Re the Newcastle takeover : bribed officials at the EPL ?

EPL as dodgy as FIFA under Blatter and Platini?

Its more than reasonable to suggest that cynics and conspiracy theorists are suggesting that there is an almighty stench at the EPL with this hushed and rushed very surprising dubious decision where so much is at stake

I see that the other 19 EPL clubs are demanding an emergency meeting with the EPL.

I would go further and suggest that there needs to be an immediate independent ( criminal) investigation into the EPL and its officials regarding this takeover.

{Ed002's Note - Or perhaps you simply don't understand the matter at all?}

Agree2 Disagree0

09 Oct 2021 20:44:50
Maybe so.

09 Oct 2021 22:00:41
Baz - having made such allegations about Newcastle’s new ownership, you might consider it sensible to watch out for slightly suspect packages or unsolicited visitors coming to your door. Just in case the various outrageous and totally unfounded rumours are true.

10 Oct 2021 00:30:55
Lol I shall Clu.

09 Oct 2021 20:39:37
Ed - Ed1 said you were the expert on the takeover. Does the legal binding undertaking apparently given to the EPL that the Kingdom of Saudi does not own or control the Club mean that if it is found that it actually does own/ control they would be required to sell up?

{Ed002's Note - No it means that they have given assurances that the State and the consortium are separate entities (which they are) even though the PIF (which is a managed pot of State money that can be invested) is part of that consortium. If it transpires that there is third party influence over the club then there would be sanctions against the club - in reality it would cause a huge legal mess.}

10 Oct 2021 09:23:56
Seems that the old saying money talks is true. Regardless of whatever so call rules that are in place, these money rich entities find says to bend or stretch them. Fair play to the Newcastle fans for being excited at expected good times ahead, would we as Leeds fans feel any different if it had happened to our club? . I guess the club's getting most worked up the ones that are already at that table at the thought of another being able to challenge.

10 Oct 2021 10:03:38
Ed - For all the legal separation of entities, with the power vested in the Saudi royal family in respect of most matter within their country, including the PIF, it is very hard to believe that the Kingdom of Saudi does not have influence over the Toon. It would seem the EPL has been overly keen to get yet more money flowing in and doesn’t really give a toss where it comes from. So long as it got assurances (for what their worth) over broadcast piracy it was always going to green flag the takeover.

{Ed002's Note - The State will not be influencing what happens at the football club. It is another diverse investment of PIF who are diversifying from oil (as it is running out).}

10 Oct 2021 11:19:36
But surely with the oil running out the State will be very keen for its diverse investments to succeed. While they may take a back seat, there can be little doubt they will seek to influence the driver (s) - and as a very significant proportion of the consortium’s potential funding will be from the PIF there can be little doubt that the driver (s) will note whatever signals are received. Hard to imagine that the Prince, other Saudi royals and/ or their representatives won’t attend Toon matches and/ or otherwise meet the ‘owners’ and that various Club matters won’t be discussed with them on such occasions.

{Ed002's Note - There is not an issue with attending the occasional game and discussing matters with the owners - that is nothing to do with State interference.}

10 Oct 2021 13:46:05
Good posts Mezzer and Clu.

10 Oct 2021 12:36:49
I suspect the owners and fans of the other 19 clubs will not share that view, and honestly I don’t think you could blame them.

{Ed002's Note - The Premier League clubs are meeting to discuss their concerns - but it won't include the owners of the clubs and it won't include state interference. I really don't get why you are so bothered about this.}

10 Oct 2021 14:23:19
So if it won’t include the owners of the clubs and won’t include State interference, who and what will the meeting include?

And frankly, if you don’t get why I and so many others (including Amnesty International) are bothered about this, WHAT DO YOU GET?

As they say, if it looks like a duck, and it swims like and it quacks like a £@€.

{Ed002's Note - Meeting between the clubs never include the owners of the clubs. State interference is not something they will be discussing - that is not the concern that other clubs have. Their issue is over the "fit and proper persons" test that put the Premier League and the Government in a difficult position given that he has been involved with significant civil rights concerns, repression of women's rights, war mongering, diplomatic issues with numerous countries, mass executions and specifically the murder of Jamal Khashoggi. Pressure has resulted in the UK Government and Premier League shifting their stance slightly allowing the sale to go ahead based on the rather subtle argument that the consortium and the Saudi state are separate entities.

As you are getting obnoxious now I would recommend not posting anymore about something you don't understand.}

10 Oct 2021 15:20:54
Ed002 What makes you think that oil is running out?

{Ed002's Note - There is a finite amount of refinable oil - the Saudi's estimate about 70 years worth. They have reserves larger than that but it is similar to the Canadian oil and is limited on usage.}

10 Oct 2021 16:06:08
Ed002 My ❤️ bleeds for them.

10 Oct 2021 17:49:40
With technologies about such as electric cars, a worldwide push toward carbon friendlier fuels amd the West's constant desire to hold the power in the world we will also move away from oil regardless of how much there is. Oil's days are numbered whichever way you look at it.

10 Oct 2021 18:19:33
Ed002 I honestly do not think Clu was being obnoxious he was obviously declaring a reasonable view (albeit passionately) given the Saudi states very questionable recent history, abuses of human rights.

As a Leeds supporter I genuinely would not be pleased to take the untold millions this consortium will provide.

However, I think many, many Leeds supporters could easily park these known issues for the chance of untold riches and emanating the likes of Citeh in the future.

It’s not clear if you’re a toon supporter Ed002, but after the dire reign of Ashley I genuinely understand why people can attempt to paint an acceptable version of this takeover.

Sadly, the super league debacle has shown that money isn’t everything in this league, it’s the only thing.!

The EPL and UEFA, FIFA, FA have all shirked every single moral issue (racism) rather than risk damaging the golden gravy train. (Qatar World Cup! )

I honestly cannot blame the average Newcastle supporter for cheering the takeover, as I say I’m probably jealous of the money they will have to spend, but given the length of the cover up of the kashoggi murder (witneseses disappeared) the state would sooner sacrifice human life than have people realise they’re one and the same regime taking on this club.

If you can articulate an argument that the money somehow separate and is not tainted by the human rights atrocities I’ll gladly hold my hands up and apologise, but for me it’s another sad day for our supposed best league in the world and just hastens the likelihood of the end of the English football pyramid, to leave only a few elite play things for owners who have zero interest in the grass roots supporter.

{Ed002's Note - So why did he feel to say "WHAT DO YOU GET?" to me. I know a light year more abot this than the clueless cretin.}

10 Oct 2021 21:32:16
One thing is for sure is that the Newcastle takeover is or has gone ahead, like it or not. The Saudi states involvement in whatever form with this takeover is always likely to be divisive to some. Our government over the years has loved doing business with them over arms sales regardless of their human rights record. Fact is like it or not it's happening, in a year or two will we even be bothered. It will just make winning against Newcastle even sweeter just like against Man city last season. At the end of the day, rightly or wrongly most of us do a days work, come home enjoy a pint of two and watch our football. We haven't got time to sit a block the motorway to the North East!

Very good post Class I entirely agree with all of your excellent post .

I too don't believe that Clueless was ( most certainly not intentionally at least ) being 'obnoxious' to ED002 .

Clu and I have had many posts of disagreements between us BUT I can honestly state that I have never felt Clu was ever obnoxious in any of his posts. Never. If anything he comes across as quite a mild mannered gent.

Ed002 you state that Clueless was being ' obnoxious' then in return refer to him as a ' cretin'?! Hmmmm.

{Ed002's Note - Perhaps he should not of been embarrassing and obnoxious.}

10 Oct 2021 21:46:25
I don’t dispute your detailed knowledge of the situation Ed002 and capitals are never the right way to go, but forensic knowledge of the deal cannot erase the facts of the matter that there is no whitewashing the atrocities of this state no matter how many off shore accounts or ghost funding structures it says prove separation, it stinks.

I genuinely don’t believe it was a personal affront to you ed002 (have said capitals never good) just think Clu was stating how can the epl look past all this and pass them for the appropriate owners test?

I notice Stavely has done very much the same thing in her interviews to date when challenged on the same point she says we know all this, we recognise and abhor such atrocities …. But we’re going to make a great club great again…. oh that’s ok then.

Nothing personal Ed002 as I said in my previous post think the only reason the other clubs are kicking up is they have they are completely threatened and jealous of Newcastle they certainly have no morals but this lot shine the Glazers in a good light.

{Ed002's Note - A good post and I generally agree. Clueless questioned what I know - he was picking at things the did not understand.}

10 Oct 2021 22:37:43
Football to us fans is a passion. To the owners of the league and the majority of the clubs it's a business.

10 Oct 2021 23:04:24
Ed - Clearly we were talking at crossed purposes, for which apologies. I assure you I am no cretin, and having in my previous employment advised Ministers within a number of Government Departments, I may well know rather more than you think.

I suspect I’m not the only one for whom it seemed very much as if the legal assurances re the State not actually owning/ controlling the Club were made, at least in part, to get round the widespread and understandable ‘fit and proper persons’ concerns.
