I see Haaland scored a hat-trick for Norway yesterday.

It just helps to show that Orta clearly didn’t know what he was doing when Leeds tried to sign the lad from Molde in 2019, bringing him across here to look round all the Club’s facilities etc. Lucky for us eh, that Red Bull Salzburg were able to hijack our move, with more cash than we could afford and the opportunity to play in the Champions League rather than Championship.

yeah impressive IF only

followed up instead also in 2019 when VO

1) gives away our top scorer Kemar Roofe for relative peanuts to Anderlecht

2) signs Eddie Nketia on loan from Arsenal without ensuring that it is a full year loan with no recall

3) and then when Nketia is indeed recalled early VO blows £21 million ( loan fees and transfer fee ) on a guy who plays a grand total of 40 odd minutes in the transfer of the millennium ( for all the wrong reasons ) in JKA

yep VO is a frikking genius CLU.

Baz - I’ve never said Orta hasn’t made mistakes - you’d be pretty hard pressed to find a DoF that hadn’t. Yes, he probably could have got more for Roofe.

BUT you can be pretty sure probably Arsenal would not have let Nketiah come at all without a recall clause. Let’s not bore everyone else by rehashing the discussion re JKA - suffice to say your supposed 🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩 don’t bear much scrutiny.

Oh, it would seem you still haven’t replied to Canada’s question on who you’d bring in replace Orta.

Clueless VO could have done something revolutionary and find a striker available on loan for the entire season with no recall clause its not as if Nketia was suited to Leeds style of play anyway

also I said at the time that rather than give Roofe away for relative peanuts Leeds were better off keeping him in his final year . (if VO had or had secured a striker on loan for entire season Leeds would have saved themselves £21 million black hole JKA debacle )

yep you are correct VO has made mistakes aplenty.

and as for a DoF instead of VO

well Fabio Paratici would have been awesome a very impressive CV of achievements over many years.

Baz your post above settles the whole debate for me.

cheers Leeds1970.

Congrats Baz, you managed to name another DoF.

However, most people hiring a new employee would look beyond the cv, to check whether the basic ‘facts’ fully reflects reality.

Up to 2018, Paratici operated under Giuseppe Marotta, who was CEO at Juve, who apparently did much of the heavy lifting in terms of transfer strategy etc. When Marotta left, Paratici was given more of a free rein over transfers.

The view in Italy seems to be that he was reasonably good at bringing in talent, though that was probably not too difficult for him to do in a club challenging at the top of SerieA, and regularly involved in European football, and the likes of De Ligt and Chiesa were not exactly unknown talents.

Where he is thought to have fallen down, when left to his own devices, is building a balanced squad, with concerns specifically over the lack of quality cover in the centre of the park. His judgment has been caused into question in bringing in Aaron Ramsey on very significant wages, particularly given his injury history, and to a slightly lesser degree on the wages offered to Adrien Rabiot.

His judgment has been particularly questioned on his dealings over Cristian Romero, who was bought from Genoa for €26m in 2019 and, after a year with Juve to bring on his development, loaned to Atalanta with an option to buy of around €18m - which Atalanta duely exercised. What will presumably further enrage Juve fans is that, now at Spurs, Paratici has taken Romero on loan from Atalanta, apparently with an option to buy, presumably for rather more than the €18m Paratici secured for Juve - some estimate his value to be currently around €60m given his performances at Atalanta and with Argentina in the Copa America.

While failing to get good value, indeed losing money on rising star Romero, he also apparently struggled to shift deadwood.

So basically your criticisms of Orta could also be levelled at Paratici if you bother to look beyond his ‘cv’, and many of his greatest achievements could be put down to working under a good transfer strategist at a European powerhouse.

Ok better still for the good of Leeds United send in your suggestion to Radz as a better option than Uncle Victor.

08 Sep 2021 13:28:00
Nuff said really.

08 Sep 2021 13:53:49
Aah the old Roofe argument, I mean he's doing so well in a league that equivalent to League 1.
Roofe wanted to leave and did so to a weaker league where he did OK but then left again to an even weaker league.
Finally an answer Baz, I'm sure you'd have loved it if we sign Ramsey and Anelka. Like any DoF your eventual nominee has a list of failures and successes. I'm sure someone will be bothered to create a list of his failings to keep this nonsense going.

Canada you are off point entirely : keeping Roofe for a final season would have prevented the Victor Orta £21 million JKA shambles

paratici was a suggestion, but as I said before finding a very good D of F is purely the task of a ruthlessly ambitious chairman

one thing is for sure even with Bielsa Leeds United will regress rather than progress this season and next under uber complacent PR Radz and truly incompetent/ mediocre Victor Orta.
