On the thread below about Rads, suppose really the questions are, is the club in a better place now than before he came? Answer: Yes . Has he made mistakes? Answer: Yes . What are the mistakes?
1/ Recruiting players who were not up to it
2/ Appointing managers who were not up to it (not including MB)
3/ Failing to strengthen in January. A golden opportunity which has cost him £170 million Premier League money and an additional £200 million on the value of the club. that's £370 million in total. Do not believe I can express properly in words acceptable to this site how big a mistake he made. Everyone could see what was needed. A striker and winger on loan would have done the job. Their wages for 4 months £1.5 million. He really really xxxxxx xx!

Agree0 Disagree0

I love it when people say “ everyone could see what was needed” when obviously everyone couldn’t possibly Orta and Bielsa included! To me his biggest mistake is seemingly not managing Orta effectively or not ensuring he was managed effectively! At some stage the Director of football has to accept and take some responsibility.

Spanish maybe they did see, but thought they could do it on the cheap instead of spending that extra money.

24 May 2019 16:08:44
That was always my concern, it was all to be done on the cheap. Getting so close and throwing it away is definitely a tough one to get over.

24 May 2019 17:30:20
feath its very very tough to get over. The only thought to make it a slight bit easier, is this squad, with the post xmas form, in the prem would really struggle. We need to have the bulk of the squad playing together in the Championship before we go up, because if we recruit loads of players in the first season up, they never bed in together and it usually leads to disaster.

24 May 2019 18:43:45
Come on Spanish I think you're a sensible guy but you're trying to defend the indefensible now. Everyone knows we had to strengthen in Jan we were blessed to cover injured players at times.

24 May 2019 18:58:28
1970 in fairness you'd imagine that squad would change considerably if we were to be promoted. You would imagine at least 30 million to be spent considering we were told there was 20 million last summer.

24 May 2019 18:43:45
Which striker and winger would have done the job on loan then 1970? Be great to know as then Rad can go and loan them for certain promotion next season!

24 May 2019 19:52:56
On that theme lads I must agree the lack of fresh legs in Jan was a mistake but, we have sets of fresh legs already on the payroll and were displaying weekly their competence. So as well as not buying/ upgrading it was Bielsa fault for keeping picking the same names that had let him down previous weeks. Let's hope he has learned his lesson and look internally if some positions are misfiring.

24 May 2019 20:02:39
Corky I think you'll find that some people in our club are paid a hell of a lot of money to do just that.

24 May 2019 20:08:25
And every means at their disposal and all expenses trips and scouts in multiple locations around the world.

24 May 2019 20:18:34
managers not upto it not including MB, did he get us promoted then. in a really weak league?

I am not sure we are in a better place. Under MC we sold our assest for top dollar and spent a lot on bringing players in. now they seem to be going cheap with little coming in in terms of repalcements.

yes we come 3rd and played some nice stuff but we also didn't go up and had some awful stuff

rads better than MC jury is still out for me but if i have to give a verdict I say MC and best manager since wilko not MB but still grayson. he got us up and nearly got us back to prem when his team was sold from under him.

Wex my point is that going out and bringing in a couple of loans in January is by no way a guarantee to success. I realize people are paid money to identify new players but January is a bad time to bring in loans. Firstly they've probably sat on their arse all season and would be way off anywhere near fit for a Bielsa team and secondly who the f**k could we have brought in? Gimme some names anybody who was convinced a couple of loans would of made the difference?!

24 May 2019 23:22:22
“ everybody knows” in the bars and in the clubs, But not the people who mattered because with the exception of James they didn’t and thought that we had enough talent to do the job! It’s very easy to criticise when you don’t have the responsibility of making these decisions yourself. Corky, good post but “ everybody knows” you are wrong!

24 May 2019 23:42:04
Not doing it guaranteed failure corky that's what happened.

25 May 2019 10:36:21
Wex, we had enough quality on the field and bench to beat Wigan and Derby, it’s easy to think that by spending lots of money you solve all the problems, not sure you do. Fulham spent 100 million and still couldn’t stay in the premiership. Not how much money you spend but who you buy and how they gel with what you’ve got and how they perform at key moments of the season. Spend 50 million, don’t get promoted and you and Whiteman will say that we should have spent more!
