OMG - when times get dark, people often resort to humour, so while some apparently crass comments may have been made please don't leap to judgement on those who have posted them.

I think we all realise how serious the implications of Covid-19 can be for individuals affected. Some of us may be in the older with pre-existing heart/ lung etc conditions category for whom it could potentially be fatal, and most will have friends and relatives in a similar position.

I think most will also realise that smaller clubs could face cash-flow problems with this - though the FA may possibly step in to help out, as this would be a very different scenario to problems created by poor management/ governance within the clubs affected.

NBA has been suspended after a Utah Jazz player tested positive. It will be interesting to see what happens next and what they do about the rest of the season.

I concur with Clueless, this British gallows type humour is synonymous with any crisis the Country is facing. And whilst I agree to many it is in bad taste it actually plays an important part in terms of morale, positivity and fight.

I actually thought the governments rationale for NOT stopping major sporting events made some sense.

50,000 people you still (realistically) are at greatest risk from the nearest 50 or so people sitting (as stadiums are now) where as if it’s played behind closed doors there’s every chance people will be squashed together like sardines in pubs up and down the land with ‘potentially’ an increased risk of spreading or contracting the virus.

I have many family members that I am naturally very concerned for. However, I do believe the press and news services have been very irresponsible in their reporting and are actually driving this ridiculous panic buying and increased level of fear. Either way I am certain the championship will be concluded albeit with an extended timeline.

Playing behind closed doors is inevitable now as governments will quite rightly say that the health of the population far outweighs the impact on finances. However, I've no doubt Sunday's game at Cardiff will go ahead, which would leave Leeds with five home games and only three away left to complete.

That would be the best scenario for the EFL and FA in the hope that we don't gain promotion. An empty stadium will be a great leveller and our home advantage could be crucial at this stage in the season.

Conversely it could take pressure off the players as there is a great weight of expectation at ER which not everyone can cope with.

Could do Alf, but I think the team are handling the pressure of expectation at home games very well at the moment and it's more of a bonus playing at home than a hindrance. We're always worth a goal or an assist!

Don’t think games should be played behind closed doors, because as others mention, it will lead to clubs going out of business. The season should either be suspended, to be concluded at a later date, or cancelled, with an “as you are” result. Positions should stand due to the proximity of season end. Very unlikely, and wishful thinking on my part I suppose.
Whatever they do, I foresee a legal poo pile up ahead if fixtures or season is affected!

OMG funny, your more concerned about football clubs going out of business, think about the one who haven’t made it mate you post is no better.

surely if games are cancelled the clubs will also face the same issues as if they are played behind closed doors. they still need to pay overheads, wages and other costs regardless of whether the games go ahead. the only real way is for the football league to compensate them based on their average attendances.
