Only watched the highlights as travelling from a weekend away with Mrs Class.

Thought it was a good result against a very spirited Harrogate side, I was at the Crawley game when we genuinely didn’t give a toss and were an embarrassment that day.

Solomon absolute class, as OP said, if we could buy him, wow, what a player, wonder if he could become in time, our elusive missing 10?

Anyhoo, bumped into a minibus of very happy Plymouth supporters in Taunton services after their shock FA cup win at Brentford obviously good to chat.

They were neutral about Rooney, said they have no squad at all past their first choice 11 sold their best player, their keeper Cooper to Blunts and their next best player Whittaker just returned from injury and scored the winner, but that Rooney never once had their full team to pick from and generally very positive about him living down there out in the community.

They don’t particularly rate Gyabi (one guy really liked him) but majority said we can have him back as goes missing in games too often, they laughed uncontrollably for a good five minutes when I said we had paid £4million for him, one guy said that’s more than their whole team cost, that gave me some perspective.

ALL agreed we were the best team in the division or they had seen and were grateful it had only been 3-0 at ER.

All rated Farke, ALL said we would be promoted as champions but did add quite vociferously but so you bloody should with the money and playing squad you have’, most common reason they thought we would go up, we have Piroe a proven quality goalscorer.

Most thought they would be relegated this season unless they get reinforcements in, but all said it don’t matter you still got to support your team.

Great bunch of lads and great to get an opponents perspective.

And yes, me being with Nrs Class probably prevented a different response to oh you’re a Leeds supporter are you.

I’ve read recently, don’t know if the source is good or not but Spurs stance is not rigid on Solomon and it’s possible for negotiation in the summer.

12 Jan 2025 12:08:32
Good post class. Informative.

12 Jan 2025 13:15:12
Great post Class, far better to hear proper fans views first hand than the usual journalistic clap trap!

12 Jan 2025 13:24:15
Gyabi looked a decent prospect when he came into the youth team.
But when I've seen in in the first team or with Plymouth he is off the pace.
With Solomon I would like to see him complete a full season unscathed until we think about signing.
He is showing his quality now he is fit but do we think he is back to his prem best?

12 Jan 2025 22:25:53
If we do get promoted, and don’t buy Solomon, we’ll have to spend a hell of a lot to stay up, as we only have one premier league player in Tanaka. Our defence is just about good enough for the championship, but would get battered in the prem. The only reason we don’t concede many is because most teams don’t attack us. Rodon and Struik and Meslier are very lucky to be in a team that has to do very little defending.

12 Jan 2025 23:01:22
Agree white re very little defending. Against prem that defense would get pounded.

13 Jan 2025 02:08:20
Good and very fair post White Danum

IF Leeds do get promoted they are going to need a whole raft of new players to compete/ survive

Not just 3 or 4 as some very naively believe.

13 Jan 2025 06:42:38
Danum Disagree about EPL ready players. Here's my take.

Imo what I write below correct way to assess. Low stands for bottom 6, mid mid-table.

Rodon low EPL class
Struick low rising to mid EPL class
Bogle low EPL class

Tanaka mid EPL class
Amps mid EPL class
Gruev low EPL class

James low rising to mid EPL class
Solomon mid EPL class
Gnonto potentially low EPL class
Largie potentially low EPL class
Baracus potentially low EPL class

That's 11. One of them not even our player so technically 10. Means upon ascension as previously posted you need minimum 7 EPL players of the mid-table bracket in order to elude relegation.

GK, pair of fullbacks, silky CD, CAM and 2 CFs. Sadly that's going to cost in the region of £140M. AIMO.

13 Jan 2025 07:18:29
Georgie its a fair post from you .

yes the ( at least) 7 EPL mid table bracket
( inc the spine of a team GK CD CM CAM CF) absolutely essential.

13 Jan 2025 07:39:34
Nice to see a serious post from George. I agree with the assessment of the squad with the exception of BA who I don't think is an EPL player at all. Mid level champ is his limit.

13 Jan 2025 08:38:16
BA currently Leeds 2nd highest scorer this season though. so he definitely is better than mid table Champo.

13 Jan 2025 09:54:04
A team with better quality than you have assessed George would not even be in the Championship.
I’m sure we will invest in new players if promoted, that is without doubt. What I don’t see is us doing is buying about ten mid Premiership quality players. PSR will put the brakes on that kind of spending. We wouldn’t even have that kind of money in the first place.
Most promoted Championship clubs struggle badly in the Premiership, especially with the tightening of the profit and sustainability rules, we will be no different.

Our recruitment will have to be outstanding and it won’t be quantity but more quality.

13 Jan 2025 10:43:34
Alf That's why I posted Baracus was "potentially". Let's not forget he's a decent presser due to his athletic stamina which even Klopp praised. He's definitely improved and with further good coaching I think he could hit a low EPL class ceiling. He's certainly doing better than expected and he's top of the Championship right now!

13 Jan 2025 10:49:55
OP Agreed. Didn't say 10 but 7. We could survive with 6 only but chances fade to virtually zero with 5 or less. There are foreign bargains to be had such as Ao as an example. The financial key is probably to maximize sell value of what will become the fringe players giving us more spending power plus we can't afford any recruitment mistakes (?) .

13 Jan 2025 12:19:33
Slick recruitment is paramount and as you rightly point out it will be the quality and price of a player like Tanaka.
Ipswich and Southampton have already spent over 100Mil in the summer and are about to spend even more in this window. I personally think their recruiting has been poor and both will suffer the consequences of that in my opinion.

I do agree with Farke’s point of unity with a small group of players but as we all know, multiple injuries to key players can jeopardize your season as it happened with Bielsa in the Prem.

But that’s the business of football, there are never any guarantees whether you play it safe or not, some gambles come good and others don’t.
Whether people like it or not there is still a lot of riding on your luck.
That’s football.

13 Jan 2025 14:17:09
Havent you read the memo yet OP. Gonner Ipswich are likely stayin up.

13 Jan 2025 21:17:06
Sorry Baz but at the end of this season they will only be seen as the plucky team that got relegated, along with Southampton and cheating Leicester.
