Things seem to be a bit more upbeat over the last 24 hours with Longstaff coming in and the strong possibility of Strach as well.
Rumours of Paixo and maybe a striker.
Elephant in the room. Where is the new keeper? Targets keep dropping off. A top rate keeper gains you quite a few points during the season. Looking back over last year we might have had nearer 110 points rather than 100 if their hadn't been so many handling errors and bad decision making.

According to Sky we're not in as much as a rush for keeper as they supposedly don't need as much time to bed in

Personally I'd like them to have as much time as poss to gel with the defence.

Agreed Dunelm.

Don’t forget average to poor defending, it’s why we have made defenders a priority in this summer’s transfer window. To easy and a very revolving repetitive narrative to say it’s all Meslier’s fault for losing a mass of points last season.
A ill equipped defense makes for a keeper low in confidence.

18 Jul 2025 00:42:39
Think you are on your own with that opinion. The defense made mistakes. All players do. Mez has to own his.

18 Jul 2025 01:42:06
Utter tosh OP. Leeds had the least chances against last season and you say we had an ill equipped defense.
Mezz major at fault for numerous goals and was definitely the standout culprit imo. Unless you reckon Rodon or Struick made multiple errors leading to goals? Maybe Bogle? Must have been Firpo.,
Cmon give it a rest with continuous Messlier not to blame for anything attitude and amazingly blame the defense for his low confidence and poor keeping.
Apologies if I’ve come across harsh.

18 Jul 2025 05:59:52
Yes I am very much on my own in my opinion because I’m not a sheep. Bogle and Firpo were often caught out higher up the pitch when the ball was lost to the opposition with neither of them with the pace to get back and defend. We play like that in the Premiership we will get murdered and you can stick whichever goalie you like in the net and he’ll be exposed, as much as Meslier has always been. Even when it was in the Premiership.
I’ll stick with my opinion Cork, even if others like you think it’s tosh.

18 Jul 2025 07:13:10
I also don’t rate Rodon, he looks competent in the Championship but I don’t think he’ll look so impressive in the Premiership. Struijk I like but he still hasn’t reached his potential. We definitely needed bolstering in our defense, so yes our defense was very average for the Championship and we would’ve been eaten alive with that same defense in the Premiership.
Weak defense = a low confident GK.

Come on OP, Sunderland away, Hull away, Swansea at home were absolute howlers. My own personal opinion on Meslier is he needs a move away to rebuild his career and confidence. I wouldn't disagree that he can become a top keeper, but staying at Leeds isn't the right decision for him.

18 Jul 2025 09:06:19
Got to disagree with you OP and others on Leeds Forums Meslier is a liability.
He bottled it in the prem last time had to be taken out of the firing line. same last season!
Needs moving on!

18 Jul 2025 09:09:32
Agree with you about Rodon but don’t think he will be dropped for beginning of the season. Maybe later.
Bogle and firpo were encouraged to go forward rather than defend so they were always likely to get caught out. Mez has a tiny little area to command and simple things like correct positioning catching and kicking to a team mate. He does none of those.

18 Jul 2025 09:21:19
Well said Feath.
Cannot command the box
Flaps @ balls like a half shot duck
Kicking is shocking could go on!

OP - I admire your defence of Meslier, as I also don’t tend not to like narratives of derision towards individuals or organizations, and like to examine the basis of such narratives. I also tend to agree with you on much of what happens at our Club. However, on this occasion I find myself disagreeing with your argument. All defences and individual defenders make some mistakes from time to time but, as Corky said, overall last season we had the least chances against.

Yes, the Club is now bolstering the defence, but that is largely in replacing our third and fourth choice CB of last season, Wöber and Debayo, one of whom was injured most of the season and the other of whom wasn’t really of Championship standard and thankfully barely played either, and Firpo, who wasn’t up to much on the Prem last time but fine for the Championship. Yes, both he and Bogle were caught up field on the counter, but that was mainly due to Farke’s tactics, with the DM’s covering behind.

I agree with Feath that Meslier could yet become a top keeper and needs a fresh start elsewhere to help him achieve that. Yes, he probably is still lacking in confidence, but more likely due to the ghosts of the last two Prem seasons when the defence was truly chaotic. Being around our Club and some of the players who were involved in those times probably hasn’t helped him erase those memories.

Like you, I do have doubts about Rodon for the Prem but, bar the first few games, he was largely very sound. The new CB recruits look to be of a standard good enough for the Prem, and it’ll be interesting to see how they, Rodon and Struijk develop during preseason and then as the season unfolds, and how Farke chooses to use them.

Spot on Clue.

Don’t want to come across as bashing anyone, however OP I can’t understand any defence of the hologram in goal.
He single handed cost us around 9-12 points.
Sunderland away, his fault -2
Hull away, his fault -2
Swansea, his fault -2
Portsmouth, his fault -2
Preston his error -2

The list goes on.
He needs a change as much as we do.

You’re all missing the point what I’m trying to make, Meslier is a keeper who has worked his net through Marcelo’s period, which let’s face it was heavy metal attack football, he’s always had a non existent defense in front of him.
The mistakes that has been made perhaps more recently are born out of confidence issues whereby he’s had his goal pummeled by the opposition, especially from our previous period in the Premiership.
Fans get on his back which lowers his confidence even further.
I can see Meslier moving onto another club and being a sensation.
Leeds fans have already decided his future sadly.
