Been some great posts on what constitutes a legend for our magnificent side, really liked 1970’s definition and agree that Legrnd is often applied to someone who surprises you with crisps!

Legends can only be assigned to a very, specific group and is measurable and validated over the test of time.

Everyone with anything to do with our club will reference Billy…. and the maybe another handful until the err ins increase.

I agree with Baz that Pablo was a magical mercurial player but may not stand the test of time as did not play at the highest level for us, not his fault just Father Time caught up with him.

I also think adoration for players passed and present is conditioned by what that player meant to you at the time.

Loved Batty from his very first game when I believe he won MOM?

I loved Ian Baird for his effort and tenacity it seemed he left everything on the park, I like Coops for his integrity, humility and for the part however small he played in the Bielsa days.

For my own part I think other than 5/ 6 players in Leeds United history to date, there have been several wonderful, exciting magical hardworking honest players but only these very few legends will stand the test of time.

But it’s all about differing opinions I’m sure berm would include KP ?.

Interesting post Class

But 5 or 6 Legends only?

That's a way too low figure

The Revie era alone has 15 or more.

Apologies Baz, I had assumed “in my opinion “constituted my own personal view, silly me, I stand corrected, thanks for clarifying ?.

You are very welcome Class ?.

But in all seriousness if you were say 20 years older Class and so had actually experienced, witnessed and lived through the long golden Revie era

maybe a tad presumptuous of me but I believe your figure Class would indeed be mote like 20 plus LUFC Legends

You younguns make me smile ?.

Crikey longtime since called a young gun Baz ? but I see your point, if you have actually watched the Revie era, perspective would be different I’m sure.

Just two among many I could mention Paul Reaney is a legend as included in his many attributes he kept Best in his back pocket.
Jack Charlton for me another not given fully justified credit but a legend.

anyone aiming to be just right for legend status needs to meet Bazilocks 4 point checklist. c'mon you should all know that by now!

Hello can one or all of you look up the meaning of the word legend.
It does not mean best or most significant or most liked.
If you don't know the real meaning then that is ironic!

Yep Best himself stated Reaney was his toughest, most tenacious opponent.

Mick Jones another LUFC Legend fave of mine . underrated by some but certainly cherished by the Don.

Call it like Football Manager where they have three categories: Legends, Icons and Favoured Personnel, the list below is what it has on all (not my personal) , in no particular order

Legends: Gordan Strachan, Marcelo Bielsa, Peter Lorimer, Eddie Gray, Howard Wilkinson, Jack Charlton, Norman Hunter, Gary Speed, Lucas Radebe, John Charles, Don Revie, Billy Bremner, Allan Clarke, Paul Madeley, David Batty

Icons: Gary Mcallister, Pablo Hernandez, Gary Kelly, Mark Viduka, Nigel Martyn, Vinnie Jones, Tony Yeboah.

Favoured Personnel: Andy Hughes, Raphinha, Mateusz Klich, Stuart Dallas, Liam Cooper, Bobby Collins, Luke Ayling, Gaetano Berardi, Jermaine Beckford, Ian Harte, Dominic Matteo.

There's a few naturally that would argue that should feature and don't at all or are too high or too low (Reaney should feature) - before my time) ? Wouldn't mind seeing Paddy Kisnorbo and Kalvin under 'favoured personnel' if we used the FM metrics. I'd probably downgrade Batty from legend to Icon, and Jones from Icon to favoured personnel, and promote Martyn from Icon to Legend but that's just me. Nice to see the FM metric doesn't just do recents or even the 70s - you see representation from Collins and Charles from even earlier - nice to see.
