Prefer Schmidt for Firpo if Firpo can't play. Don't really rate 2024 Byram tbh. But other than that, this would be the team I'd go for if Struijk is out.

27 Sep 2024 04:21:40
That will likely be starting 11 . except maybe our loanee from Saints instead of Tanaka.

Happy to see schmid. Hoping it’s AO.

Good line up. 100% agree with amps on the backline give it a chance and see if it improves Rodon. If not, give him a few matches off. He's a bit of a hero sometimes and plays with injuries. Force him to take a break.

I recognise others especially Dill have already cited the importance of Tanaka to our team, and I fully agree that if he gets a good run in the team, he will solve a number of issues.

Think he will increase tempo in our play, he will break the lines more than Amps or Gruev and he always looks to play forwards, and he has a goal in him.

The boy could be our signing of the season and I think he could also replace BA in that hybrid 8/ 10 position.

Curious why Farkey tried a back three several times in preseason, which was successful and made us more dynamic (Sevilla) but hasn’t revisited it since?

Think George has highlighted this previously (especially for home games) a three would enable us to get AO in the side but still with our two DM, s shield.

Again, in preseason Rothwell looked to be the answer on set piece delivery but we haven’t been able to involve him to date which seems a waste, but hopefully he will also get a run in time as we don’t so much miss every set piece it’s more the case the ball never gets to one of our players. (it seems)

Think most of the above is in relation to Farkes conservative approach to date is down to an immense amount of pressure and expectation that he finds himself under.

But I’m sure he would kick himself if the worst happened and he hadn’t tried another way.

I think the team is always better with Amps at the back.

Good post Class, does make you wonder what the manager sees and we don't - I too thought that the back three in pre-season made us quicker but what do I/ we know?

Here's to three points tomorrow regardless of how ever many we have at the back:)

Good post class. Points to fear dosent it.
Leeds too big for him.
He has soo many options with players and tactics and formations. But is scared to lose more than wanting to win. Quotes clean sheets a lot.

Agree ani.

Good point about Farke’s conservative approach class. It’s very apparent that he’s far more worried about losing a game, rather than playing a more offensive approach to winning the game. That’s the pressure of managing Leeds United.
Can’t stand the possession based football, with very little positive impact.
We have quite a few players who pass the ball either sideways or backwards, then they point to the player they’ve just passed it to, to play a pass that they should have played in the first place!
I watched the man. city arsenal game at the weekend, which I imagine a lot of posters watched too, and how many times did city play it wide when there were so many opportunities to take a shot on? Very reminiscent of our approach to games, albeit at a higher level. I was interested to hear Jon newsome say he expects a midfielder to be tackling, defending and scoring a few goals. Not just passing a few yards and sitting back. Farke has definitely got more negative as time has gone on, but I honestly don’t think he will be instructing his players not to have a pop at goal when the opportunity arises. We have far too many players who take the easy way out and pass the buck. So come on, let’s see a couple of 30 yarders into the postage stamp tomorrow against Coventry!

30 yarders C and J? . as if

. unfortunately our recruitment team have recruited far too many players who find it uber challenging to score many from any distance.

To C&J

Isn't this the modern way? We are hardly a team inflicted by this style of play alone; the EPL is full of these sides these days. This "tippy-tappy" football is rife now and making the spectacle dull in general. I think it as cowardly football to be honest and I blame the likes of Pep for it. Ball retention at all costs, even if it means sending it back half a pitch to the keeper.

Players hardly try and take a man on these days, even when its' the sole reason they're in the team. Our right side seems incapable of going forward and has been like it for 2+ seasons. I sit in the NW corner and so see this wing for its entire length and I scream in frustration when I see the ball to [Ayling / Rodon / Gray / etc ], just get constantly recycled across the back. The number of times we would eventually beat the press and then it kick straight back to the centre back and repeat! That in truth was what made Rutter a pleasure to watch, in that as soon as he had the ball, he would try and turn and run at the defence.

Klopp was a breath of fresh air when he came and started "full on" football [or the football I grew up watching]. Opta doesn't help either with the stupid metrics of passing accuracy junk. I would sooner a player was at 50% if half his passes were made dangerously forward and creating chances.

I watched the Man City game and you're 100% right about their style. The fear of $'ing up is palpable. Somewhere on YouTube there is a video showing them having a 95 pass move lasting 3+ minutes leading to a goal. People wax lyrical about it [City fans I guess], but give me a 3-4 move from Klopp's Liverpool any day.

Man City. very meh!

Fantastic post ani. I don’t disagree with a single thing you say there.
Players need to be brave. Football shouldn’t be a complicated game. But it certainly is nowadays. Speak about singing from the same hymn sheet. That is, showing some initiative and improvising a bit. That’s Farke style though. Play to the system, and if we’re losing, end up with half a dozen forwards on the pitch.
Also I was being tongue in cheek Baz. Like I said a while back, what about a lovely flighted corner and Rodon powering in a header. Never happens.

Amps certainly more than capable of playing CB and playing well. But he's much better suited as a DLP/ attack disruptor, for us. His consistency there is top notch, imo. Thought we were more balanced last season when it was Struijk and Rodon at CB. That run after Xmas was great with Amps and Rodon, but it did coincide with Mes having a decent little run of games for once, which helped the winning run. Amps did get caught out a few times at CB. And of course as I've said many times previously, my personal opinion is that Struijk is the best CB in the league, so Amps moving there tomoz should only be a temporary measure, imo. But he should definitely start there tomoz if Struijk isn't available.
