So people, how would you all feel if the Raphinha money was spent to bring in……
Kalamiendu
Correa
Pepe
Mata
Taylor
Ben foster

It would leave us with a net spend of day £30m and a very much bigger better squad.
News this morning that Bamford isn’t training so I do think we need 2 x strikers as he’s clearly not going to be available for large parts of the season.

Mata is for me a decent move for his experience and he still has quality to unlock defence in the last 30mins of games

Taylor, we’ll we all know we need options at lb

Kalamiendu
A bit unknown but so were the like of n’kunku and co that psg sold so he may be a real good buy

Correa
Has quality as a 2nd striker/ atm

Foster
Again we all know we need depth there and to help meslier and klarsson

Pepe
Without a doubt there’s a player in there, played out of position a lot for Arsenal.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bamford is having his minutes managed but I feel that might be the case for the whole season . I don’t think he can play every game . Would you not fancy Geldhart to fill in for him when needed? I think he looks quality and didn well when needed last season . However I do agree I think we do need another forward.

16 Jul 2022 10:27:10
Mighty, love joffy mate and think he has a huge future with us. I just don’t want to beep too much on a young lad at this top level.

16 Jul 2022 10:39:43
Gelhardt had a few injury niggles last season, and apparently has slight soreness after the Brisbane game, so the Club may need to manage his minutes carefully at this stage of his development.

Don’t think we need another wide player, so Pepe rumours are probably agent talk and or lazy clickbait journos who see we’ve sold Raphinha and think we’re in the market for a replacement - having not twigged that Sinisterra was the positional replacement, and we’re intending to use the transfer funds to further strengthen the squad elsewhere.

16 Jul 2022 10:42:00
Joffy also a bit iffy with injuries though Mighty. May not be the case as much this season but it has to be factored in surely? Plus he is still a bit green for all his talent.

16 Jul 2022 11:13:49
So with Raphinha and his goals gone

And

fitness issues with Bamford and possibly again Gelhardt.

Which players are going to. score the minimum 50 plus EPL goals we will need?

2 striker signings a must for me plus would sign Cornet ( 9 EPL goals last season) .

Goals from hopefully

Sinisterra
New striker (s)
Harrison
Gelhardt

But fearful for Leeds this season in scoring enough goals.

16 Jul 2022 11:31:40
50+ Baz? Is that us winning most of our games 1-0 with a few 2 nils chucked in as well? Championa, Championa.

16 Jul 2022 11:48:12
Agree with you Baz on needing 2 x strikers as the news this morning regarding Bamford tends to worry me. Bamford has been out for a long time now and never seems to be getting any nearer recovering, all this talk regarding his fitness is never really positive and there always seems to be something else underlying. So yes we need 2 x quality strikers that can put together 30 plus goals a season between them. Make no mistake this is the difference between make or break season! On top of that we need this LB situation sorting and and back up keeper with Foster the ideal candidate. ??.

16 Jul 2022 12:05:09
Baz - I suspect James will increase his goal output this season - Marsch said they’ve been working on that. We will also be trying to be less reliant on the forwards for our goals. Rasmus has had a few goals in him elsewhere, so seems likely to chip, as will Aaronson Aaronson. It’s evident they’re working on set pieces so we could see our CBs and others pick up some goals from those. Could this be season Forshaw finally scores for Leeds?

16 Jul 2022 13:27:24
Forshaw to score? Yeh he might do in his own net?.

16 Jul 2022 13:28:48
Good posts Clu and Woody

Clu you are correct that the team definitely needs goals from other areas too CBs at set pieces full backs

But I am disappointed with the midfield goals options

Where are tbe Leeds midfielders who are going to score 8 to 12 goals a season in tne mould of

Bremner
Giles
Currie ( to a lesser extent)
Sheridan
Strachan
McAllister
Speed
Bowyer
Pablo.

16 Jul 2022 13:49:45
James took his goal well the other day, and his service to others seems improved too. I expect Roca to notch a few, plus Aaronson. Harrison and Sinsterra will weigh in too. I tend to agree tho that one top striker, a back up with future potential, plus Mata as the creative mid, AND Lb and Gk cover as essential as well. I’d forget Pepe. Nasty little turd, and overrated. In short: agreed! ?.

16 Jul 2022 14:22:08
Alf 50 plus goals would be lovely to have a relatively stress free season somewhere between 12th and 15th place finish

Less than 40 goals and we are struggling.

16 Jul 2022 14:45:03
Bright Pepe 6 feet tall so hardly little. At £20M, good signing imo.

16 Jul 2022 16:10:13
Agreed Baz, only 4 teams scored less than 40 goals last season, and 3 were relegated - the anomaly being Wolves, who were kept out of bother by their stingy defence.

I’d also agree that we should be aiming to score 50+ goals. We managed 42 last season despite playing most of the season without a recognised senior CF.

On goal threat from midfield, apparently Aaronson likes to arrive late into the box to get on the end of crosses, or pick up rebounds - unfortunately against Brisbane he got into the box too early, resulting in his early strike being ruled out for offside - so should pick up a handful of goals at least. Of course the hope will be that the likes of Rodrigo and Klich willl rediscover their shooting boots for when they are on the pitch this season. For future seasons, the Club’s expectation would seem to be that the likes of Greenwood, Gyabi and Archie will develop into box to box midfielders with an eye for goal. I still believe that if he fully recovers from his ACL and was kept here next season, Bogusz would have the potential to contribute significantly to our goal tally, but it is unclear what the Club and player’s intentions are for this season and beyond.

16 Jul 2022 16:32:39
One of Marsch’s key messages is ‘100 to 70’ - for the players to slow down at key moments - to have more poise and control over how tho construct the next play. I guess in the heat and stress of the relegation battle last season it would have been harder for the players to bring that into practice, but within the calm of preseason Marsch and his coaches will certainly have been putting across that message repeatedly. Dan James was often particularly criticised for running around like a headless chicken, with folk saying it was little use being able to run faster than anyone else on the pitch when there was so often no end product. Hopefully the excellent floated cross assist for Joffy’s goal against Brisbane is an illustration that the 100 to 70 message has hit home, and is the sign of much better things to come from the lad in the coming season.

16 Jul 2022 16:48:11
Good posts Clu.

16 Jul 2022 17:01:50
Not only that Cku but for a squad so deeply ingrained with Bielsaball (100 to 95) it will have been difficult for the team to change so quickly to a new style under such pressure.

16 Jul 2022 17:08:40
Cluey ? to 70 = Bielsa to Marsch.

16 Jul 2022 18:51:21
Indeed George Bielsa 100 and Marsch 70 but let's give him a chance eh?

16 Jul 2022 19:22:31
Alf That's season goals conceded.
