The type of players required to play our brand of football are small fast nippy players in the Shacks type mould. The big carthorse type cannot play this brand of football to the standard required. Hence we will have far fewer tall players and will be at a disadvantage when defending set plays. This is the achilles heel . Very similar to Barcelona they played Mascherano at Centre Half regularly, they only have Busquets and Pique who are tall. With Cooper, White and Bamford we can probably do enough defending corners to offset the weakness. The reverse is we can play a brand of football that very few teams at our level can match. Once we are up to full speed we will be very very good. Going forward we can maybe bring in one or two players who can add the height without weakening the teams style of play.

it is great style and can work but we are then putting ourselves with Barcelona which is going to be very hard

I find it like arsenal, wenger tried to do the same and look how the club went backwards, it was ok while he had george graham backline and the big and powerful veria, petite etc but once they went and wenger went ott with little players look how their results went backwards. look how many times arsenal played well but good (by their standards poor results) While i know many would take arsenal plight you have to remember they are operating on a different bracket. its almost like we are budget arsenal, if that is a good or a bad thing is a matter of opinion.

Think you are right with your assessment 1970 but still think you need a couple of tall guys you can call up against the more direct teams. Hoping Eddie can add what's missing up front then i will not worry so much about defending. Seen too many games when we are missing chances and getting caught with a suckerpunch. Sometimes wish Bubs would abandon his philosophy when we are 1-0 up into the last ten minutes and close the game down. Do not think we have many on the bench or in the team capable of doing that though.

Yes Bermo agree, only Arsenal didn't bring in the quality to go with the players Wenger produced. The board would not spend the money.
However over a period of time a team does start to reflect the manager more and more, look back at the Liverpool team under Shanks, M Utd under . and Arsenal under Wenger.
Man City are becoming more and more like Peps Barcelona every week.
We now have a good brand of football, in my opinion the best type you can play and we can keep improving on it.
This is the football that Pep at Barcelona and M City, Pochitino at Spurs and Simeone at Ath Madrid all learnt from Bielsa
This template and blue print with our academy could stand us in good stead for years to come
We are getting closer and closer, even if its not this year. another two or three new players in the window with what we have and we will be knocking harder and harder on that door.

To be fair, I think if it doesn’t work this year we are likely to see significant change at the club, on and off the field.

It’s always important to want to improve performance and results but it’s also really important to enjoy the experience. Football glory is like money, the more you get, the more you want and there is a danger to concentrate on what you haven’t got rather than what you have. In money there will always be someone richer with a bigger house or better car. In football there is getting promoted then staying up, then getting into Europe, then winning the league and the cup and then the champions league and then doing it all at the same time.

Nothing wrong with ambition but make sure it doesn’t crush your ability to appreciate and enjoy what you’ve got! None of us know how many more games we’ll get to watch!

Yes Spanish if it does not work this year we could see change. Bielsa will leave. Rads will either leave or has he created a war chest to spend lots of money in one season to get up within FFP. Two years of coaching Bielsa football style throughout the club and working on that template, spend money on quality to make sure the job is completed.

14 Aug 2019 09:57:32
1970 what happens when bielsa goes at the end of the season which is highly likely?

you make a good point the arsenal board would not spend money, but then we ain't flush either which is kind of my point. Pep is great but he has spent a lot of money and got a lot of talent at the club, can you do pep football on a budget or like arsenal will you fall short?

thats why i always say i prefer a manager who get overachieve and get the best out of his team, like Wilko. We had no right coming 4th and winning league but we over achieved

in recent years cardiff and sheff utd have over achieved and got promotion with a brand of football that for me gets the best results possible while leeds like arsenal fell short of targets

Spanish says it is important to enjoy the football, i disagree. i play football with a blunt who admits they don't play the best football but he really really enjoyed promotion.

ask any blunt would you swap leeds style for promotion i think they would all say no, ask any leeds fan would you swap style for blunts promotion i would imagine they would all say yes

style is great but its a results business and i honestly can't see Belisa getting the results necessary on our budget with the massive blind spots he has and his unwillingness to budge from his footballing ideals.

Myself and Bermo will step forward wex.

14 Aug 2019 13:51:41
yes woody we would be great as joint managers like curbishly and gritt at charlton

day one buy a keeper who can catch

day two buy two defenders over 6 foot who can defend set plays

day three buy a defnsive mid who can defend and move kp further forward

day four sort out breixt

simples.
