So the rumours are that the boy Lineker is leaving match of the day. I always thought he was a good replacement for lynam Coleman and hill.
Will be sad to see him go. Probably the last of the real footballers that played on muddy pitches and didn't mind getting the odd kick.
Some of his stories of gazza and playing with Maradona will never be bettered.
I cannot imagine who will take over. All the rest of football seems very groomed and safe.
I would like Peter crouch bu I cannot see it.
Any thoughts?

Yep Lineker was a decent to pretty good MOTD presenter ; I also like Mark Chapman on MOTD2 so he would maybe be a worthy successor?

Imo smooth Des Lynam and the imperious Brian Moore the very BEST football presenters.

And

As for football match commentators . the best Brian Moore ( again ) Barry Davies, Hugh John, the iconic Kenneth Wolstenholme, Peter Jones ( Radio 2 ) , John Motson, Alan Parry, Martin Tyler, John Helm, Tony Gubba. my top 10.

2.) 12 Nov 2024 02:59:40
David Coleman too.

3.) 12 Nov 2024 07:12:51
WB The job vacancy is tailor made for Eni Aluko imo.

4.) 12 Nov 2024 07:21:20
Most people will want Chapman. Odds on it’s a woman, viewing figures will fall off a cliff, and the show will be dropped again eventually. He’s been great has Lineker. Still loved Des, Hill and Hansen and Lawro tho.

5.) 12 Nov 2024 08:37:15
I've been around long enough, seen and heard em all, Agree with Baz on this one. Brian Moore all day long.

6.) 12 Nov 2024 09:13:01
Absolutely 100 Revie The Great

Brian Moore la creme de la creme.

7.) 12 Nov 2024 09:16:38
Please George, don't even think it!

She's more useless behind the mic than she was on the pitch - and that's saying something!

8.) 12 Nov 2024 09:21:26
And if any of you have your thoughs/ opinions on your favourite world cup, i was 2yo when England won it so obviously can't remember it. but my top 3 would be.
1 Argentina 78
2 Italia 90
3 Spain 82

my worst would be usa 94, south africa 2010 and Qatar. in my opinion a bag of bob.

9.) 12 Nov 2024 09:38:55
Gabby possibly have a feeling they will have a lady presenter.

10.) 12 Nov 2024 10:27:06
The list is endless Clive Tyldesley, Gerry Sindstat, Alan Parry and my favourite, Elton Welsby.

11.) 12 Nov 2024 12:04:08
Good call Revie the GREAT

My fave World Cups

1st England 1966.nuff said

2nd Mexico 1970.the best ever team Brazil . an absolute joyyyy

3rd Mexico 1986.Lineker on fire. great apart from one thing

Quite extraordinary ( aka dodgy) that Mexico staged 2 World cups in spacd of 16 years.

{Ed007's Note - The '86 World Cup was meant to be being held in Columbia but FIFA extended the team count and Columbia didn't have the logistics/infrastructure/money to cope so announced they would no longer be hosting the tournament. There were a few other bids including the US who FIFA weren't getting on with so they gave it to Mexico simply because they were in the same region, they had hosted the tournament quite recently and they had shown they had everything in place to handle it.}

12.) 12 Nov 2024 12:07:25
. shout out also to

1978 Argentina. greatest atmosphere, great goals and matched . just no England

1990 Italy. Nessun Dorma . again great vibe tournament . Englands best golden chance to win 2nd World Cup.

13.) 12 Nov 2024 12:07:48
And the robot wars dude who’s name eludes me……?

14.) 12 Nov 2024 12:29:30
Cheers for info Ed007 re Columbia.

Bright : Jonathon Pearce I believe.

{Ed007's Note - No probs Baz????

15.) 12 Nov 2024 12:47:59
I watched every single game in 82.
90 my fav. Followed by Qatar. Sa the worst. 66 to young. 86 good.
Good info Ed ?.

{Ed007's Note - ????

16.) 12 Nov 2024 13:21:07
In response to your favourite World Cup Revie;

1st Mexico 70 (the first tournament I watched)

2nd Italia 90 (so nearly England)

3rd West Germany 74 (so nearly King Billy! )

17.) 12 Nov 2024 13:37:58
1982 all day long.
They didn’t win it but that Brazil team with Zico Eder Facao and Socrates were unbelievable. 90 a close second.

18.) 12 Nov 2024 13:58:10
David Coleman for me.
For only 1 piece of glorious commentary I will never forget :
CLARKE ONE - NIL
1972.

19.) 12 Nov 2024 16:11:41
Good call Tony.

20.) 12 Nov 2024 23:23:22
If we’re talking about World Cups then it’s Italia 90, mainly because I went to it. Unforgettable with so many emotions, I loved every minute of it.
We weren’t that good tbf and rode our luck, but it was an incredible journey and one I’ll never forget.

{Ed007's Note - USA '94, Diana Ross runs up in the opening ceremony to take a penalty, missed and the goal still broke - that was the death if international football.

07 Nov 2024 15:02:12
Latte lath or similar is what we want up front.
Someone who can create something out of nothing. Someone who's pace frightens the bejesus to of defenders.
Someone who will score all types of goals.
That's what we want.
Not much to ask!
We plucked yeboah out of nowhere.
Tony! We need a Tony!

WhiteBen

1.) 07 Nov 2024 16:28:51
Good post Ben agreed.

2.) 07 Nov 2024 17:31:25
And we have only needed him 3 years now, so think positively? Seriously though it's very clear to see now, Danny cannot break teams down tactically. Keep doing what he's always done.

3.) 07 Nov 2024 21:05:21
We’ve not had a true number 10 since Saiz. Pablo was superb but was a converted winger.

4.) 09 Nov 2024 09:53:26
It’s clear that this is one thing that we all agree on! We do, and have, lacked the benefits of a creative, incisive 10, and a clinical, but bullying, pacy 9. For all of Aaronsen’s energy, press ability and breaking pace, he does not have the creativity to split defences at the lift of his head. Nor do Piroe or MJ have the broad spectrum of qualities that make a top quality 9, despite both being quality in their own strength areas. Summer is gone, and January ain’t the time to acquire either of those. So Farke is left with the hand he’s been dealt, and has to make the best of it. Perhaps our financial predicament may have improved sufficiently to buy both next year for the PL!

07 Nov 2024 14:28:05
We are In need of a great goal scorer. At the moment we are relying on a scorer of great goals. Piroe playing again at number 9 showed we are in need.
We are in the same position as last season. We are lacking someone to lead the attack.
Last season our improvement came when Bamford came back to fitness.
But I'm not sure Bamford can be relied on again. Mj is a natural fit but I do not think he 100% ready for starting week on week.
And then Piroe who cannot seem to find any real consistency.
I did not think on the whole we played that badly last night. Again we created enough to win but got done by the sucker punch.
Maybe a real dm would have able to see that knock down coming as Ao and the others were ball watching from the header.
But a draw would have been a fair result on our performance.

WhiteBen

1.) 07 Nov 2024 16:05:48
We do need a striker but we should be giving more minutes to MJ who has shown real potential. At least until January give the lad the minutes.
Piroe is a wasted man on the pitch. His ball skills are terrible and gifts possession to the opposition 50% of the times he gets the ball.

2.) 07 Nov 2024 16:34:23
A good striker will be difficult to sign in Jan window.

3.) 08 Nov 2024 06:18:40
Patience should be given to Piroe, he is our only natural goal scorer, pretty much like Rodrigo who most wanted rid of until it started working for him.
Scoring against teams who only defend is not easy and chances become limited, Piroe is the more likely to find the net when chances are presented.

4.) 08 Nov 2024 08:17:15
The wording you use Ben is very smart, and makes total sense!
Piroe, for sure can score goals, but only certain types, in specific circumstances. I’d also prefer to see MJ given the start, as he offers a wider range of benefits to overall play. But I don’t see what goes on in training. DF does.

5.) 08 Nov 2024 10:18:16
The thing is bright is mj is not reliable enough to start for the rest of the season. He is young and his form dipped after a few starts.
He is still a season or two away from being a finished article. In my opinion.

6.) 08 Nov 2024 10:27:17
Op you are comparing an international striker that played and prove himself in a top league to a championship player.
Rodri was a good player who took a while to settle in a new country.
Piroe is a great finisher but maybe a little one dimensional.
We need a fire cracker up front piroe feels like damp squib.

7.) 08 Nov 2024 10:35:17
Well said Ben.

8.) 08 Nov 2024 12:04:13
He is proven in the Championship and is in the 20 plus club, all be it not with us.

9.) 08 Nov 2024 13:51:13
So was beckford op but he could not re-create his form after his move from Leeds.
It's just not there for piroe or mj at the moment. Piroe just can't find an effective place in the team. Yes he'll score goals against poor teams but against teams like Millwall the other night you need more.
And I think the fact he is struggling to fit in the team is affecting his confidence. A few times in recent games he has not taken a shot on where at the start of season he would have.
All this being said we only have piroe mj and Bamford and I cannot see that changing till the summer. So here's hoping one of them hits form soon.

10.) 09 Nov 2024 09:56:00
Yep Ben, you are totally spot on re MJ. I just hope we can keep him, keep him happy, until he is the finished article, because the potential there is tremendous.

25 Oct 2024 09:37:50
Right let's talk about all this nonsense "we should have won this many points by now".
Yes if it was mid season with a full settled side with no injuries I would be disappointed to have dropped these points. But its not. Its the start of the season.
We have new players and injuries plus it takes different players longer to get to speed and match fitness.
So I am happy with our position in the league. No team is running away with it.
Everyone is very beatable even the top teams as we have just played most of them.
But look at our run in! We play 4-5 of the top teams Feb time then after brom we have 10-11 games that look very tasty.
If we are 1st or 2nd going into that run
It could be we go up.

WhiteBen

1.) 25 Oct 2024 14:41:10
New players bedding in and injuries yes . but little to do with the very costly 2 points dropped against Sunderland from the hapless Mes clanger

A home defeat for Sunderland would have dented their ( currently over burgeoning) confidence too for next matches.

. promotion is a must . Leeds are faffing about with unnecessary dropped points . ie the horrendous Pompey nonsense match too.

2.) 25 Oct 2024 14:44:41
Didn’t read all your post Ben.
To be clear.
We are in the same boat as every other team.
We were at the begining are now and should be the best team in this league. From what I have seen. By far. We should and I still say will win by 10-15 points.
Stop making excuses. Or. Do you doubt our talent and manager and think 7th is ok?

3.) 25 Oct 2024 15:19:22
Not excuses aus just a educated statement on how this early season usually goes. Lots of very successful teams were slow starters.
When man u were winning titles season after season they started slowly. Fergie was written off a number of times. Then the end of season they won.
We have played a lot of the top teams now so we have a run of 4-5 very winnable games.
As farke said last season look at table after week 40-42.

4.) 25 Oct 2024 15:27:12
Baz we have dropped points but so do all teams. Mes made a mistake that cost us but the Watford keeper fumbled largies shot. So it usually evens itself out.

5.) 25 Oct 2024 15:37:32
Yep fair comment on Watford game Ben.

6.) 25 Oct 2024 18:24:16
Great op agree 100%.

19 Oct 2024 11:52:02
Might farke be tempted to rest aaronson for midweek?
He has played lots of games recently and travelling as well.
Not been at his best the last couple of matches.
And with dj and Solomon back?
Piroe was OK when he came on or will he try willy?

WhiteBen

1.) 19 Oct 2024 12:37:15
Ben: Piroe started.

2.) 19 Oct 2024 13:03:16
Rest arranson, Rothwell 10 Schmidt and Tanaka MF?

3.) 19 Oct 2024 13:07:10
So he did baz. Hazy memory. Friday pub after work!
He played ok as a 10 when he dropped back for joseph coming on.
He was obviously forgettable as a 9.
As you would say meh.

I agree class. With a proper dm in there we probably would have had more control. For all of Aos good midfield play he is not a good defender. Penalty today and lost marker for their 1st last week.
We just didn't get control of the midfield and didn't build any real pressure.
Piroe was poor again. Dj was quiet didn't have the service. Aaronson was ineffective and made the wrong choices too many times.
A draw maybe would of been fair.

I don't hold any grudge against mes as some leeds fans do . I think he is a young keeper who maybe make it at a top league side one day. I do think that this year as we have been so dominant he is not as exposed as say the Premiership years.
I think leeds could do better in that position and I think if we get back in the prem being more under pressure mes will struggle and we will need a alternative option.

Thought that was drifting toward a 2-2 draw. Yes leeroy the defending on both sides wasn't the best.
Again not the best performance but we are top of the league.

Sunderland looked very poor against Millwall. 20 or so good minutes then they were hanging on a bit.
Although Millwall did for us we played a lot better than Sunderland.

As farke in his press conference. Where does it stop. Re reffing games by video after the event is wrong. Unless an action has caused an injury and that was not spotted but going back over games is daft. If we don't have var in a game then we shouldn't be re reffing after the match.
