So the rumours are that the boy Lineker is leaving match of the day. I always thought he was a good replacement for lynam Coleman and hill.
Will be sad to see him go. Probably the last of the real footballers that played on muddy pitches and didn't mind getting the odd kick.
Some of his stories of gazza and playing with Maradona will never be bettered.
I cannot imagine who will take over. All the rest of football seems very groomed and safe.
I would like Peter crouch bu I cannot see it.
Any thoughts?

Yep Lineker was a decent to pretty good MOTD presenter ; I also like Mark Chapman on MOTD2 so he would maybe be a worthy successor?

Imo smooth Des Lynam and the imperious Brian Moore the very BEST football presenters.

And

As for football match commentators . the best Brian Moore ( again ) Barry Davies, Hugh John, the iconic Kenneth Wolstenholme, Peter Jones ( Radio 2 ) , John Motson, Alan Parry, Martin Tyler, John Helm, Tony Gubba. my top 10.

12 Nov 2024 02:59:40
David Coleman too.

WB The job vacancy is tailor made for Eni Aluko imo.

Most people will want Chapman. Odds on it’s a woman, viewing figures will fall off a cliff, and the show will be dropped again eventually. He’s been great has Lineker. Still loved Des, Hill and Hansen and Lawro tho.

Absolutely 100 Revie The Great

Brian Moore la creme de la creme.

12 Nov 2024 09:16:38
Please George, don't even think it!

She's more useless behind the mic than she was on the pitch - and that's saying something!

12 Nov 2024 09:21:26
And if any of you have your thoughs/ opinions on your favourite world cup, i was 2yo when England won it so obviously can't remember it. but my top 3 would be.
1 Argentina 78
2 Italia 90
3 Spain 82

my worst would be usa 94, south africa 2010 and Qatar. in my opinion a bag of bob.

12 Nov 2024 09:38:55
Gabby possibly have a feeling they will have a lady presenter.

12 Nov 2024 10:27:06
The list is endless Clive Tyldesley, Gerry Sindstat, Alan Parry and my favourite, Elton Welsby.

Good call Revie the GREAT

My fave World Cups

1st England 1966.nuff said

2nd Mexico 1970.the best ever team Brazil . an absolute joyyyy

3rd Mexico 1986.Lineker on fire. great apart from one thing

Quite extraordinary ( aka dodgy) that Mexico staged 2 World cups in spacd of 16 years.

{Ed007's Note - The '86 World Cup was meant to be being held in Columbia but FIFA extended the team count and Columbia didn't have the logistics/infrastructure/money to cope so announced they would no longer be hosting the tournament. There were a few other bids including the US who FIFA weren't getting on with so they gave it to Mexico simply because they were in the same region, they had hosted the tournament quite recently and they had shown they had everything in place to handle it.}

. shout out also to

1978 Argentina. greatest atmosphere, great goals and matched . just no England

1990 Italy. Nessun Dorma . again great vibe tournament . Englands best golden chance to win 2nd World Cup.

In response to your favourite World Cup Revie;

1st Mexico 70 (the first tournament I watched)

2nd Italia 90 (so nearly England)

3rd West Germany 74 (so nearly King Billy! )

12 Nov 2024 13:37:58
1982 all day long.
They didn’t win it but that Brazil team with Zico Eder Facao and Socrates were unbelievable. 90 a close second.

12 Nov 2024 13:58:10
David Coleman for me.
For only 1 piece of glorious commentary I will never forget :
CLARKE ONE - NIL
1972.

12 Nov 2024 16:11:41
Good call Tony.

12 Nov 2024 23:23:22
If we’re talking about World Cups then it’s Italia 90, mainly because I went to it. Unforgettable with so many emotions, I loved every minute of it.
We weren’t that good tbf and rode our luck, but it was an incredible journey and one I’ll never forget.

{Ed007's Note - USA '94, Diana Ross runs up in the opening ceremony to take a penalty, missed and the goal still broke - that was the death if international football.
