Is now a good time, to check if we actually do own JKA?

All joking aside, we’re really down to less than bare bones now and run the risk of using child labour for West Ham game.

Hopefully Paddy surprises us all to be ready for Sunday, otherwise we’re talking about Gray at 15, Max Dean17 are we really reliant on these very young boys to play?

Cannot defend the indefensible here, whilst injury list may be unprecedented, for our team not to have suitable back up options in the reserves, is not right, not every purchase should be a teenager, this proves why and sort of dispels our slightly obsessive reliance on teens.

In the absence of getting anyone in I’d go with Raphinia down the middle myself, we know DJ cannot play that role, in fairness to the lad, he’s never claimed he could.

Or maybe crazy times call for crazy ideas why not take a punt on the best in form striker from div 1 like (Smith, Rotherham 14 goals six assists) or div 2 (Matt, Forest Green Rovers 14 goals 7 assists) ?

The next Jamie Vardy, who knows, but not a lot of money to find out.

We could also do a lot worse than recruit strikers the like of Glen Murray, Billy Sharp etc within youth set up, to bring on our young forwards and be able to plug the gaps in exceptional times as these.

Alan shearer always said, scoring is 10% ability 90%belief and confidence, not a lot of money to roll the dice and a stronger option than playing children against premier league defences in the VERY short term.

Who knows we may unearth a diamond and plus it frees Archie Gray to do his Sunday paper round.

So now we know we an only do loan deals due to Financial fair play rules, so who will they be?

11 Jan 2022 10:18:01
I agree, in our situation why not take a punt on a lower League Striker. As you say, we might just unearth a gem. Even if not, it won't break the bank.

Class Are you sure you don't mean Matt Smith lol? Both of those strikers in their 30s. Murderball would interrupt their season anyway. Here's an idea. Terminate murderball and retain Thorp Arch as a sporting training facility instead of having to approach Leeds City Council for a change of use to hospital 🏥.

I’d gladly take Matt smith for three games just now George, he was a one trick pony but always have his best based on limited ability to be fair.

Plus he would be useful for defending set pieces

Love the change of use to hospital though!

Class : Raph up front is a good, logical call as it makes much more sense than Bielsa continuing to persist for now a 7th or 8th time with his failed experiment of DJ there. Let DJ play in his best position on the (left) wing.

Whitey and Leo which reputable (financial) source if any states Leeds can only do loans this window in order not to fall foul of FFP?

I recall reading 2 financial sources links around a month ago that Newcastle had £200 million leeway and Leeds has £97 million leeway with FFP.

11 Jan 2022 12:26:26
On what basis are we saying that we now ‘know’ that we only have leeway for loans in this window - some clickbait media articles it would seem - with information from a supposed ‘inside source’ about a supposed meeting. Meanwhile other clickbait articles say we have £15m set aside for a midfielder, or is it £25m for two signings, or……. Basically, we don’t actually ‘know’ anything.

I remember reading those reports as well Baz. Don’t understand why things have changed, or who to believe. Baring in mind tha Radz doesn’t have much cash available and doesn’t appear to want to invest, I tend to believe the reports of last month, and Radz is turning into a tool of an owner.
I admit I have been one to support the club and owner in their lack of player investment in the past (although I know we needed strengthening last window) , I am now losing patience with Radz and VO in their lack of urgency to strengthen the team to maintain Premier league status. I think he wants to invest as little as possible and sell for maximum profit. I know that is business, but when you see all the other tin pot clubs throwing money about, it grates a bit!

Class - I quite like the idea of taking a punt on a lower league striker. Jamille Matt is 31 however that’s the same age as Antonio and while not having the same speed is even more of a unit, at a little over 6’4” and 14.5 stone, and could cause some serious damage in the box. Also unsurprisingly good at holding the ball up and playing others in on goal. Would seem he works hard out of possession too, being happy to tackle back. Career to date is that of a lower league journeyman and who knows how he’d hold up to murderball - actually given our present training related injuries, maybe I’d be more concerned about the damage he might cause if he fell on Raphinha or AN Other.

Some lower league guys potentially Worth a punt in Jan (with future potential, too) :

Elijah Adebayo - Luton - 10 goals + 1 assist in 20 league games. 6'4 - 24 yo. Since start of 20/ 21 season he's bagged 25 in 63. Great attacking the ball in the air, intuitive in the box and a strong penalty taker. Worth £1.8m on Transfermarkt.

Viktor Gyokeres - Coventry - 9 goals + 2 assists in 22 league games. 6'2 - 23 yo. Sweden International. Top notch positional sense in the box, strong runner on the ball (rarely loses posession) and a solid finisher. Worth £2.25m on Transfermarkt.

Joel Piroe - Swansea - 11 goals + 4 assists in 21 league games. 6'1 - 22 yo. Confident finisher, cracking left foot but can also ping it with his right, interest from Leicester recently. Worth £1.35 on Transfermarkt.

good post Dilinger
Of the 3, your analysis of each of their strengths looks like Gyokeres would be the most suited to LUFC under MB.

He'd likely be the best fit. He's suited to a side playing quick counter attacking football and he's a really capable defensive presser when he's up top. Excellent reactions in the box, too, winning second balls, thirds balls, he's a magnet.

Could really add some much needed depth to the squad.

Interesting that Gyokeres’ goal involvements have completely dried up since Coventry’s 11th game -The following game a Blackburn CB went in very heavily on his ankle - somehow he completed the game, and although his ankle blew up really badly, he managed 75 minutes only four days later. Maybe he’s been playing through a little pain or the incident has taken a slight mental edge off his game. There could be other factors too, as Coventry usually play two up top, and it seems he may have been as the deeper of the two more recently, and also been double marked a lot of the time. However, he’s been dropped to the bench for the last two league games they’ve played - 2 of their last three were postponed.
