It's been reported that LUFC are considering extending Bambi's contract. Why?

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Sep 2024 18:34:09
Keeping him on after he retires at the end of the season, as he knows his way around the physio room.

06 Sep 2024 20:56:25
Great reply dill really made me chuckle.

07 Sep 2024 06:58:38
Just read that about Bambi. Absolutely ridiculous if true. What a complete waste of money.

07 Sep 2024 07:14:04
Is it though? In contract, he’s worth more to the club and can attract a transfer fee if and when he leaves. He’s just turned 31 and would be a free agent at the end of the season otherwise. I doubt this is about keeping him, though if he returns to fitness / form, why not? I doubt he will be on the same terms; this is about maximising his value to the club.

07 Sep 2024 08:13:18
A transfer fee? Hilarious.

07 Sep 2024 08:26:24
Indeed Ani, and he’s probably taking a pay cut too.

07 Sep 2024 09:21:38
That journo that reported it is a charlatan. Would take it with a bucket load of salt.

07 Sep 2024 09:23:26
He's already got a contract until 2026 according to transfermarkt, Ani.

07 Sep 2024 09:24:45
There is a way in which it could make sense. He’s currently the highest earner at the Club, which makes absolutely no sense, given that he’s hardly playing, and on such a high wage no-one would be interested in taking him off our hands at any time in the next 2 years. The lad may be content taking a significant pay cut in exchange for the security of a longer contract.

This could free up some wages for an additional striker in January, either permanent or on loan. If Bamford can find some fitness he could either still be an asset in the rest of this season or, if we do bring in a ‘replacement’, another club might take him loan perhaps paying half of his now lower wages. In the summer, it’s possible again another club could take him on loan on a similar, or better, basis depending on his fitness and form. If somehow he gets into a vein of fitness and form, someone may even take him from us permanently given his reduced wage level.

Bottom line is that as things stand, we’re paying a huge wack to the lad every week whatever his fitness and form is for this season and next, so it’s probably worth rolling the dice, at least to increase the chance of the financial/ fitness/ form odds falling more in the Club’s favour.

Good points, Clu.

07 Sep 2024 11:42:03
Careful Cluey; the logic police will stitch you up like a right kipper on that one!

07 Sep 2024 11:42:14
I’d just send someone round. Its business. Not personal.

07 Sep 2024 12:02:13
Now I’m confused.
It’s better paying him less money for longer rather than nothing from 2026?
That would have to be a big big drop in pay.

07 Sep 2024 12:27:29
According to the Athletic again reported i'm May 2034 all Leeds players upon relegation had to undergo a 50% to 60% wage cut.

As such Bamford is on somewhete between £28, 000 to £35,000 . equates to around £3 million remaining wages of 2 years remaining on his contract.

Bamford is 31, he will be 33 at the end of his contract . he is already well, well past his physical best

He has had numerous different injuries over a very troublesome past 3 years

It seems very highly likely he will continue to have extensive injuries and physically deteriorate further
.

So hoping for another club to pay any transfer fee for PB is folly, pie in the sky VERY wishful thinking indeed . never, never happening!

07 Sep 2024 13:58:48
Plus. As dill says. We can rent out his air b n b in physio room.

07 Sep 2024 18:41:16
Almost certain to happen then Baz.

07 Sep 2024 20:38:06
Nope Ani . NEVER will happen ( as deep down you know full well)

much like your "Gonners" ( I did warn thee Ani) ☺.

07 Sep 2024 22:28:41
Unless he is doing a medical degree and can join the physio staff!

07 Sep 2024 23:18:31
Bit like your Rodon would never sign permanently for a championship club or Everton would never get a points deduction, or your Philips to the barcodes etc. yea Baz, we take your “never gonner happen” statements with a pinch of salt. When you gonner be right for once?

08 Sep 2024 00:44:47
Ani . yep Rodon performances this season have very weirdly fallen off a cliff

so maybe the Champo ( not the EPL ) is his ability level after all.

11 Sep 2024 06:37:55
For one of the extremely rare occasions I’m agreeing with Baz concerning Bamford. He is surplus to requirements due to his constant injuries. No club is likely to invest in a player that spends the majority of his season of the treatment table.
It was not a good idea by our previous owners to give Bamford such a lengthy contract when they did.
Bamford’s playing days for us are all but done, I have a feeling he’ll make some appearances this season but if we go up he’ll either wind down his contract which is more likely or, feel he could have some kind of short future as a semi crocked player for a Championship club.
He also may retire and could go into coaching?
Bamford can also speak four languages and would, you would think have some capacity career wise in football outside of being a player.
