I am now reading retribution, with severe punishments meted out to the big six. Whilst I am all in favour of this in theory, in practice I just cannot think of any punishment that would be fitting, be severe and (most importantly) be enforcable. Without giving the lawyers a field day.
After all, what did the clubs actually do?

Agree hard to see what punishment could be handed out, although saying that it Leeds United were involved in sure they would have gladly say we broke some kind of rule or law as with spygate. Any sanction should be given to the owners of the club as it sounds this farce was instigated by them.

Although they didn’t play a game they still brought the game into disrepute with their plans.
I don’t think it will happen but I do feel it warrants a points reduction next season. 6 points off. With another 6 should they show similar intent.

Big probs leo is that the other clubs must act in unison, so with the 6 renegade clubs the rest don't have the numbers to enact proper sanctions . With the 6 obvs going to stand as 1 I think they are covered by being a block.

Personally don’t think it matters whether they get punished or not. Any investors involved should look at how ineptly this issue has been handled by the clubs involved and withdraw their support now and forever! Scary, how poorly it was conceived and launched. Seemingly no attempt to win over managers, players never mind the fan base. Now is the chance to have some real and purposeful discussions about the future of football in the U. K. and beyond, let’s hope that chance is taken!

Agree Spanish. No thought for their manager, players or fans. Crazy.
How can they expect players to play with the poss of all the sanctions they could face.
So selfish and naive and as you say amateurish.

Should be -30 points.

George they blew a lot of disrespectfull noise but did not action any of the "threats". The worse the authorities could easily charge them with is the disrespect charge. They talked strongly of breaking FA/ Prem rules but never got to implement any before common sense won the day. This then makes it so difficult to pin a strong charge on them. Even harder will be finding a punishment that hits the owners but not The players, the manager or especially, the fans.

In English law, which is applicable because we're in England, it is a trite principle that an attempt is indistinguishable from a completed act. The only reasons why they didn't succeed with their hijacking is due to fan and player power. Their attempted actions warrant a severe points deduction for next season and a hefty fine to be disbursed among lower league clubs. Labeling it merely an act of disrespect is monumentally devoid of the ravages of intellect.

As we can (for many a day) discuss the merits and the weights of each arguement so the fat cat lawyers will be jumping for joy should it ever get to long, drawn out, expensive litigation. Should you be correct in your assertion, and I have no reason to doubt you, then the act of breakaway if actually signed could be damning. The second legal windfall for the lawyers would be the Big Six defending themselves from any punitive punishment. My only wish (and I do not have an answer) is that any punishment targets the owners, and they alone. I do not want to see any supporters vilified. They were as angry as everyone else. Neither should the teams be punished they were as much in the dark as you and I. Points deduction is not the way? altho this may have a financial effect on the decision makers however I feel that any financial loss would be passed on to the innocent supporters.
