It’s very different times now Whitey, there’s very little if any loyalty from modern professional players, conversely clubs view their players as little more than commodities, to be bought and traded, more akin to a race horse trainer really.

Harrison, irrespective if people like him or not, has probably been a net positive for the club given his contributions to our promotion and retaining epl status.

Not sure anyone knows the actual loan details although as a minimum, I would believe Everton as an epl side would be paying all of his salary, money which we are then able to reinvest in the likes of Joe Rothwell, Kristensen, Wober, Mackennie etc are probably firmly in the deficit column but it’s all horse trading and about balancing net profits with success.

Players like Archie Gray and Cree gave us huge profits in which to avert any potential PSR issues where as Rutter was probably nearer break even, after transfer, add ons and high salary.

This is why AO is thought to be a potential flight risk, he’s a fantastic footballer but conversely the club would be very tempted to sell given sizeable profits to be made on him whatever PR guff they would feed us for selling if it happened.

When you think Cree and more lately Archie cannot get regular first team football it demonstrates the stratospheric gap between Championship and EPL.

It used to wind me up, now I support the side (Side before self) as a whole, as it’s all very transient from both players and the clubs.

Had there ever been loyalty from players? Or clubs for that matter?

Yes money has gone mad and transfers are more frequent but was loyalty ever there?

Allan Clarke had four clubs when leeds come calling he didn’t show loyalty to lecister. Mick jones played 150 odd games when he dropped sheff utd for there Yorkshire rivals. Goes other way as well the don was quick to drop Albert johanssen when he no longer served a propose and Eddie grey took his place as did sergeant Wilko when batty and Mcallister meant vinnie Jones had no place at leeds. Then batty and speed moved on when time was right, with speed saying his best times as a footballer was at Newcastle and not leeds!

End of the day we the fans are the only ones loyal to our club through thick and thin

To everyone else it’s just a job/ business and rightly so

One club players or players picking clubs over trophy’s (like shearer are very very rare) and even the one club players are often because it’s a good fit like giggs being the best player but also playing for the best team or le tis not wanting to push himself in case it didn’t work out

If things went bad at your job and someone offered you a better deal wouldn’t you jump ship? It is understandable in my opinion.

23 Mar 2025 16:14:25
Class thank you for the information, I understand about loyalty or if other offers come in, but we paid millions for Harrison he them jump ship because he didn’t want to play in the championship, it’s ok for Everton to pay his wages in full but what do we get in terms of the financial lay out in buying him, if as he is doing will be free agent 3 years time and we get nothing can’t be right there should be some money coming back to us not just the benefit of not paying him any wages. One way ticket by the sounds of it.

Leicester offered £20 million for JH in Jan 2023

instead Uncle Vic and others within Leeds offered him a 5 year 90 K a week deal with R clauses to a heavily R threatened LUFC

Its not nearly as bad as the JKA red flag fiasco deal though.

23 Mar 2025 17:29:20
Not many at that time thought it was good business to get rid of him at that price tho did they Baz? Pretty sure we were both among them, so the uncle Vic rhetoric doesn’t really fit here.

23 Mar 2025 17:31:03
So Baz we get nothing for the fee we paid, nothing for him when the contract ends no sell on fee mad no wonder footballs in a mess??‍♂️.

23 Mar 2025 17:44:09
Very true Baz, but JKA aside (unforgivable) I recall it was our current owners who stopped the sale of JH at eleventh hour, and there have been some very astute signings along the way for very little money, Cree, Struick, Gray (s) Gelhardt, Greenwood…you can get away with it more outside the EPL, but very different financial strategy required to stay up in the EPL.

23 Mar 2025 17:50:44
Thank you to all Class, Baz, Bright, Brem. For you input on the about.

23 Mar 2025 18:02:38
I rated JH for Leeds Brighty in the EPL but even I would have baulked at the exorbitant risky conditions it took to get JH to sign a new contract

. so I would have taken the £20 million.

Gary Kelly and Radebe two players who stayed loyal to Leeds United. Bermo correct though in what he says.
Players have too much power these days but they’d probably disagree?

24 Mar 2025 20:33:16
Great call cork on radebe and Kelly were both loyal and great servants to the club but they are execptions to the rule sadly in my time as a leeds fan I can not think of ten players loyal to the badge sadly. I know a lot of professional footballers and it is a job not a loyal passion. Like most jobs I guess we fans are loyal but can expect the same elsewhere.

26 Mar 2025 06:31:39
And yet Baz, this season you defend him so energetically and supported his return, but would’ve flogged him him for less than we invested in him? Which at the time you didn’t agree with? Thanks again Felipe Felope.

26 Mar 2025 11:46:44
Bright

During posts this season I primarily defended his very good Leeds Utd record 2018 to 2023.certain peeps on here dismissive of it

JH would still do a job for Leeds in Champo or EPL. but I don't agree that Orta should have given him a whopping OTT 90K a week 5 year contract . and he has regressed and lost confidence at Everton in 1.5 seasons of Dycheball.

The £20 million offer from Leicster looks even fairer/ better now.
