Very unfortunate start for Brentford v Spurs. Pontus and Canos combining to put Son’s cross into their own net. Hopefully that frustration will help Canos pick up his 5th yellow tonight.

Hopefully they do the same on Sunday.

Pity, both Canos and Norgaard got through without a 5th yellow. Indeed, amazingly Moss handed out no cards at all, although there were at least a couple of challenges which would usually have seen yellow.

Brentford don’t seem to like being pressed at the back, particularly Fernandez the second choice GK, though for most of the game Spurs failed to press with any great intent. Obviously Brentford also like to press high, so we’ll need to be resilient under pressure too. They currently seem to play two up front, with Toney and Mbeumo, so guess we’ll go with three at the back. If Struijk’s out, I’d rather have Cresswell with Llorente and Coops than have KP drop back - as we’ll need Cresswell’s height to help combat. Jansson, Pinnock and Goode at set pieces, and for any long throws by Goode, which caused chaos in the Spurs box tonight - though Meslier’s height may make him better able to combat that particular threat than Lloris. Also, Toney is perhaps a similar threat to West Ham’s Antonio, who Cresswell handled fairly well overall.

Brentford’s three in midfield caused Spurs problems, and may do for us, so it’ll be interesting to see how Bielsa seeks to address that in terms of selection and formation. Hopefully having two days longer than Brentford for recovery and preparation will prove to be a factor in our favour.

Wonder whether whoever brought Krul’s historic ‘insult’ to Raphinha’s attention will also flag up Thomas Frank’s infamous post-Forest “They fear us” comment, ahead of this weekend’s fixture.

Good insights Clu let's see how we get on.

If we can play with that same intensity and controlled agression as we we did in the 2nd half against Palace we will beat Brentford. Dallas epitomized what was needed to win that game. Palace will try to close us down at every opportunity, they’ll try and stop us from keeping the ball, I imagine catching them on the break will be our best chance of scoring.

Phil Hay now seems to think that Bamford and Ayling may start v Brentford. Bamford starting would be a huge boost. If he’s only on the bench, I’d like to see Joffy start up front. As noted by the Square Ball lads, Pontus tended to struggle against more nimble strikers with a low centre of gravity, like Maupay, and Joffy would present that kind of challenge. It’ll be interesting to see who gets minutes with the U23s tonight, as that may give some pointers for Sunday. If Bamford isn’t included, it might seem to suggest (barring further injury) that Bielsa’s seen enough in training to feel he’s ready to start. If he plays some minutes tonight it could suggest there’s still some uncertainty as to whether he’s ready to be a starter or just to be a sub on Sunday.

Do hope so Clu re the Brentford game . Bamford is essential to our team and we need 3 points at home against Brentford.
