I've now calmed down and reflected and it was an entirely different XI we put out, Rodrigo has only been with us a couple weeks and we lent out of EFL cup at that stage last 2 seasons and we had great seasons so onwards and upwards hopefully we get the win against Fulham and then kickstart the season.

Mighty a win against Fulham to kick start our accumulation of points
Plus the recruitment of three further quality additions to our first team squad to cover injuries etc

So so glad we are out of the cup
Cant see as we had any interest in being in by the team selection and the positional arrangements that were set out
To my eyes this was just a run out for those players that haven't been and aren't to be used in the PL games coming up
Only Rodrigo could be said to be 1st XI, so for him it was a stretch of the legs and get him used to being the lone striker in a Leeds team. But even then, he didn't have the service that he will get from all the little intricate pods that Bielsa's systems provide.
With a small PL squad the last thing we need would be a first teamer being injured so early in the season. Better to see if the youngsters can do anything against the odds.
That wasn't even the U23 squad, which knows Bielsa's systems from last year.
Looks like he is keeping them back so we do well in the new, higher standard U23 league we have just joined.
I personally believe it is more useful for our U23 to be competing against the best U23 players in the country than a few cup games in a cup competition we can not win. Remember mid-table sides see this as their "chance" and use their first teams (Southampton)

From what I saw of him, it was an error not to start Gotts. Has a touch of class about him. It was also a mistake to instal Kiko as captain. Armband should have been given to Alioski.

It looks increasingly likely that Casilla will be staying with us so maybe the captaincy was to help him regain a bit of confidence for if and when we need to call on him. Plus he is a senior player and must be a good pro if Bielsa trusts him.

I doubt the guy is ever going to be one of my all time favourites but having a senior international goalkeeper pushing you for your shirt could be absolute inspiration for Meslier.
We need to use all our available resources well. If we can sell him and buy better then fine. Til that day, its "Side Before Self"
