Farke has to say publically that Messlier is an excellent keeper. If he didn't he would be a fairly naff manager. Doesn't do any player any good to be openly criticised by his boss. Look what happened to Phillips. Before anyone else says it Phillips might have gone down that road whatever but someone like Bielsa wouldn't have let it.
11 Aug 2024 13:46:10
Yes Farke publicly backing Le Gash is as expected
But in a must get promoted season Farke has again badly got the goalkeeping position badly wrong.
11 Aug 2024 13:48:13
Farke could say we can do better. Generalise. Defence was not as it should be.
He dosent say he best in the league. Why would he say that if he didn’t believe it.
11 Aug 2024 13:55:20
The adage cruel to be kind ces to mind hess!
Maybe a rocket up his arse is what he exactly needs in a Machiavellian way
I have never denounced him on this forum, as I also share a bit of OP's view that unfotfor. a keeper, when he makes a mistake more often than not it's a goal
Same approach across our squad and my god we would have conceded some amount of goals last season,
Again yesterday I blame Amapdu more than mes for that goal, yet he escaped criticism for. exact same issue Mistake
And let's be honest Amps made a good few last season which were covered by Joe,
11 Aug 2024 13:55:48
Baz, you listed loads of posts from different posters in a previous post further down.
First of all as you never explained, what was the point in this exercise as there was no reason given for it?, and secondly why did you put the “strange positioning” remark next to my name?
Cheers Baz ?.
11 Aug 2024 14:34:08
Hey Woody
1) My post was clear. many people have Le Gash concerns
2) Woody revisit your post of yesterday. you wrote ' strange positioning ' by Meslier
I have accurately quoted you
Cheers Woody.
11 Aug 2024 16:40:38
Illan Meschubka.
11 Aug 2024 16:58:41
I wrote “his positioning is strange at the best of times” Baz, not “Strange positioning” so you didn’t as you put it “accurately quote me”.
Dare I say this, but I believe you went to the lengths of looking into what everyone said about Meslier to go to somewhat proving what you have been saying about him all along, it’s very sad that you have to go to these lengths to underline your early assessment of him! I also said I hope he comes good and while he’s No1 there is nothing we can do about it because we are not the manager!
11 Aug 2024 17:27:02
For me, Chris, you can't blame an outfield player moreso than the keeper in that situation. It's unfortunate for keepers but they are the last line of defence and are supposed to be the fail safe if mistakes occur in the defensive third. If outfield fails in their duties it doesn't directly cost us a goal, but it can bring about situations which make it easier for that circumstance to occur. When the goalie messes up to that magnitude it does directly result in a goal. The reliance on a goalkeeper, fairly or unfairly, is much higher than any outfield players as the consequences are that much higher for their mistakes.
When the ball is at a pretty much perfect height without a lot of pace and a goalkeeper is getting their hands on it, it, in high likelihood, should be saved. Meslier was at fault moreso than anyone, as he directly impacted whether that fairly tame shot, which was aimed right at him, was saved or not. Whereas Ampadu was simply at fault for allowing the ball to go to a player who could then pass it. The immediate outcomes are different for each of their mistakes, so the burden is one the one who could directly stop the goal, for me.
If it had been a rocket and put across Mes in the bottom corner then different story, but it was right at him and he had his hands on it. He should and needs to be saving that.
Inversely, it would be like me blaming Bogle for Aaronson missing that final goal scoring opportunity. The blame lies with the player who could directly impact whether a goal was scored or not.
11 Aug 2024 17:37:53
Amps was pushed aside like Bambi dill, hence opening up more or less the whole LHS of our pen area, no upper body strength, poor positional sense
Of course Mes last line, and I not absorbing him of blame, but for me Amps role was greater, if an attacker couldn't utilise that opportunity then it would have been farcical
Yes Mes makes blunders, but as I said so do many many others in our squad.
11 Aug 2024 17:39:41
Just to add to my previous comment as I read somewhere earlier that errors tend to work themselves out and he doesn't cost us goals over the duration of a season. That is factually inaccurate.
Meslier actually cost us over 4 goals last season despite him pulling off some decent saves (with -4.49 goals prevented) according to the data. His shot stopping is not what it's made out to be and over the course of the season it didn't work itself out. He cost us goals. It's especially frustrating considering goalkeepers such as Hermansen, Patterson and Johansson had +4.68, +4.06 and +3.19 goals prevented. Meaning they actually saved their teams goals over the course of the season at a rate of around 8 goals or more over Meslier.
11 Aug 2024 17:49:55
What Dill said.
11 Aug 2024 18:00:34
Pretty much the same meaning Woody .
Anyways. just for you here's another one of yours word for word
10.Aug 2024 19:48
' if you can't stop bread and butter shots then it's time to go " lol ?.
11 Aug 2024 18:11:21
Excellent post Dill 100% spot on.
11 Aug 2024 18:12:30
Baz Similar to my cookie ? cutter remark. More of an ??ism so Paraag understands.
11 Aug 2024 18:16:35
Dills debunking post of 17 : 39 is imo post of season so far! ?.
11 Aug 2024 18:20:21
Farke did say new signings are coming and we have to be patient. maybe one of the signings was/ is a goalie.
Maybe giving meslier the deputy slot was to boost his worth before we flog him. Maybe his carelessness on Saturday is because he has switched off and is uninterested, like a certain winger was at the end of last season.
11 Aug 2024 18:26:26
I like him I think he will be ok but he dose have some issues which the the staff need to sort out in training.
11 Aug 2024 18:27:29
How far do you go back in the play to attribute blame?
And Baz you must have plenty of time on your hands to go back over every post to help you Mez argument!
Unfortunately you may be correct regarding him. Apart from being extremely good at one on ones he’s pretty average at best on everything else. So yeah in my mind he’s an average Championship keeper. Can you get promotion with an average goalie? Yes if the rest of your team is top class and coached well. We will find out soon enough.
11 Aug 2024 18:38:27
I will give you that Baz, as it is word for word, but the “strange positioning” was not, was it! While I’m on, please tell me what is up with that comment about bread and butter shots that makes you laugh Baz? You are a very strange individual who seems to think that by mentioning this it’s like one up man ship to you! What is your aim in all this, all this you said what wrong and what you posters predicted wrong?
Have you ever realised that you are the only one on this site that posts about what others have posted wrong?
You are the only one on here that tried to score points with he said this or he said that? It’s bizarre and very worrying, you are trying to be controlling and you try to manipulate for your own gratification!
When posters come on here and post, they post their own views about games, squads, results, signings, owners and managers, but you seem to just hang on to what people say, and in all honesty you don’t really put a lot in unless you are winding people up or trying to (again) manipulate posters! If I’m wrong then please except my apologies but I don’t think I am Baz! ???.
11 Aug 2024 19:10:34
Sorry stopped reading this ranting mumbo jumbo Woody ?
What I would say is that you seem to now be fretting about your critique of Mes . hence the emoji
Life goes on fella ☺.
11 Aug 2024 19:14:13
Took just 10 mins Cork. all posts on same date 10 August yesterday.
11 Aug 2024 19:53:56
Woody mate I love ya buddy. But you need to chill when it comes to Baz.
Baz is Baz and just get used to it
I had four dogs not too long ago and unfortunately and very sadly the last one died the other night.
One of our dogs I never really clicked with and never quite loved like the other three. She was different to the others not as friendly or as out going. Just before Xmas I had to get her put to sleep as she was very ill
My point is while I never loved her like my other dogs when she was gone I was sad and missed her. She was part of the family after all.
Ok I’m definitely pissed now’.
11 Aug 2024 20:20:38
I’m not fretting Baz, nor am I ranting and I reckon you really know that I’m not posting mumbo jumbo, I just think you are rattled because I dare challenge you!
I tell you what Baz, again I will ask, you tell me why you constantly look up what other posters post historically? Why do you then berate or ridicule what they have said that’s wrong, wrongly suggested or even more annoyingly wrongly predicted?
Believe this or not but I’m not as stupid as you seem to think and nor are many others on here! Just give me one good reason why you do it, and I don’t care if it’s a bad reason just as long as it’s the truth ?
One more thing, please stop telling me I’m ranting, if you can determine when someone is ranting, concerned or just peed off by a post then you are very very clever! ??.
11 Aug 2024 20:43:13
Corky quite droll for you fella ☺
11 Aug 2024 20:44:18
Actually Woody I change my mind. Give him hell what he deserves! ’n.
11 Aug 2024 22:32:17
Christ, talk about bashing your own players after one game. I find it quite sad really.
Marching On Seperately.
11 Aug 2024 23:47:07
I get you Corky, cheers mate and I’m sorry about your dog, ? ? my boys are my world, I’ve 2 x French Bulldogs, Bullit and Louis, like I say both are my world and I’d be list without them pal.
OP very funny post mate Strange that should be our main chant now, Marching on sort of all together apart from a few! lol ??.
12 Aug 2024 00:02:28
One game?
More like 180 to 200 games ( four seasons)
12 Aug 2024 00:50:56
Bullit holds the ⚽️ up better than Bamford. Said that last season.
12 Aug 2024 01:03:36
From my end, I feel I'm being fair with Mes, OP. Just apportioning the blame on him for the first goal. Which I think is fair. And then some data showing he has actually cost us goals over the past season. There's needs to be some fair criticism surrounding players. If they play badly it needs to be said, rather than ignoring it.
12 Aug 2024 02:40:15
absolutely spot on Dill re :
' There needs to be some fair criticism surrounding players. If they play badly, IT NEEDS TO BE SAID, rather then IGNORING it '
12 Aug 2024 06:31:02
As I’ve repeatedly mentioned before our defense in the Premiership was almost non existant, quite possibly the worst defense we’ve ever had at Leeds Utd. Meslier’s stats were obviously going to take a hammering during that period through no fault of his own.
Now we are back in the Championship teams are raising théier their games against us as we are the biggest scalp in this league for many reasons. This obviously is going to make more pressure on our defense and GK.
So stats become somewhat unfair when comparing Mez against other GK’s.
A more relevant point is, how come you don’t slag off our attackers who missed many goal scoring opportunities to score and that happens in numerous
in other games also?
The club is not going to get rid of Meslier, that is quite evident after Marseilles interest in him, so why go on bleating like you are desperate to prove your point over Farke who has infinite more knowledge and experience in football than you will probably have in your lifetime.
Have you won the Championship league twice?
12 Aug 2024 07:42:07
If that's the case there's always going to be reasons though isn't there, mate. Every game he needs to be focused because, as you say, teams are stepping up when they play us. And did teams not step up against Leicester? Hermansen saved his team almost 5 goals.
Let's say benefit of the doubt and we expunge the previous EPL seasons. Last season we had one of the best defences in the league yet Meslier still cost us goals individually moreso than he saved us. That goes some way to explain the issue with him and his performances. His stats put him at bang average in this league in regards to goals prevented. He needs to do better as it's costing us goals and points. That's all it boils down to, for me. Are we reassured when we see a shot on goal at Mes or are we a bit worried, as the data strongly suggests we should be the latter. A team going for promotion needs a goalkeeper who provides better assurance and saves us goals over the course of the season, not the inverse - which, unfortunately, is what Mes did last season and has started to already this one.
Bamford and Piroe got slagged plenty last season and Bamford in previous seasons, If I recall correctly.
12 Aug 2024 07:52:33
Stats are fine if everything was on an even plateau more often than not they are simply misleading.
Also please give your reasons why you don’t put as much effort into your posts on vilifying our attackers with their many missed opportunities? over a long period also ie: Rutter last season and Willy’s and Aaronson’s good goal scoring opportunities which were fluffed against Portsmouth.
Why condemn only one player for his errors and not another?
12 Aug 2024 08:47:20
Take Rutter or Gnonto out of the team . the team is going to be weaker .
but not so with Meslier nor Bamford.
12 Aug 2024 09:18:05
It’s a personal vendetta against one player without real substance, I’m afraid you are not backing up your argument well enough for me Dill. We will beg to differ on this subject mate.
Baz, you just repeat what anyone else says with a large amount of trying to wind up others.
I never take your opinions seriously except for laughing material.
12 Aug 2024 09:51:41
I'll take a look after work to see how many shots we had against us as opposed other teams. If we haven't Sure the data will conclude it one way or another.
We all know Aaronson should have scored, in the same way we all know ages should've saved that tame shot. Trouble with the comparison is we also shouldn't have been chasing the game which the catalyst being Mes allowing their first goal. That goal gave them confidence. That's where the issues stemmed from as it turned the game. We were comfortable before that and it put undue pressure on us from that point onwards. Any half decent keeper saves that and you could argue we'd go on and win that game. Instead we conceded a weak goal.
12 Aug 2024 09:55:50
There's also the argument about our Forwards being match winners so they get more leeway. Mes rarely is, if ever. And as mentioned previously, he's cost us goals and points more than he's gained us them.
I just want a keeper we can rely on. Mes is not currently that.
12 Aug 2024 10:12:35
Dill has and continues to provide plenty of actual substance re Mes
And OP not true :
I was the FIRST poster on here 4 years agp to raise concerns about Meslier in goal.
So I am a trendsetter??.
12 Aug 2024 11:05:57
Yh no worries mate. Think us lot spending 2-3 days on the same subject is just beating a dead horse anyway. Hopefully he has a good game against WBA. Sure most of us will be a bit happier then.
12 Aug 2024 12:00:48
What Dill says. The failure to sell Meslier and upgrade him will haunt ?? LUFC hierarchy. It's the reason we remain a Championship side. Monumental error.
12 Aug 2024 13:19:37
I corroborate Baz was the first. He termed Gash. I made into Gashlier.
{Ed001's Note - who goes a toss about a childish petty bit of name calling? Give it a rest.}
12 Aug 2024 13:42:16
In your opinion George, let’s not forget that.
12 Aug 2024 14:08:02
Ed001 I agree no-one cares. Wish we had Becker in nets. Aggravating ours let's in silly goals.
{Ed001's Note - we had years of Mignolet, who would let in the first shot game after game. He had grown up playing handball and so would literally pull his way out of the way of a shot to try and get his hand down there to block it. 99% of the time, it just meant a goal was conceded. Courtois used to be the same, but had it coached out of him to a large degree.}
12 Aug 2024 14:09:55
OP Have we returned to the EPL? My opinion can always be ignored.
12 Aug 2024 16:47:51
Baz will be pleased as being recognised by George as “the first”……. but nobody else gives a steaming dog turd! Only you two?! Odd that innit?
For a lot of people it’s the simple things in life. For simple people, it’s just the things.
12 Aug 2024 20:17:04
Defending errors left Mez vulnerable, you can’t account one without the other in my books.
Mez made an error yes, but so did our defense.
You can’t expect Meslier to save every shot where our defenders have left the ball loose and vis-versa.
It’s just not about blaming one, it’s a team effort.
13 Aug 2024 05:58:14
Stats also have to be taken with a double dose of salt.
Give me every single stat / piece of data available on Mes, and I will create a statistically supported story that says he is the best in the world. Data is there to be manipulated to support your opinion. That’s a fact.
