Phil Hay in the Athletic saying our wage bill has doubled from around £50m per year to nearer £100m. What total and utter tripe. Leicester wage will is reputably only £86.2m and they have Vardy on £200k per week and a much bigger squad. Rodrigo is on a paltry £57,500 per week in comparison. Sounds very much like Radz is using his pet Journo to mislead everyone to cover up for a lack of investment or the fact board members take an additional 50m out of the club. If it is true then the wage negotiations by Orta make the Seth Johnson wages a snip in comparison. How much is Firpo getting a week? £500k? Absolute balderdash or gross financial mismanagement.

That information is a bit bizarre Alf, I checked out our wage payroll outlay for 2021/ 22 and it’s the second lowest in the EPL at a very prudent £17,926,800. Only Brentford’s is lower than ours. ?

So which is it £100 million ( seems very unlikely

or £18 million which looks also incorrect too, its much much more surely ( Bielsa on £8 million. even Kiko was on £2 million that's £10 million then you have the entire first team squad salary plus others

And Alf to quote you

' the fact board members take an additional £50 million out of our club '!?

Sounds ( more than ) plausible and deeply concerning!

Information seems to differ from different sources, another one I found was £46,785,440 per year. That’s a 61 player payroll going from Rodrigo the highest paid on £100,000 a week to the young kids on £140 a week.

Alf and OP - There are a number of websites which claim to list football players’’ wages, and the figures given vary significantly. Would be interested to know which source you used for your figures.

I wonder also whether the suggested almost £100m is mean to be basic wage, or inclusive of bonuses. Our accounts supposedly show that around £35.5m bonuses were due to players and other staff at the end of last season, for retaining our Prem status.

Well after delving around trying to find reliable sources of players salaries it simply doesn’t exist, from what I gather it is a confidentiality thing between player and club, it’s not something that is normally disclosed.
To a lesser extent it can also be true for transfer fees, except for clubs quoted on the stock exchange who have to officially report them. While journos often converge around a commonly accepted fee, there are sometimes big differences between sources, the nature of bonus and existence of clauses is unsure and it's impossible to estimate exactly how accurate the estimations of "undisclosed transfer fees" are in general.

{Ed007's Note - There's a guy on Twitter called @SwissRamble that's good with all this stuff, HERE is his breakdown of Leeds Utd's last accounts and I got the table etc below from there if it helps:

#LUFC paid a price for success, as their pre-tax loss widened from £21m to £62m, despite revenue rising £5m (11%) from £49m to £54m, as significant investment led to expenses increasing £44m (52%), including £20m promotion bonuses and £7m TV rebate to broadcasters.

Nice one Ed, that’s some in depth figures there, this guy must be some footballing finance geek.

{Ed007's Note - He definitely seems to know what he's talking about but I bet he's not got a bird lol Ed002 is also very knowledgeable about football finances but that usually ends up in a riot on the sites lol no offence but your general football fan including me BTW - don't understand how football clubs are actually ran or the financial stuff.
While I'm on here, I don't know if I've asked before but seeing how busy this site is why don't you have a live chat during games? Ed033 can set up a live chat room for you all to have a blether during games, we do them for a few of the busier sites so if it's something you fancy give us a shout and we'll get it sorted.}

Indeed Clu - 'other staff'being the crooked board. That probably accounts for 30mill of it.

Live chat would be great ed007 - didn't even know that was an option. Would certainly be worth trialling and seeing if it was popular.

{Ed007's Note - I'll get that set up and put a link up before your next match.}
