So just read a few posts about Orta below and want to put things into perspective as we all get caught up and miss the bigger picture sometimes.
If he came to us in May 2017 then he was here for the 2017/ 18 transfer season and since that time if we ignore last summer as that was as a PL club his net spend was actually a 17 million profit!

So he brought in 17 m more than he spent and got us from championship mediocrity to the promised land.
Has he made some errors, yup, but we have nothing to complain about!

Interesting figures Canada, I guess that profit comes mainly from the 2018 summer teenager window selling Chris Wood and Charlie Taylor for £22 million plus.

In reality the major signing that Orta made that got Leeds up was El Magico Bielsa.

05 May 2021 05:37:27
Correct 🇨🇦.

05 May 2021 06:14:59
What is that based on? Are you saying the club made more money than we spent based on sales? Surely all that means is we sold our talent?

05 May 2021 02:45:19
Said the same numerous times Canada. When you get right down to it, of the 'failure signings' (Not counting u23s) , only really Costa has cost us big money, most of them have been frees or less than £2m, you could sell Bamford for the combined spend of them all.
Hits - Raphinha, Jansson, Koch, Saiz, Alioski, Struik, Bamford, Mesilier, Llorente, Harrison, Ekuban (ok a stretch but we made a profit so I'm counting it)
Misses - Costa, Sacko, Casilla, Wiedwald, Anita, Cibicki, De Bock, Douglas
(Giving Forshaw, Roberts, Rodrigo and Koch a pass due to injuries, not seen enough)
On balance I think he's done an exceptional job, especially when you factor in Bielsa.

Good post Gummie, except one point re your exemptions in your list of ' misses '

Orta really needs to stop signing players who have history of lengthy or/ serious injuries : Forshaw, Roberts, Rodrigo and Llorente all had, and guess what they have all missed numerous matches for Leeds especially Forshsaw

So I would for now at least include Forshaw definitely on your list of misses.

05 May 2021 10:13:48
Well said and 110% agree with you Canada and gumie. Just getting in Bielsa does it!

05 May 2021 10:23:12
Pretty sure Jansson was pre-Otra and a Garry Monk signing.

05 May 2021 10:24:41
Don't forget the flop JKA who we spent millions on in wages and loan fee and it may still cost us another £18m.

05 May 2021 10:30:13
And yes I think we got such good deals on Koch and Llorente as the selling clubs knew there were injury issues there. Koch was definitely carrying his injury when he arrived and he has barely featured. Long term he may come good or the injury could flare up again but I'm sure a more astute scout would have been able to invest that sum in a player who could actually have played for us. At the moment the gamble seems to have worked as we stayed up and Koch and Llorente seen to be over the worst so fingers crossed over the next few years we will gain from that risk.

05 May 2021 10:44:18
Yes Alf there have been mistakes but that happens at every club but the long and short is even if we pay for JKA we got promotion for 1 million max on player costs, who else has achieved that and without parachute money?

05 May 2021 11:04:49
What about all the ' ones for the future'
And wasnt it Bielsa who got us from championship medeocracy to mid table prem.
Who are the Bielsa signings and who are the Orta signings.

05 May 2021 12:03:18
All of them are Orta signings Rich, Bielsa has said a few times that he says what he wants then Orta comes to him with a list that he thinks fit.
Also the 'ones for the future' we A don't really know who will make it yet (though Drameh, Poveda, Caprille, Davis, Gelhardt, Greenwood, Summerville, etc. All looking good) . Most of the u23 signings have been real cheap or frees so don't need many to work out to justify the spend.

05 May 2021 18:50:15
Gummie you seem to have missed a few good un's in
the miss dept

Ready, steady, here we go

ANITA
BOUY
GROT
LONERGAN
BALBOA
HOSANNAH
DIAZ
MACHUCA
REY
SUDOKI
TEMENUZHKOV
HALME
LASSOGA
IDEGUCHI
DE BOCK
SARKIC
DALBY
MUJICA
AMOR

That's an awful lot of misses in my eyes , yes they weren't big fees involved, but they they still got wages which in turn stopped us from signing quality as books needed to be balanced .

Victor has missed a lot more than he has hit IMO.

05 May 2021 19:30:03
Gummie if you've not seen enough of Roberts to know he's not good enough and offers nothing your a poor judge on that one.

05 May 2021 19:36:58
Didn't miss any Chris, I mentioned De Bock and Anita and said I wasn't doing u23s.
I did miss Lasogga but I didn't do loans (surely that's the point of a loan to buy, to test a player) but if I had you could add White to the hits.
All those young players, represent less than £10m and some we sold at a profit. How many youngsters do big clubs sign that don't make it? 1 or 2 successes from 18 is actually a decent return.

05 May 2021 20:03:19
I've flipped a lot on Tyler, kly. He's only 22 still and I think a season loaned to the champ we would at turn a profit, if not just straight up improve him, either I would count as a win.

05 May 2021 20:05:04
I take your counter points gummie, but IMO players are purchased to improve the buying teams performance firstly, not as a commodity like stocks. + Shares

From that perspective they are way too many duds and way too many transfers that had zero benifit for our 1st team .

We are scant enough on quality and all those players that I mentioned above did was was fill squad numbers + pose for a squad picture in the summer pre season sunshine .

Orta needs to be better on his targets, but big kudos if indeed it was Victor who chose Marcelo . Surely his greatest ever signing if it was Mr Orta 👍.

05 May 2021 20:52:47
JKA cost us nearer £5m in loan fee and wages and did nothing to help us win promotion.

Orta was responsible for Bielsa coming so credit for that.

06 May 2021 20:00:52
Your point about JKA just made me wonder Alf, are people looking at the wrong person to blame on some of the failed players. He came in, obviously wasn't fit and injury prone yet the medical staff passed him on a physical, same for Forshaw, Koch, etc. Lasogga never looked fit either. Cuisance who we failed has played a full season without a problem.
As Baz said we have signed numerous players with injury records, its their job to look at the player and decide whether they think they are unlucky or if its more serious. Maybe we need a new medical team.

07 May 2021 19:34:54
You could have a point there Gummie but I think that sometimes we go for players out of desperation and don't question a deal that seems too good to be true. We aren't blessed with the finances of some other teams so have to take a gamble I guess and with gambling sometimes you win, more often you loose.
