George, I pretty sure Orta would have been lining up a move for Edouard until Whelan opened his mouth, which would obviously have made all at Leeds question whether it was a wise move after all.
The decision to offer Whelan a post working with the Foundation was possibly an attempt to get him to concentrate on something he’d be good at and move away from punditry.

Cluey Noel punditry was flawed due to his inability to keep his north shut when it was in the best interests of LUFC. His punditry suffered from a further flaw due to his obstreperous personality - he is irritating no doubt. However, he's an ex-player and clearly knows a thing or two. He ought to move away from punditry but his Celtic suggestion was on point and an error by the hierarchy not to follow up.

I seem to recall there were a lot of stories about us being in for Edouard last summer, which may or may not have had any truth in them, though it seems likely Orta and his team would have investigated the possibility, given his good form in 2019/ 20. It could be we enquired about his availability- hence the stories - but a move was subsequently blocked by Bielsa. Given that Bielsa personally rang Rodrigo, it maybe that he was (after his own analysis) dead set on bringing him in rather than someone like Edouard. Bielsa’s keenness to bring in Rodrigo may partly explain why we were prepared to pay the fee we did.

I think Rodrigo was brought in as a front man but nobody predicted Bamford to have such a stellar season which gave us the issue of having a 27million pound striker with no place in the team for him.

I quite liked Whelan on the radio. It's not the same these days. At least he has a personality.
