Alf - so was I, and the game v Blackpool was a decent start, albeit against a Champ side, with the goal and assist, and assist that would have been for the very harshly disallowed Joffy strike showed decent potential offensively. Obviously there were still the ‘square on’ defensive issues, but these could maybe have been focused on with further individual training once the overall team structure and patterns were more collectively ingrained. In a way, at the start of this team structure stuff it’s helpful to the DMs and CBs to have more opportunities to need to cover across, as in-season, if the system work as it appears it’s intended to, with the LB and RB providing much of the width, there will likely be times when the passes to them are cut out and they are therefore out of position if the opposition immediately counterattack and, by intention within the system, the DMs and CBs will be required to cover across.
