It won't surprise me if Koch and Phillips are both playing next season, with Phillips in more of an 8 role.

Koch nowhere near good enough as a DM. 🇨🇦 surprised by your view. In time, KP could be a decent number 8 but if he plays in that position you lose an international class number 4. Right move is to recruit a specialist reserve defensive midfielder as cover.

Tend to agree with you Cana. Koch did not disgrace himself when standing in for KP and with a few more games under his belt may well shine. This would then free up KP to flourish in a more advanced role and, should the need arise, allow for a 5 at the back formation.

Canada, just so you know, I agree with your assessment. The lad Koch did all the fundamentals that are required from any Premier League standard central defensive midfielder. In fact I would go far as to say he outshone many of the top CDMs in his physicality and aerial prowess. So in certain ways he was an improvement on what we have there already.

George, he has done far better in that role than anyone we have except Phillips and it took him some time. I have no doubt that he will get better and better under Bielsas tutelage.
Now, I didn't say I wanted them both in those roles George, I said I wouldn't be surprised so also have no issue with us recruiting a new midfielder but it needs to be an 8 over a 4.

Don't see why my view so controversial. I'm comparing him to KP. That's the correct comparison to make. He isn't as good. I'm a big fan of KP. I'm the opposite to Berm. Koch did an admirable job when played there but he's no KP. Keep Koch as a central defender in my opinion, first reserve for me to Llo and Struick. I do think Koch is effective in a DM role from sub bench when Bub wants to flood midfield and close game out but he just don't have KP's fluidity in that role.

Hence the reason why every post after then questioned your sanity.
Not being as good as KP doesn't make any player "nowhere near good enough as a DM. " Obviously ypu didn't expand your statement to include a reference to KP which would have made your original statement less nonsensical but still wouldn't have explained why you go on to question Canada's viewpoint.
On a personal note I can't see how you would come to you original conclusion of Koch not being a DM as his stats for the game he played are very good.

Axe Questioning my sanity because of my view about defensive midfield? Yup, I'm sure that's the barometer at all psychological science forums. Not.
I'd have thought my KP assessment bar was implicit from first post but can see why it was not. In my opinion, Bielsa's system is heavily reliant on the skills of KP. Without him, we're not as good. Stats support this. Like I said, I'm very opposite to Berm. Koch an adequate deputy for a game or two as a fill in but wouldn't surprise if results in those games were draws or losses. For me, KP is key. He's most important cog in machine. Not many players in world can replace him.
So now that out of way, is this the part where you run me off the board?
