For those of you who would rather we’d brought in Lang than Dan James, Phil Hay has now reported that Bielsa blocked any move for Lang because he wasn’t convinced he would be able to provide enough on the defensive role he requires of our wingers.

Whilst on the subject of Bielsa blocking potential signings, I seem to remember that when we were in the Championship, there was quite a lot of criticism on here, and elsewhere, of Orta’s ‘failure’ to bring in a proven goalscorer at that level who would have been almost guaranteed to score the number of goals required to achieve promotion. A couple of weeks ago, Hay revealed that Orta had actually identified a number of such players: Murray, Sharp etc and presented these options to Bielsa. On being told that each of them would be able score the goals needed, Bielsa’s response was, ‘but can they do what Bamford does? ”

Maybe that insight will give some of the most fervent Orta critics on here a little pause for thought.

The recruitment system at Leeds for me could perhaps be more efficient and specific

as doesn't Bielsa have dossiers on most footballers in world football

So rather than Orta awasting time suggesting players to Bielsa that he doesn't want ,

it makes more sense for Bielsa to give Orta a list of players he actually would like, that actually would fit.

Brighty Bielsa Blocker! 😆.

That's exactly one of the issues Clu - Orta consistently wasting time and money on 'targets' who are not suitable. When he does get his way and succeed in bringing players to the club that Bielsa doesn't really want they generally turn out to be flops such as Poveda and Rodrigo.

JKA too Alf
clearly an Orta choice that Bielsa regretfully agreed to god knows why
the recruitment process / system is flawed at Leeds with Orta.

I think Bielsa says what he wants, Orta goes and find what he thinks are suitable targets then presents a list to Bielsa and says you have to choose from that lot. Perhaps for Bielsa if it's choosing one or nothing he sometimes has to choose but if the options are poor to start with then it's always going to be tough.

Alf - my point is that Orta critics can’t have it both ways. When he wasn’t bringing in a tried and tested Championship striker to get us promoted, everyone was piling onto him saying he didn’t know what he was doing. Then when you find out he was actually trying to bring in such a striker but Bielsa blocked it, you criticise him for not scouting for players Bielsa wanted.

The solution is to find a player that can deliver the goods and Bielsa likes. I mean, that's Orta's job, its all he has to do all year, gets very well paid to do it and still can't seem to deliver. If I was that unproductive in my work I'd be living on the streets with no income by now.
