Surprised no one has mentioned Junior Firpo's international outing as a CF the other night!? Maybe we already have our Stuart Dallas type utility player!? ??.
10 Sep 2024 12:39:41
Surprising pick by his manager certainly. Unfortunately, however, Junior didn’t get a real opportunity to show what he could do in that position as Dominican Republic’s left winger was shown a straight red after 10 minutes, for a last man professional foul. Consequently Junior was shifted to LW with the RW moving central and RM moving to RW - weirdly the latter player Raphael Nunez has squad number 9, but hasn’t played at CF for any of his 7 caps, or indeed in club football. For his 5 Dom Rep caps Junior has played LM (3) , AM (1) and CF/ LW (1) .
Obviously partly a reflection of the level of the team (FIFA rank 150) and the rest of the squad, and level of their opponents. In those games they’ve beaten Aruba (194) , British Virgin Islands (207) and Bermuda (171) , lost narrowly to Jamaica (59) and fairly heavily to Peru (42) . Their next opponents are Dominica (181) .

I’d play firpo over wober and byram every day of the week. Also think his obvious distribution in attacking quarter should be appreciated. Lacking possibly a few assists and goals from last year you’d think that an occasional formation change could be warranted.
Either way.
Manor and firpo way too good for this league and should reac havoc. Buckle up.

Interesting info Cluey! And I agree Aus. He is a great crosser of the ball.
10 Sep 2024 17:17:12
No way Firpo is way too good for the Champo. this league is hs level .
He was way out of his depth in EPL.
10 Sep 2024 18:42:32
Apparently played LM today against Dominica - picking up an assist for their second goal, in a 2:0 win. Not exactly a surprising scoreline given Domica’s even lower FIFA ranking, as per earlier post.
10 Sep 2024 19:33:59
He has improved, players do, could be an asset in the Premiership as Leif Davies heads back to the Championship with Ipswich.
10 Sep 2024 19:50:16
OP
Firpo needs to be kept as far away from a LB position as possible .
up field
LW .
bench cheerleader
. striker even.
. but not LB.
he simply can NOT defend against good players even decent players
Firpo and Mes blunders against Palace started the never ending R slippery slide into the Champo abyss.
10 Sep 2024 20:38:22
I watched about 5 mins of that game and looked like he was at LB by time I put it on.
10 Sep 2024 20:39:16
Don't think he's done bad at all defensively last season and so far this one, Baz.
10 Sep 2024 22:06:37
Apparently Firpo had the most assists in the championship this calendar year?
I’m still not convinced he can be a proper player in the EPL but to be fair to him he was injured so often when we were up there and maybe just maybe he might be more successful after promotion this season?
Then again isn’t he our of contract soon?
11 Sep 2024 00:53:11
Firpo is a championship player. End of! He is not a good enough defender for anything above.
Trent struggles at Liverpool to defend at epl level.
I said it before firpo is OK when he has a mobile decent cb who can cover him.
He got toasted last year against Leicester.
11 Sep 2024 02:53:53
Pretty much what Ben said .
11 Sep 2024 05:59:27
Well that’s his job to defend and to get up the pitch as fast as possible and assist, not easy to do both jobs at the same time. Pascal does that job of covering him, he even did that job pretty well in my opinion when Struijk was injured for a large part of last season.
A lot of fans seem to find it hard to accept that some players do improve from a previous unproductive period and Firpo has achieved that under Farke’s coaching regime.
Good luck to Firpo and I seriously hope we extend his contract if he continues on this trajectory and certainly if we are promoted.
In my opinion he is definitely an asset to the team.
11 Sep 2024 08:18:49
Deffo improved under Farke. With the caveat that we are also playing at a lower level and he's been injury free for while. Hope it continues!
11 Sep 2024 09:49:03
Dill,
Firpo into final year of contract. hurrah
I am very hopeful Firpo replacement Isaac Schmidt is far, far better defensively than JF
As even at Champo level Firpo is a defensive liability imo
- often wayy too slow tracking back miles out of position
- very clumsy in tackling gives away lots of free kicks in dangerous areas
- doesn't man mark well. too often ball watching etc etc.
11 Sep 2024 09:10:58
So OP very unwisely wants in a LUFC back 5 in the EPL
Mes, Firpo, Struick ( who conceded over 160 goals in a LUFC back 5 previous 2 EPL seasaons ) .
Good grief ?.
11 Sep 2024 13:34:20
Firpo is indeed in his final year and very unlikely to be sticking around after this season.
11 Sep 2024 14:51:57
Be. Firpo got toasted against lecister? Didn’t we beat them twice and certainly got one clean sheet
Firpo got team of the year like mes, he has been consistent and one of our best players by bi/ polar baz has bee in bonnet for a change.
11 Sep 2024 15:53:50
Berma . Firpo got well toasted
And any chance you can state facts not wee Berma made up stuff
As Firpo was NOT in any team of the year ( Official EFL . PFA etc ) last season. ?
Quelle surprise LB Leif Davis was in every team of year
Meslier wasnt in them either except the PFA one ?.
11 Sep 2024 17:33:09
He was motm just a week or so ago!
11 Sep 2024 20:02:51
Bermo. Leeds at home were battered by Leicester last year. Especially first half. Firpo was given a roasting by their pacy winger and rb.
I have stuck up for firpo in the past when he was in and out of the squad.
Byram coming back made his road back to full fitness possible.
He is an experienced talented player and maybe a few years ago with the benefits of no injuries he may of stepped up to epl. But not now he is just not quick enough.
Alioski was not a good lb but his pace and tenacity made him compete in the Premiership.
If firpo stays fit and plays as he is he will get a good move when we go up.
11 Sep 2024 21:05:38
Ben there’s no real profit in selling Firpo as there is a 25% profit sell on clause to Barcelona.
I’d say he’s got another two decent seasons ahead of him and that I believe could be in the Premiership. if we make it.
Another two year contract could be in the offing.?
12 Sep 2024 20:06:32
Op firpo will go on a free.
He will get a lucrative deal to see out his career probably Europe.
Not the epl. Unless you can get him some different legs!
13 Sep 2024 13:55:58
Ben
When it comes to Firpo and indeed Meslier. our dear OP has a naive blind spot. he hasn't got a scooby doo.
