Orta claims that our current squad is as good as the one that got us to the Champs league semi finals. A comment that is almost blasphemous in my opinion. Fair enough big up the current squad but if he thinks our squad now is that good then we are massively underachieving surely?

Agree2 Disagree0

Agree. Think that team were bucket loads better. We have a mid table team atm. Not euro or top prem by a long long way.

30 May 2021 14:06:51
Disagree a tad

As the EPL now is a fair bit stronger in quality than the EPL of 20 years ago.

This Bielsa Leeds United just as good as the OLeary team which despite playing very entertaining football at l times also crucially and annoyingly had costly defensive frailties.

I would back the Bielsa Leeds team of 2020/ 21 to beat the Oleary Leeds team of 2000/ 2001

and definitely to beat the Oleary Leeds team of 2001/ 2002 which alarmingly had in that season serious defensive deficiencies the disastrous Newcastle home game a perfect example.

30 May 2021 14:39:25
We certainly didn't have an easy route to that semi final, so if Ortas claim is true notonly is the EPL stronger the whole of Europe are as well.

30 May 2021 14:48:26
Who in this team would you swap.

30 May 2021 15:15:46
Orta claim wrong. However, if we strengthen correctly in the summer, he'll be right. Silly thing for him to say as a prerequisite for playing CL football is finishing the season in at least 4th spot. Buy the right 4 or 5 players over the next couple of months and Victor will be right.

30 May 2021 15:39:10
Yes Alf I do believe the rest of Europe has improved too.

But it is the cash rich EPL ( and some mega rich EPL owners) which is particularly strong as evidenced by 3 EPL teams contesting the Champions League final and Europa League Final

Even EPL 8th placed Arsenal reached the Europa League semis which makes El Magico Leeds United 9th place finish even more impressive.

Aus, it is about the collective, the team not about individuals although I rate Oleary he is no Bielsa . Bielsa's Leeds to beat Oleary Leeds especially Oleary 2001/ 2 team

Georgey there isn't much between the teams for you to be so dismissive of Ortas suggestion.

30 May 2021 19:07:51
Hope I'm wrong but is Orta saying this squad as good as Euro Semi Finalists, is this him playing the foundations for a pretty uneventful transfer window.
Like I said hope I'm over thinkin it.

30 May 2021 21:21:59
Orta is nothing but a self publicist. He is essentially bigging HIMSELF up which has obvious gains for one person- Orta. Papering over the cracks of his awful transfers ans maybe even claiming we don't need to spend any money strengthening because he would rather pay himself in bonuses than put the money into the squad. It stinks and he stinks. Nuff said.

You can’t compare, different era of football.

Lol Alf hilarious rant calm down love 😜

I wasnt Orta's biggest fan but give him credit he has improved considerably in the past year on transfer recruitment!

As for your hilarious rant prediction re Orta perhaps not signing anyone well there are now in the past week new very wealthy very AMBITIOUS new Leedz United board members, one would think they and Radz would 100% expect for Leeds United to significantly further increase the quality of the team with at least 3 quality signings this summer.

Relaxxxxxx Alf 😉.

Alf - yes some of Orta’s signings have not been great, but I think only four of the regulars in last season’s squad were not brought in by him (KP, Coops, Bill and Cookstown Cafu) so even you must accept that Orta must have brought in some decent players for us to come 9th.

More importantly, however, it was Orta’s idea to bring in Bielsa. He already had contacts with him having previously tried to get him in to Seville and Zenit St Petersburg. Happily for us, unlike the previous two attempts, the Leeds project really appealed to Bielsa. It is noticeable that the success rate of signings has gone up since Bielsa arrived It may be that having such a clear philosophy and way of playing makes it easier to identify players who the manager/ head coach will be able use most effectively.

It will also help that Bielsa is a far better coach than Christensen or Heckinbottom will ever be. Luckily for us, Klich (one of Orta’s early signings) had the strength of character to return from being discarded on loan by Christensen to play such a key role under Bielsa. It is possible that some of Orta’s other early signings might have fared better had they been under Bielsa’s expert eye and tutelage when they first arrived, though clearly we’ll never know,

I would suggest you listen to Orta’s recent interview on The Phil Hay podcast on The Athletic. It might help persuade you that he is not in this just for himself, and that actually he does have the best interest of Leeds at heart. If you’ve watched Take us Home, you should have noted the passion he brings to his job here, for example, you can’t fake his reaction to the Dan James saga. His passion also comes across if you listen to what Radrizzani, Kinnear and the players say about their interaction with Orta.

Ok guys fair enough perhaps I have been hasty. If we have a good window this year I will admit I made a mistake.
