I think Farke has made a note in his interviews that certain players or just a player maybe showing signs of perhaps trying too hard. I believe that message Is probably directed in Calvert Lewin’s direction and maybe one or two others that I think of.
That would configure in the shots on goal which are not producing actual goals yet.
DCL in particular has a lot to prove in his personal career and is possibly guilty of not channeling his energy and focus in producing a positive outcome.
I think Farke is the perfect coach to get him on the right track sooner than later and I believe DCL is our main ticket to survival in this league with his goals.
Patience is required for him in particular and I believe he will come good.

Well said. Putting the ball in the net is the hardest part of football.

DCL has always been a bit of a 'streak' player who does miss chances relatively often.

Personally speaking I am in not slightest surprised that's he's fluffing chances, he's done this throughout his career, I was never enthused by this signing, so can't really blame him as we really should have seen what we were getting
And all this palava, oh he's getting into good positions ??
Wonder does that count. in goal scoring charts.

Letting him cook, as the kids say.
Once he settles in to the crowd and Leeds United atmosphere, I've no doubt he will knock them in for fun.

for every 5 good positions a striker gets into we get awarded a goal.

Chris, apart from the German at Newcastle, which mega buy striker from this window is scoring commensurate with their price tag. I'll give you a clue, hardly any. Aside from Haaland, everyone is firing blanks thus far this season. Look how many guilt-edge chances Salah missed at the weekend. I'm not sure of the factual stats, but anecdotally there seems to be a lot of misses this season.
Our top scorer has the same number of goals as Salah, Gakpo, Saka, Wellbeck, who are all proven strikers at this level and have always outscored DCL. Ollie Watkins? Jaidon Anthony has scored twice as many as those above and plenty around here were saying he wasn't good enough for us in the Championship, never mind the EPL.
DCL will come good, I am confident of that; he's getting into the positions. It's not as if there is any alternative in any event.

It's just another thing where I think it's too soon to decide either way. Given more match time, I think he will start to deliver goals. His all round play puts him way above our recent 9's, and even from his chances, I don't think JP would have more. It begs the question, based on Ani's point, what exactly is it that people want? Erling, Kane? because those are the only types who can deliver what's being demanded!

You can’t judge Calvert-Lewin yet in the very short period he’s been at Leeds. He’s been playing Everton’s style of football for some years now and for various coaches.
His adaption to fit in with us over night is perhaps a little premature. Every fan always wants a new player to hit the ground running and adapt seamlessly but sadly and more to the point realistically, this doesn’t happen very often.
To compare his time at Everton, with where he is now means very little in my opinion. The optics are very different in many aspects.
He knows what’s at stake here and for himself personally and I’m sure he fully understands the very heavy weight of expectation from the Leeds Utd fans.
He has got the experience of the Premiership already on his side along with the spotlight that this league can sometimes pick out individual players for good or bad.
For me he’s got the character to deal with it, for the ones that want to denounce him already then I think you are mistaken and will be proven wrong by the goals that he is very capable of scoring.

Agreed Ani on zero alternative, but you mention Salah, top scorer last season, so that point is a bit moot, because he will score rubbish loads
I have never rated Lewin, that's why I ain't surprised he's fluffing a fair few, furthermore I don't believe he will come good,
I would however attach a little caveat to that claim, surely our mid's and wingers should also be included also in the question of lack of goals thus far
Jack + Brendan could play for weeks without scoring, That's our reality, we won't be able to attract better players until we are established in this league.

Lots of strikers blanking
Look at fantasy football wingers or inside footballers often put score strikers and aside from a few not many out and out strikers any more
Was spurs top scorer own goals before Saturday? That was definatly true for someone o heard it on motd.
As for dcl my mate who is Everton season ticket holder loves him. Said great player who is bit if a confidence player but in his day unplayable.

DCL hasn’t got in to double figures since 20/ 21 season.
I can’t see it happening again this season unfortunately. However if he stays relatively fit he could still pick us up points by scoring match winning goals in a few games. If he were to score say 8 league goals it’s quite possible six of those could be match winning goals giving us 18 points.
Maybe I’m just trying to be positive because he was a a very underwhelming signing?

Farke is right about DCL (and others) trying too hard. More than one of his efforts in recent games gave me the impression that he was concentrating too much on hitting the target, and ending up with a pat a cake shot that was easy for the goalie. He needs to sometimes just put his laces through it and risk missing the goal, but maybe work the keeper harder and even if it's saved someone might score from the rebound like Okafor did on Saturday.
07 Oct 2025 06:41:37
You’re right JR, I also think Farke believes he can coach DCL into a better finisher, probably needs to get back to the basics and try not to look like a goal scorer with finesse.
Basically he needs to be more of a beast than a ballerina.
He definitely has the goal scorers instinct as more often than not he knows where to position himself, equally it’s his instincts that need to get the ball in the net and not his mind.

He'll get double digits this season i reckon. And more if he stays fit. His aerial threat alone can deliver that. Plus, that threat, and the defensive focus on him, will also create the space for our raft of 50pence heads!
07 Oct 2025 14:26:58
Bright, I reckon Joe Rodon should wear one of those John McEnroe style thick headbands, might take the edge off his angled bonce.
07 Oct 2025 16:38:56
i would estimate around 10 goals for DCL this season if he stays fit which I would take right now given the choice.
07 Oct 2025 17:25:55
Was it Steve Foster at Luton who always wore a massive headband too, back in the 80's?
07 Oct 2025 18:52:45
? Yes you are right Bright. I remember them beating Arsenal in the league cup final and Foster was the Luton captain. Proper 80’s style, permed hair and headband, not sure he had the Graeme Souness tosh though ?.
08 Oct 2025 07:33:37
Indeed! Back in the day when cup finals were broadcast on both main channels, and anyone who liked football watched it all day, year in year out, irrespective of the teams in the final! Good times!
