Leeds United have lost their legal battle with RB Leipzig over Jean-Kevin Augustin, but are likely to appeal.

This will drag on for ages yet, court of arbitration for sport will be the next stop not a kangaroo fifa court!

Technically speaking we are in the right, we had to extend loans from the May/ season end until end July due to c.v. extending the season. We therefore gained promotion after the agreed end of loan date so if using c.v. as the excuse to have to extend any loans then that should work both ways and therefore the none extension of JKA’s loan should result in the termination of the obligation to buy.

Even if we do lose we definitely won’t end up paying the full tilt, and I remember last summer the club stating that the money was set aside and would not effect the summer transfer budget and I’d fully expect that to remain the case.

Interesting analysis Me, which do you consider more likely

1) Leeds winning the appeal with CAS ruling Leeds are legally not obliged to make any payment to Leipzig

2) A partial payment award to Leipzig

I too would be very surprised if CAS ordered Leeds to pay the full amount given the legal arguments put forward you described.

None of us actually know how the agreement was worded.
We all know lawyers like a good argument, a bit like Baz and Whacky/ Dave so it will go all the way to the top court for sure 😄.

Bad I think it will be a partial payment. Compensation I’d say 25% to 50% of the previously agreed fee.
I mean to me it’s clear that if loans had to be extended of which some did involve additional fees to cover the extension of last season, then surely that works has the same effect on those loans not extended. This meaning loan is over, promotion not yet gained = void of transfer obligation due to the loan expiring on the exact date stated in the contract and not at the seasons end.
Yes me maybe have a moral case to answer but I’m not so sure there’s a legal one. And we all know fifa and their hypocrisy.

I agree me if it stated a date and no end of season wording, but we aren't sure of that.
Your logic makes total sense if there is a date specified.

I always agree with Me, too.
