Responding to posts from Berm on the subject of a central defender. With you on our need. We need better than Cooper. Bartley would do nicely who had a good game yesterday. The player I wanted was Michael Hector whom by the way and don't think many on here realize is now a registered Fulham player able to play in their next fixture so they're going to improve. If ever there was an under the radar transfer this was it. As well as a striker, I'd like to see a central defender come in renowned for defending set pieces. Won't happen though.

hector and bartley would of been a great shouts, sadly i think our own pontus would be been the answer.
just a huge flaw and costs. I thought we outplayed west brom controled the game but they had far more shots on target which is a worry couple that with how we have let in goals from high balls all season and it is causing me to lose sleep. We have done all the hard parts and playing proper football. in my opinon we are prem league in every aspect apart from defending high balls where we are sunday league at best.

Thing is Bermondsey. It’s not a new thing of high balls causing us problems in the box this season. It’s been going on for season after season. A good few years. This year I feel Marcelo wants the mid and wide men to stop the balls in. But that is almost impossible so yes we should have kept Halme I feel. As he is good in the air. We definitely need a tall strong no nonsense defensive player and another forward. I’d break bank for Bowen. As he could easily get the goals to make the gap bigger and then get goals next season in the premier. âš½ï¸âš½ï¸âš½ï¸ðŸ‘Œ.

I agree we struggle with high balls but yet we have the 2nd lowest number of shots on target against us (2 more than least) so our defence isn't doing too bad.
Who would people drop for any new player?
Kyle had a great game for WBA yesterday and agree he would have been a great signing.

agree batty it has been a problem for far too long which is why i was so angry we sold pontus and made ourselves considerablly worse. we are now a joke when it comes to high balls and teams have worked this out and targetting it.
Canada do we have the second number of shots against us? i find that hard to believe because in the games i have seen kiko has either been man of the match or up there with it
so far goals from high balls has cost us agaisnt charlton, swansea, forest, west brom that i can think of but probably a lot more that is 12 points that was an easy fix to win and we could be well clear.
scoring is hard, playing nice football is hard, breaking the lines, keeping the ball overloading is all hard. heading the ball and defending set plays is basic school boy stuff i am not sure if it is tragiclly funny or a crime that we ain't sorted this. i can't think of a team this bad at set plays and everyone knows about it.

2nd lowest number of shots on target according to data I found.
Brentford are 2 less I believe.
Kiko has the 6th best save % I believe (would have to double check) .

Yup 6th best team rating for save %.
Some teams have played multiple keepers so a couple more have one keeper with better individual save % (one only played 1 game so shouldn't count) so he is 7th best.
72% of shots on target saved.

In fact towards the end of the season PJ was playing with his heart and not his head.

I am not having this Pontus nonsense from BW. he went missing in action a lot last season and we conceded load of goals from set plays with him too.

Brentford seem to be doing ok with him though don’t they? fewest goals conceded. Perhaps he would have been a better partner for White than Cooper?

thats my point alf.
not about pontus over white who has been amaaizng it is pontus with white over cooper. our best defence in years was pontus with bartley. cooper is the weak link. decent player yes but he is no white and no pontus.
as for conceeding high balls with pontus yes of course. but if it is a weakness while make it worse by losing your best header of a ball? madness in my book
like us saying we don't score enough goals. answer sell paddy? it makes no sense.
