Some great debate on here as ever about Bielsa and our style of play.

I think you all know that I love the football we play under Bielsa, but that doesn't mean I don't understand the limitations of how we play or the potential problems we can face because of it. It means I accept those because how we play excites me, makes me want to be at Elland road and watch our games wherever I am in the world.

I remember watching the first few games of Bielsa at Elland Road and feeling the nervousness of all the fans as we passed the ball around the back line not very confidently!

I remember being at Barnsley to watch the under 23s trying to play the same way and making cock up after cock up. There were a few x pros around me laughing about it, saying in their day, playing like that as defenders would have got them sacked.

I remember a team counterattacking us at Elland road and wondering why There was so much space for them to run into and then noticed Alioski still in the opposition penalty area.

That's what you get with Bielsa, he isn't going to change and so far it's got us to the playoffs, championship winners and everyone's second fave premiership team, oh yes and 3 round threes of the FA cup, which probably isn't a coincidence. There will be some bad days, but also lots of absolutely wonderful ones built on sublime performances.

I can understand the views of those who appreciate a different form of football. And perhaps after Bielsa your time will come again. But me, I'm loving it!

Totally agree.

Well said Spanish.

Great post Spanish.

Spanish, as always spot on!

12 Jan 2021 11:05:55
Cannot agree more, well said Spanish.

12 Jan 2021 11:46:59
Absolutely bang on. Doubt if any other style of play would have us 23 points.

12 Jan 2021 13:22:44
Good post Spanish and agree with the crux of your post in the main.

Curious to know Spanish why, who and which' ex pros ' would be at a Barnsley vs Leeds U23 game? ( Unless they were connected/ working for either club or scouting for other clubs) .

12 Jan 2021 13:27:33
agree 100% Spanish,

I think some misunderstand me on here, as I don't explain myself that well at times.

I love Belisa style of football, in fact it has ruined a lot of games for me as I use to watch leeds because I loved them and other football because it was better but now we are the most (or one of the most) exciting and stylish teams to watch,

however as much as i'd love watching leeds as a neutral as a fan it often pains me. I love watching us break teams down on the counter look at the goals we have score who can not love that

however every time we concede from a corner, when we can't break teams down, we when pass all day long and craeate nothing it kills me

I can not understand why belisa can do the difficult so well but can not do the basics some of which are school boy level. I think it is arrogance because he can't be that poor but is that stubborn

and the basics are costing us. if we go down it will be due to the basics and even if we stay up we will all know we could of done better if we managed the basics

Bit off topic but belisa is like Stanivlaski the acting coach, he was the original like Belisa and many followed in his footsteps. However Stan was great but deeply flawed, he needed his ideas tweak which is what misner and stragborg did and they were much better

I just wish we could find a misner or Strasbourg. someone who could follow the great belisa but tweak things so we could be the best we could be

we will always fall on some level while belisa is the gaffer.

12 Jan 2021 13:57:53
I think your misna or strasbourg is Pep Guardiola Bermo. Good luck with getting him.

Its probably not possible to have it both ways - you either have it our way and attack well but leave gaps at the back, or defend well and are boring going forward. Take your pick but like many i'm happy with offensive football.

12 Jan 2021 14:00:34
Hey Berm that last it was more of topic, mars bar, twice and bounty!

In fact it went so far over my head that only mesellier could have reached it.

All joking aside (whisky aside) you do always try to explain your rationale, and other than Voldemort (Phillips) and Bielsa out you have many valid points.

They’re just often the opposite of my own, but hey that’s what makes the Site so good.

Cheers class you response made me laugh, maybe one for the lovvies!

Spanish Pep does fit my metaphors but I rate pep even less than I do Belisa. Pep is for me the most over rated manager at the moment, always at a big club, always spends a fortune and doesn't win anywhere near as much as he should in my opinion. City are the best example of a team who can be brilliant but can flatter to decive

I do disagree it is impossible to have both. look at Liverpool under Klopp who is amazing, they go forward with style but always with purpose (not tippy Tappy) and unlike pep Klopp understands that defenders need to defend which is why they got Van Dyke and not pep's defensive flops. Klopp also understand the importance of the basics and set plays

mournio is another one, maybe the football is a bit duller than leeds but they put three past us and three goals is pretty attacking.

It is possible to have both trouble is belisa like pep doesn't respect that part of the game nor does he focus on it (or if he does he must be useless because it doesn't show on the pitch) .

A few tweaks on the belisa system and you would have football perfection

look at the old school defenders, you had one big and strong and one who could play

white big and strong, failclough a touch of class, Charlton big and strong hunter/ bobby Moore a touch of class. now days managers like pep want keepers who can pass a ball even if they can't save it (clownieo bravo) and defenders who can pass even if they can't defend (John stones) like most things in life a bit of balance goes a long way.

Bazooka, the x pros were scouting I think but sometimes like Harte they turn up as agents. One of the defenders was a big brute of a guy that I thought I recognised as x Sheffield Utd. He actually made the comment that one game he tried to dribble out of defence and lost the ball. At half time the boss called him and shouted at him, what the hell do you think you were trying to do - we don’t pay you to do that, just get rid! Good story even if only half true!

12 Jan 2021 18:34:46
love that spanish we don't pay you for that get rid. man after my own heart. Same with poor mealier not good with ball at his feet so stop giving it to him at feet and just let him save the shots!

12 Jan 2021 19:29:31
Don't just look at Klopp - look at the players too. i'd we had the defenders Liverpool had last season and the midfielders in front of them we would probably concede a few less.

12 Jan 2021 20:08:26
Spot on Alf.

12 Jan 2021 20:37:02
Very true Alf but style and tactics count for a lot last year we were useless in defence. We had clean sheets but lit of the ball we still couldn’t defend set plays or when we didn’t have the ball that well

Against weaker teams we can’t defend. that is not just players our players should keep clean sheet against Crawley and the likes

It’s not just goals we concede but the way we concede them.

12 Jan 2021 21:20:58
I know which football I would pay for and it's not hoofball tactics I know where sloppy at times but Mr Bielsa is playing this way with mostly a championship squad 4 more quality players next season MOT boys n girls.

12 Jan 2021 23:37:21
Wigan as someone who has spent thousands watching Leeds lose and not seen us win since early 00 the football I would rather watch is the football when we win

As for the goals I enjoy watching the most. I pretty mush love all the ones we score and hate all the ones we concede.
