I see Schmidt is getting slated everywhere. Yes it wasn’t an impressive performance, with the shortcomings most obvious defensively as there were some decent touches going forward.
What none of the reviewers took account of, or at least didn’t mention, was that he’s missed a significant amount of preseason through injury - was this his first preseason game, so he’s obviously way short of match fitness. Also consider that he (and the Club) expect him to get a move away - he probably wouldn’t have played today if Bogle had been fit. Had he sprinted back to put in a tackles on their winger (as he is usually actually capable of doing) his lack of fitness could well have resulted in a hamstring strain - which wouldn’t have been in anyones interest.
So let’s not all blindly jump on the Schmidt is rubbish bandwagon. Hopefully he gets his loan move away and a chance to build up his game time, and then maybe prove what he’s capable of. If it’s a loan move, we could possibly see him involved here next season.

Watched Schmidt when he got a start against Millwall at church in the cup game wasn't up to speed better off as a sub. maybe a loan could bring him on Clue?

Fully agree Clue I have continually said he has not been given a chance and after all he is an international player, don't blame him for wanting a move as someone obviously doesn't get on with him or the other way around but to jump on his back now is ridiculous.

Fitness was a big factor in his performance. In truth he was done after 20 minutes, but to be fair to him he kept going [and trying hard].

Come on Oldbri, he only became a full international this year and there is no way that was because of his performances as he played 70 odd minutes all season I believe.
He's simply shown nothing to suggest he's good enough, but he's also not had a run of games which can make a difference.
A loan makes sense, but ideally with a commitment to buy.

Canada - I strongly suspect his being picked for the Swiss squad as on the basis of form he was showing for St Gallen the season before he came to us, and the start of last season before we signed him. They’d clearly decided he was worth a look, and then evidently felt he showed enough in training with their squad to be given a start v N Ireland and again in the 4-0 win v USMNT.
