I see Klich has said Koch and Llorente are both very close to a return. I know there seems to be a narrative that both are very injury prone, so some may think, so what if they return ‘cos the next injury will be just around the corner.

Looking at Koch’s previous injury history, in the 4 seasons before he joined us he’d only had two injuries of more than two weeks, (18 days and 36 days) . The knee injury he picked up shortly after joining us was from a match situation that can and does happen to many players during any one season, and was not due to any pre-existing weakness, and a bruised pubic bone is another injury often picked up by footballers, especially during strength training.

Clueless, my only hope is that the two of them talk more! Make sure that one is fit when the other is wanting to be injured.

As they are both right footed international centre backs they can be a seamless fit for each other's injuries and both great mentors to the legend-in-waiting that is Struick.

We have been unlucky with them so far, but rather that sort of unlucky, were we have a few backup options, than Meslier being injured.

Pressed send by mistake before finishing the comment above. Was going to say there is nothing in Koch’s injury record before or since joining us to suggest he is specifically prone to injury.

Moving on to Llorente, it is true that in 2018/ 19 he had 4 periods of injury, for a total of 122 days, or 15 matches. During that season he had surgery following a fracture of his fibula, and an ankle arthroscopy. In the previous 5 seasons he had a total of only 3 injuries, accounting for 58 days, missing only 7 matches, and in 2019/ 20 ( the season before he joined us he was injured only once, for 38 days, missing 8 matches, and starting 28, for most of which he played the full 90 minutes - suggesting he was fully recovered from his surgery. It has been suggested that the injuries since he joined us are indicative of his body taking time to adjust to the higher intensity of Prem football, and the even higher intensity of Bielsaball. Whether the previous surgery would make him more prone to muscle injury during this adjustment is presumably something Rob Price’s team will have considered during his medical.

Axe - not just mentoring Pascal (Van) Struijk, but also Charlie (ton) Cresswell - who should start today v Fulham, and now Leo (-Inge) Hjelde (land) who’s settled in well already with the U23s and has previously had senior experience in the Scottish Prem. Obviously the latter is not of Prem standard, but not bad to be playing at that level when only aged 17. We definitely have some decent prospects coming through at CB.

I'm pretty sure Koch was carrying carrying an injury when we bought him hence the low price. He may have aggravated it with us but I bet he already had an issue. We must have got him hoping it a) would go away in time or b) would be easy to fix. Anyway eventually Koch had to have an op on it and has struggled to get back to fitness since. Llorente also had poor records in previous seasons in the slower Spanish league so an accident waiting to happen imo.

No Alf, Koch had a slight back injury towards the end of the season before he joined us, which kept him out of the penultimate game, but he came towards the end of the last game. Apparently he picked up a very slight injury in the first game v Liverpool which he was able to play on with, until the Chelsea game, where another knock significantly aggravated the problem, leading to his time out.

I’ve detailed Llorente’s injuries above, there was one poor season of injuries, which led to surgery. Very little before that season and nothing of significance the following one either, so not correct to say he had poor records previously - which would mean multiple previous seasons with problems.
