Given our situation at the time James and Firpo were unnecessary. Or Harrison if you prefer James. If Alioski determined to go Dallas could have filled in there (he is expected to do that in midfield) or a youngster upgrade. We have Rhaphinia, James Harrison and Summerville for wingers. We have Harrison on the bench and bring on Roberts. ie wing positions ok. Mid field we have Phillips, Dallas, Klich and Rodrigo (when Bamford is fit) . We are actually bringing on Roberts to change the game or give us a bit more going into the latter stages. It's not right. The players were unnecessary because we have a limited budget and far greater priorities.

A specialist CAM ( we don't have one)
A CM and
A striker

Any of the above more essential than signing DJ.

Hess, So no firpo, u say Dallas, then whose his back up, we would have no natural LB,
No james means if we lost harrison or raph we have who to cover, Jimmy or Costa,
I agree a mid was required, but don't see an arguement for not signing firpo or James
IMO
To compete in this league ideally u need 2 of every position who can do it at this level, BIELSA loves a small squad, so we need utility players.
Alot on here say our squad is not up to it but yet u feel we don't need 2 of them?
I know its everyone's own opinion and I appreciate it.

The issue is 'priorities' and the least damage done. We did not want/ need two players less in the squad just different ones. Not sure if Alioski wanted to go or not but in the current situation we would have been better keeping him and strengthening the squad elsewhere - not necessarily wingers.

I’m happy with both DJ and Firpo, but agree with Baz that those other 3 positions should have been filled as well.

03 Oct 2021 18:27:13
Baz
25 million for James, would we if got any of those positions for that, wouldn't if got a championship striker for that.

03 Oct 2021 20:54:02
richie

plenty of good value good quality players available for well under £25 million in the dutch and french leagues as we know from signing Raphinia for a bargain £18 million

goal scoring midfielder dutch international teun koopmeiners goalscoring midfielder 34 goals in the past 3 seasons went for just £11 million in the summer.

1 in 4 in the Dutch league?
Atlanta in the champions league.

I think Rodrigo came as a striker. I guess after Championship season Bamford didn’t seem as a first choice.
Dallas was great last season in midfield, so in the summer I would prefer him staying there. So did most of the fans I guess and Bielsa probably.
Alioski was the weakest defender of all, so I was happy we got Firpo. Although I would keep Alioski as his passion was quite important in the dressing room.
Well Firpo is underwhelming at the moment. That’s why everyone is so disappointed we got LB, and not any other player for the positions we need to strengthen.
I agree CAM should be the priority! Rodrigo seams not that bad, but he is our record signing… I was expecting much more from him.
So CAM was a priority for me. If we got one I would be ok with no new CM (if Dallas played like he used to last season) .
LB was a priority as well for me.
Wingers… I hoped to see Summerville more often. But it’s true, I we lose Rapha or Harrison we are different team. So maybe James is not a bad move….

Hess - yes Alioski did want to go - wanted more money than we were able to offer, as it’s likely to be his last move.

And while we’re on the subject of players leaving, can we cover one of Baz’s favourite myths, that Bielsa’s handling of Hernandez last season led him to leave. Hernandez wasn’t ostracised from the team, by Bielsa, just dropped for one game, after which they had a clear the air chat, following which he was injured.

Hernandez wanted to leave at the end of last season, principally as he wanted to be with his wife and son, who had returned to Spain due to c.v. In addition, CD Castellón, which he part owns were very keen for him to join them - having first tried to get him to return last January, to help them stave off relegation. Also Pablo realised his body wasn’t up to doing weekly murderball anymore.

clueless were you privy to these alleged ' clear the air talks ' do tell all

pablo not playing, not being picked, being an unused sub by Bielsa ever since the Leicester game ( apart from his 9 minute cameo subs appearance against Newcastle when he created 2 goals)

were the key reason for Pablo deciding to leave Leeds one year early from his contract; Phil Hay and others have said as much in their podcasts in March, April 2021. We also had Pablos wife defend her husband Pablo on several occasions on her twitter account stating that Pablo was NOT injured and intimating there were other reasons ( Bielsa) why he was not selected to play.

indeed even Bielsa's farewell tribute to Pablo, Bielsa sheepishly apologised admitted that he felt responsible for Pablo not getting more EPL games, that he deserved to play more EPL games.

the final EPL game of the 2020/ 21 EPL season in which Man of the Match Pablo shone for the entire 70 minutes proving that he was still worthy of a place, it was also interesting to watch Bielsa seemingly deliberately ignore Pablo whilst Pablo was being hugged by the entire backroom team of Bielsa, leaving the field of play. Classless display by Bielsa for a LUFC LEGEND PABLO HERNANDEZ.

So the relationship was seemingly understandably damaged irreparably once bielsa had perversely refused to pick Pablo virtually at all from the Leicester game.

anyway its happened but I feel sure that if Bielsa had picked Pablo more, he his wife and his child would still be here in Leeds, Pablo playing in front of his beloved Leeds fans for one more season 2021/ 2022 fulfulling his last year of his contract before before going home to Spain and playing for Castellon ( whom with respect, Leeds United they most certainly are not )

04 Oct 2021 11:23:38
Baz - Bielsa is always saying things are his fault in respect of selections, even saying he ‘feels very guilty’ - said the same re Gotts other fringe players who he felt were good enough to deserve selection, but for whom he had been able to provide such opportunities, not being specifically sheepish re Hernandez in saying that. Merely means he made the calls re selection, and where Hernandez was concerned, the greater imperative was to get a tune out of Tyro and Rodrigo, as they were the longer term investments for the team/ Club.

Most unlike you to quote Phil Hay. The information I provide re Hernandez is also sourced from Phil Hay - not just some musings of my own imagination.

By the way, I would far rather that we recalled Mateusz Bogusz from Ibiza than sit wistfully thinking about Pablo, who is far happier playing for his beloved boyhood team whilst he still has the legs to do so, then playing a round or two on the family’s golf course in sunny Spain rather than pushing himself through another Wednesday murderball session preparing to play the likes of Watford in the pouring rain.

Talking of the young Pole, he apparently played well yesterday but couldn’t prevent UD Ibiza going down to a 3-1 away loss at Eibar.

04 Oct 2021 14:08:13
clueless

no musings of imagination ; just facts ; plain for all to see the relationship was broken due to Bielsa

and your comparison Clueless with Gotts etc is not a good one

Bielsa was being very insincere about Robbie Gotts and Jordan Stevens, neither of whom were good enough

whereas Bielsa knowing the opposite was still the case with Pablo as with his Man of the Match farewell EPL performance outshining everyone else on the pitch with his creative talent and supreme technique and proving more than fit enough to play 70 minutes effortlessly making an absolute mockery of perverse Bielsa's ostracising him all season

as for Boguzs . maybe . but hey how about your old mucka VO and MB do something radical and sign a ready made specialist CAM . or would that solve the problem far too easily for them.
