He came to us a very gangly young lad. He bulked up and did alright for us in a very hectic season. I'm not surprised he is struggling this year.
But I agree a loan for joseph would be good for him. I think if we had more striking options he might have gone on loan.
Loans to other clubs are the only option the young players to get game time or experience now at most clubs.

Young and needs time to develop but potential definitely there. Spain wouldn't keep playing him at U21 if they didn't think he had a bright future.
07 Feb 2025 23:25:30
Agree Alf. You don't offer £10 million for a crap striker.
