change of topic but putting the world to rights today

this bury saga is heartbreaking. really feel for the fans, as much as I dig at rads and think he could do better (could do a lot worse as well) i am so grateful when i read stuff like this

I think it is an easy fix morally but maybe not legally

I think the EFL need to claim each club. so each club belongs to the league. they then give them to the owners who can own the clubs. then if they go into administration. rather than fines and points deductions which punsishes the fans and the clubs and not the onwers. i think the EFL should just reposes them like with a car payment or morgage. can't pay we take it away

owners would be reclutant to agree but in theory should as the ony ones who will get punished is bad owners

the clubs would win as bad onwers would be evicted and clubs free to fin a suitable buyer

when i read the bury owner won't sell cos he wants ex amount it makes me sad, i couldn't not pay my mortgae for five years then refuse to be evicited clubs are just as important as any home in my opinion

it is not perfect but think far better than current situation and i hate FFP as it ties clubs hands behind their backs. it also keeps city rich and qpr poor so to speak. i also hate the points decuction i think it is just unfair and punishes fans who fault it never is. and how does taking off points help the clubs in trouble?

I think it would be a better answer than what is in place until something better is thought of.

Yep Bermo. It’s sad to see. We were so close too.

So close mate for all my moaning and groaning there is not a day goes by I ain’t so grateful I got a club to love and moan about.

Berm A buyer from London has been found. Sale agreed by Bury owner subject to ratification from EFL.

Great to hear really pleased to hear that

Still disgusted the owner has a say in the offer, read he wants to be rightly paid for his hard work when the club is I. The Karzie and nearly out of business.

It’s a decent idea to an extent Bermo but I can see issues such as some owners not wanting to have the clubs under those circumstances (like some people don’t want to renta house they want to own it) and also it might take away the consequences for some owners meaning they are even more reckless as they have nothing to lose - they simply lose the club and someone else picks up the bill.

I agree Alf that is the main issue.

It would only affect bad owners though and only be taken off them at the point of the points deduction. The clause to stop recklessness is the bill is left to the owner not the club. the onwer responsible for the debt has to pay it so for example (sorry if figures are wrong but from what I read)

All clubs not in admin carry on as normal they can spend what they want no FFP as clubs lasted for 100 years without it. The onwers have the right to sell club for whatever they want.

If like With Leeds they are run into debt. at the point of points decuction the EFL do not give a points deduction as that harms the club and is not helpful. instead they take the club back but the debt is written off to the onwer so when leeds where in millions of debt they just take it off Risdale and him and the board are left with the bill. leeds are then debt free looking for an onwer. the new owner picks up the bills from point of being an onwer but not the debt so he/ she is free to cut cloth accordingly. so we still might of needed to sell our big players but would of got a better fairer price

it does mean more risk for owners but only if they are poor, so in a way it does the fit and proper peoples test for them as dodgy onwers hve nothing to gain and a lot to lose. good owners have nothing to worry about

I know this is not perfect but I do think it is a lot better than what is in place at the moment with fans paying and potentially having life ruined by poor onwers. football clubs should mean more than that

it also means rich men can come in and change football landscape easier which i think would be more exciting and make some clubs more exciting a prospect to buy.

It’s a really interesting topic and needs these kinds of ideas, good stuff Bermo. The problem stems from us fans wanting clubs to be something more than just a business but unfortunately and even more with the commercialisation of football, that’s what they are.

Us fans too are sometimes part of the problem we want bigger transfers, better and more expensive players and promotion, all cost money and drive imprudent decisions. Furthermore the premiership money is so good that it attracts owners with an eye on the cash. Lots to sort out and a business environment not very conducive to sorting it out. It’s pretty much just a free market where the rich prosper and the poor and weak fail!

I like the idea of locally owned, community run clubs, part of and integrated into the sporting life of the borough. But we are so far away from that now, how could you deliver it. If you do it on a club by club basis, these types of clubs struggle to compete with those flushed with owners money! A great debate.
