Ed - you have, I’m sure, seen the exchange of comments on here between me and Ed2 re the Saudi takeover over of Newcastle. Given Ed2’s apparent certainty that the Saudi State did not own or in any way control Newcastle - I’d be interested in his thoughts on the article in The Athletic today. In his view is the author Joey D’Urso also a cretin who is writing about something he doesn’t understand?

{Ed002's Note - I have not seen it and I don't know him but there are plenty of journalists who don't understand many different things. The Saudi State do not have aany control or influence over Newcastle and the separation betweein the State and the Investment fund has been explained to the satisfaction of all concerned.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed - somehow I feel the last sentence should read ‘to the satisfaction of all who don’t give a damn’.

I know you actually mean concerned in a different sense, I all who have a role in deciding whether it is satisfactory for the purposes of the EPL - rather than in a wider sense, either in terms of others who are involved in the EPL, or in terms of anyone else who might be concerned about human right and sportswashing. But actually, to the outsider it feels like those at the EPL who were involved in the decision didn’t give a damn even whether strictly speaking their own requirements were met - as any independent observer - like a reporter in The Athletic can see the assurances given aren’t worth the paper, or digital space they’re written on/ in.

Oh, by the way, I would suggest you do read the article, it’s rather interesting. While I don’t doubt you know a great deal about the matter, it’s always worth seeing whether there’s anything further to add to your knowledge.

{Ed002's Note - I will try to find it but if he is saying that the State have control over New Astle he is wrong.

Clu good post from you again on this

could you summarise the key points made by journalist Joey Durso (who has an impressive CV I see ) as I am not subscribed to the fee paying Athletic to access it.

Much appreciated if you do.

{Ed007's Note - That won't be happening, that website is just click bait, hitwhoring nonsense to make money. I wouldn't trust the date on it. It's people getting paid to attract hits by any means neccesary. If you want to read it Durso's garbage be a mug and pay for it if you're giving his OPINION credence.}

Well said Ed - The Athletic a very dubious source indeed.

{Ed001's Note - it is a shame it started well but now the 'journalists' spend large portions of their time on twatter dropping clickbait to try and get subscriptions. It has gone from being a worthwhile idea to being just the same as the likes of Bleacher Report or HITC.}

hmm Ed007 interesting albeit slightly surprising reply

all I will say is that I am not familiar at all with Durso's work but I a very much so with former YEP reporter Phil Hay

someone who I respect and have followed for many a year with his YEP posts, appearances on various you tube blogs , who now writes for the Athletic on Leeds United

and Phil Hay is not someone I would readily associate with as you put it 'click bait hot whoring nonsense to make money', but I suppose anything is possible, livings to earn.

{Ed007's Note - You just don't respect him enough to pay to read him eh?}

Ed’s there may be some truth in what you say, but not all articles should be dismissed as clickbait. Ed7 - it would seem D’Urso has previously written something you disagreed with as you clearly have some bitterness towards him - do tell what it was that enraged you so. As Baz says, he does have a decent CV, and has clearly previously worked in the mainstream media covering topics which are relevant to the Toon takeover, so may know where to look for credible, robust info.

{Ed007's Note - I've no idea who D'Urso is but I am aware of the website he writes for and it's clickbaiting ways are well known and a well practiced way of relieving gullible people of their money.}

16 Oct 2021 09:27:34
Ed007 its rather straightforward really I just don' t want to pay any money to access football journalists articles;

but that certainly does not mean that I do not hold Phil Hay in high regard, because I certainly do!

{Ed007's Note - Good for you, I'm sure he appreciates that.}

16 Oct 2021 12:17:13
Ed - is there some reason why my previous reply on this thread was not posted on here?

{Ed007's Note - Yes.}

16 Oct 2021 13:16:29
Ed - In that case, grateful if you could tell me the reason (s) why, so that I can learn from this and try not to submit replies, or posts that, would fall foul of that/ those particular editorial requirement (s) in the future. Thanks.

{Ed007's Note - I wasn't going to waste both our times arguing about the merits of another website.}
